Layla froze on the sidewalk, bracing one hand against the building as she cocked her head, eyeing the man up ahead who was speaking, lingering just past the crosswalk.
It… was that Marc? Steven?
It couldn’t be. She knew Marc spoke passing Spanish, but nothing with the speed and fluency that this person was. She couldn’t even be sure it was him—it wouldn’t make any sense, anyhow. Just, the stature—she’d grown so familiar with his body that it was a knee-jerk reaction to recognize him in a crowd. It was how she’d found him in Cairo.
