Chapter Text
Inui Seshu was a freshman in College, his sister a senior. The year had just started and he was majoring in engineering. He liked doing that kind of stuff, it was fun. When he was in middle school he hung around a motorbike shop and picked up some skills. He had a knack for that sort of thing, so it was really no surprise when he’d revealed he wanted to study for it.
“But- sweetheart, are you sure? Engineering? Wouldn’t you like to go into health, like your sister? Akane, what do you think?” His mother had asked.
“I think Inui should do what he loves, Mother. Personally, I think it’s really cool.”
He’d given his sister the biggest smile. Akane was pretty cool. She’d always been supportive of him, even when he came out at gay. He wore heels even back in elementary, which of course got a lot of negative attention. It didn’t matter much to him, they were comfortable.
In the end, his mother gave in. She stopped pressuring the matter, which made Inui really happy. So here he was, walking to his college dorm room with a bunch of boxes, trying to hide his shit-eating grin.
He opened his door and stepped inside. It looked like his roommate was already settled. There were a bunch of dishes in the sink and the shower was running. He walked to the hallway and checked the rooms. One had a bunch of boxes and the other was empty.
Inui settled his things down in the empty room and started to unpack. He was barely through the second box when the sound of the shower stopped. The bathroom door opened and the sound of footsteps got louder as his roommate approached.
His bedroom door creaked open and a head popped in. “Yo! I see you’re finally here.”
Inui turned to look at the guy. “I am.”
“I’m Kokonoi Hajime. Who’re you?”
“Inui Seishu.” He replied.
“Inupi. Cool name. I’m gonna change and head out. See ya later!”
Inui was startled by the familiarity Kokonoi had with him, despite just meeting. He brushed it off easily and resumed his unpacking. It wouldn’t take long. He’d just bought clothes and knick-knacks from his old room.
He settled his shirts on hangers and placed them in the closet. He folded his pants into neat little rectangles and set it inside his dresser drawers. Of course he’d put undergarments and socks in a drawer too. Placed some books on a bookshelf and hung up some photographs.
He had also brought a nintendo switch with him, and what’s the harm of playing some mario kart?
He won. Of course.
“Heyo, Inupi! Whatcha’ playin? Ooh, Mario Kart? Love that game, but it sure as hell doesn’t beat Majora’s Mask or Ocarina of Time.” Kokonoi was back and intruded.
Somehow, Inui didn’t seem to mind.
“Hm, I prefer Breath of The Wild.”
Kokonoi looked outraged, it pulled a corner of Inui’s mouth into a smirk.
“What??” He exclaimed, baffled. “Seriously, I don’t understand why that game has so much hype- hold on.” he rushed out of Inui’s room and came back with a switch of his own in record time.
“It’s just got good graphics, that’s all.” Kokonoi huffed.
Inui gave a small laugh. “Sure. Wanna add me on nintendo?”
Kokonoi smiled. “Yep!”
They spent three hours playing Mario kart. Inui, of course, won the majority of the rounds.
“That’s literally not even fair,” Kokonoi pouted, “How long have you been playing Nintendo anyway?”
“Since I was like five,” Inui replied, mocking Kokonoi’s tone.
“Oh whatever.” His cheeks pinkened, seemingly out of embarrassment.
“Wanna play smash bros?”
“Kinky.”
“Shut up. Wanna play or not?”
“I’ll play, I’ll play. Loser has to buy dinner.”
“Fine.”
Kokonoi chose Link.
Inui chose Kirby.
It was a grueling battle, Kokonoi almost fell off the map multiple times, but in the end, it was Inui Seishu that lost.
“HA! You hafta buy food!”
“Buying food is stupid. I’ll cook.”
“Eh?”
Inui stood and walked to the kitchen. There was thawed chicken in the fridge alone with some veggies. Mostly carrots, celery and skinned potatoes.
He checked the cabinets for a curry packet. Behind the various cans of tuna (“How much tuna do you need?” “It was a variety pack for a good price!”) was a box of packets.
He started the curry.
“Kokonoi can you-”
“Call me Koko.”
“Huh?”
“Koko. It’s a nickname.”
Inui raised a brow. “Koko,” he started again, “Could you chop these up?” He pushed the vegetables towards him.
“Sure!” He chirped, grabbing a knife.
Inui brought out his phone and opened Spotify. He put on his cooking playlist labeled, “I cook, and I clean, lemme tell you how I got this ring” which consisted of so so many explicit songs.
Money Trees played first.
Koko seemed to know the song, as he was humming along with it. They prepared the food and it was done pretty quickly, for curry anyway.
He served some rice onto a plate, covered it in the curry, and set it down at the table.
“Try.” He said simply, gesturing to the plate.
Koko took a bite and practically melted into the chair. “Oh god, that’s good! How the hell can you cook so well??”
“Practice.” He sighed contently, “Glad you enjoy it.”
Inui made a plate of his own and sat opposite of Koko. They chattered and ate and all of a sudden this dormitory felt a little like home.
---
“Yo! Inupi!” Koko called one day as Inui sat on the couch watching Sailor Moon (a classic, you can fight Inui on this one).
“Hm?” Inui called back, not looking away from the screen.
“Uh, I found heels in your room. Are they your girlfriends?”
Inui paused the T.V. this time. “N-No?”
“No?” Koko popped his head out from behind the corner, Inui’s favorite black stilettos in hand. “Whose are they? Your sisters?”
“They’re… mine?”
“Oh.” Koko stilled.
“I’ll put them somewhere else if they make you uncomfortable or something. I just like wearing them.”
“Are you…” He lifted up his other hand and let it go slack in the air. Inui guessed that Kokonoi was trying to ask if he was gay or not.
“Yeah. I’m into guys.”
“Oh!” Koko’s face brightened. “Ugh, finally I can have someone to talk to about guys because sometimes they kinda really just suck and my family is really heterosexual so it’s really hard.”
Inui did not have the urge to make a dick joke.
“Are you gay?”
“Huh? No, I’m bi.”
“Ah, I see.”
“I’ll put your heels back, sorry I grabbed them. They’re just cool.”
Inui felt a little more comfortable around Koko. “Yeah, they are.”
