Drip, Drip, Drip
Eight's breath hitches in her throat, frozen in place, all she can do is listen to the dripping coming from behind her. The echoing of the elevator to Inkopolis's surface made everything much louder than it should be. Eight's only snapped out of her paralyzing fear when she hears pearl call from her CQ-80
"Eight..? Do you hear that..?"
Eight finally whips her head around and is met with Agent Three, the Inkling menace, staring down at her. Her eyes are cold, empty, and almost lifeless. The bright blue goo on her head drips carefully onto the platform she stands on. Agent Three grips her Hero shot with more force than necessary, Eight is sure it'll snap under her pressure. All Agent Three does is stare, for what feels like hours. Their silent staring contest is broken after Agent Three mutters something under her breath, and charges at Eight without giving her a second to think.
"EIGHT!" is the only thing that can be heard as Agent Three comes crashing down on Eight, CQ-80 being ripped right from her hands and onto the cold floor. Eight's head is met with the floor as well, Agent Three holds her Hero shot directly to Eight's forehead. Bright, wide blue eyes met with terrified yellow ones. Agent Three pulls the trigger and-
SPLAT!
Eight jolts awake, so hard she's sure the bed moved along with her. Naturally, Three is awoken as well. Eight's breathing is fast and short, Three immediately pulls her girlfriend into a hug, looking away, she always knows what Eight's nightmares are about. She always feels guilty about it. Eight starts to break into a quiet sob underneath the crook of Three's neck, Only then does Three bring her free hand up to Eight's back to gently draw circles into it. "I'm sorry.." Three manages to mutter.
A few more minutes pass of the two cephalopods sitting like that before Eight finally pulls away. Three's shirt is soaked, she doesn't care. Eight is silent, Three feels the panic rising in her throat as she can never really figure out what to say when Eight has her nightmares. Another tense moment passes by before Three sighs and takes her girlfriend's hands in hers.
"I'm so.. sorry, Eight. You know I'd never hurt you right?" Three looks into Eights eyes, seeing the tears forming once again. "You're safe now.. I promise."
Three's heart aches, She hates working for the Splatoon. It hurt Eight, it hurt innocent lives, it hurt her.
"I don't get it.." Eight mutters out, Three cocks her head slightly to the side. "Everyone has just..! Forgotten about the Metro. They go on with their lives like it never happened! So why can't I do the same..?"
Three's eyes widen slightly, she pulls Eight in for another hug. "I don't know.. I know how you feel. We're gonna get through it okay? We're gonna recover together, it's... just gonna take time." Three coos. "It's so unfair. You shouldn't've had to go through all of that.. No one should." Eight nods slightly at her words. "Thank you, Angel." Is all she can muster in response. The adrenaline in Eight is finally wearing off and she can feel her eyelids grow heavy again and her muscles loosen.
Three takes notice and slowly lies back down, and drags Eight with her. She holds the shaken up octoling until she falls back asleep. Feeling the steady breathing of her girlfriend, Three kisses her gently on the head before attempting to go back to sleep.
