Work Text:

Chat Noir loved the Dupain-Cheng's apartment. It was so brightly colored, warm, and it always smelled like baked goods. Not to mention that he was always greeted with happy and open arms. So it was no surprise that he spent nearly all of his free time there, hanging out with his favorite person and her parents.

Today he found himself in their living room, head in Marinette's lap and her scratching behind his ear.

He loved when she scratched behind his ear.

"Now Chat, are you sure you want to be there tonight?"

Chat had pretty much zoned out so her question was met with a hum followed by his purr resuming.

"Chat? Are you listening?"

"Yeah, yeah." He murmured.

Knowing that it was the only way he'd actually listen, she sighed and moved her hand off his head. He whined at the loss before grabbing her hand and putting it back on his head.

Marinette had to laugh. "You're such a cat."

"That's why you love me. I'm house trained, I'm purrty adorable, and you can have all the cuddles you want."

"Right now I want you to answer my question."

"Okay." He said and sat up to face her, perched on his feet and hands. "What did you say, Purrincess?"

"Are you sure you want to come tonight? You know it could be dangerous."

Chat grinned. "Of course! I always tag along! And it's never dangerous. The pack loves me!"

"They do but you know we're not always conscious of our actions when we're transformed and I would hate for you to get hurt."

Leaning forward, he laid his head on her shoulder and nuzzled her neck. "Don't worry, Mari. I haven't gotten hurt before and I usually run with you guys all night!"

Marinette nodded. "True."

Still, she seemed unsure so Chat lifted himself off her so that he could see her face. It really touched him that she was so worried about his safety, even amongst people who she'd known her whole life. "Mari, if you're really worried, we can ask your dad. He is the alpha."

"Okay."

"Tom," Chat called out, knowing that it would upset the older man if he called him Mr. Dupain one more time.

'Family doesn't stand on formality, son.'

"Yes Chat?" Tom answered from the kitchen.

"Is it okay if I come tonight? Mari is worried."

Tom's boisterous laugh could be heard throughout the whole building. "Of course! You're part of the pack. People would worry if you weren't there."

Chat raised his eyebrows. "See?"

Marinette chewed on her lip for a moment before the tension drained from her body. "Fine then." Chat leapt off the couch and cheered and she couldn't stop the smile from spreading across her face. "Y'know, I didn't know that cats were pack animals."

Chat shrugged and threw himself back on her lap, giving an appreciative purr when she started to pet his hair. "Most cats aren't, but I've always been more of a wolf's cat than a cat's cat."

Marinette rolled her eyes. "You know wolves are more closely related to dogs than cats, right?"

He shrugged and wrapped his arms around her waist, snuggling closer. "I know, but I said what I said."

She shook her head but the smile on her face spoke volumes of her adoration. "Well, little wolf cat, it's time for us to go get ready for tonight's run."

"Purrfect, I could use some exercise."

Later that night, as the full moon shone high above the city of Paris, howls filled the air as the wolves roamed the forest outside the city.

One wolf in particular had decided not to go for a run, choosing to bathe in the moon's light instead. Chat, of course, had chosen to stay with her. Together, they watched the night pass as Chat's purr of contentment was mirrored by Marinette's deeper purr-like growl that vibrated in her chest.

At some point, they had fallen asleep and Chat woke to find them circled by the rest of the pack. The larger beasts surrounded them and were sleeping as well, creating a huge cuddle pile of warmth and affection.

Marinette thought this would be dangerous for him? Chat had to swallow his chuckle.

Even then, his heart filled with happiness. Having the pack together and sleeping like this was a very rare occurrence- wolves, even werewolves, were nocturnal so they were usually very active during the night, especially the night of the full moon- and he felt so lucky to be able experience this and to be so accepted by them that he was seen as one of their own.

Cuddling back up to Marinette, Chat nuzzled her side before settling down. Her bigger body wrapped around his and he felt protected and loved.

"You're my favorite wolf." He muttered and his cheeks reddened when he felt her tongue drag across the back of his head. Even without her being able to speak, he knew what that mean.

"You're my favorite cat."

And, as he joined the rest of the pack in their nap, Chat thought there was nothing better than being his wolf's cat.
