Chat Noir wasn't gonna lie. He was nervous. Insanely nervous.
He'd been dating the love of his life, Marinette, for a year now and it was finally time to meet her father, the man she loved more than just about anyone.
Chat had already met her mother when she had visited a few months ago and it had gone nicely. It had been weird being in the presence of an angel, especially since he was only a mere human underneath his black suit, but Sabine had been so down to Earth and friendly that Chat was relaxed during their dinner.
The same could not be said now.
"C'mon Chat! There's no need to be nervous!" Marinette laughed as she pulled him out of the car and towards the line of trees that marked the entrance to the woods. "It's just my papa."
"Right. Your papa. Just the papa I know next to nothing about other than he was able to seduce and marry an angel and now lives in... the middle of the woods? I totally shouldn't be worried." His tail flickered from side to side- a sure sign of his nerves- and he tried not to fiddle with the ring of his miraculous.
Pausing, Marinette turned and put her hands around his neck. "Kitty, you really have nothing to worry about. I haven't told you much about him because I knew you would freak out and I want you as calm as possible. Papa is seen as a very... intimidating man thanks to his reputation and I didn't want you to be swayed by hearsay. Honestly, he's a big teddy bear and he already likes you."
"He... does?"
Marinette smiled and gave him a kiss full of love. "Of course. He knows that you make me happy and that I love you."
Chat felt his lips stretch into a smile. "I love you, too. And okay. I think I can do this."
"Good." She grabbed his hand again and led him into the woods.
The further in they went, the denser the trees got and Chat worried a little about if they'd be able to find their way out. After about fifteen minutes of walking, the trees opened up to a clearing. Chat noted that the trees formed a nearly perfect circle around them and there was only a stump in the center of the open space. Looking down, he also noted that there were weird drawings covering the ground of the clearing. After a second, he felt a shiver run down his spine as Marinette started to chant in a language he didn't understand and magic flared around them.
The drawings.
The magic.
The chanting.
Was she summoning something?
No!
She was summoning someone.
No.
Marinette's papa?
Was he...
Suddenly the ground shook and the tree stump sunk into the earth as what looked to be a portal opened up beneath it. As it widened, Chat stopped breathing as a pair of dark red eyes floated from inside. There was no mistaking the presence he felt surround and envelope them.
Oh shit.
He was...!
Marinette made a happy sound at the sight and he saw nothing but love written across her face. When he stopped and took the rest of her in as the magic shimmered around them, he could see her eyes shifting from their normal blue to a bright red, similar to the ones of the entity emerging from the earth. He also noticed that her wings- which he'd only seen twice: first when she revealed to him that she wasn't human when they had gotten serious and second when he met her mother- had sprung from her back. Instead of the white fluffy wings he'd seen before that matched Sabine's, her wings were thin and slick, similar in appearance to a bat's, and matched the humongous ones that sat upon her father's back.
Chat wondered why they looked different but decided to ask at a later time, when he wasn't freaking out on the inside.
Sensing his stress, Marinette took his hand again and kissed his knuckles. "Chat, it's okay." Smiling as the creature cleared the portal, she pulled him forward until they were right in front of it- him. "Papa, I would like you to meet Chat Noir, my boyfriend. Chat, I would like you to meet my papa."
Her father smiled and extended his hand. "Most people call me 'The Devil' or 'Lucifer', but you can just call me Tom. It's nice to finally meet the mortal who makes my little angel so happy."
And then Chat literally shook hands with the devil.
