A team of geniuses bonded in an attempt to save the dying future. Successfully, they managed to invent time machines. They were able to identify which particular moments in the past needed to be stopped and corrected to save the future.
These geniuses, who now called themselves the Time Council, sent trained time agents to eliminate those whose decisions would negatively affect the future. It doesn't matter if you're the most powerful person in the world or if you're an overworked employee on his third cup of coffee. If your decision affects the future in the worst way possible, then the time agents will come for you.
