Work Text:
“What a beautiful sunset…” Kaito sips his sake with a fond look towards the horizon. “Hm.. I wonder if he’ll answer my call now?”
A bump on his hand makes Kaito smile at his loyal friend and he gently pats the crane’s head. The crane seems to huff at him and unfurls its left wing to pat the god as if to say ‘do it already’. Kaito laughs at the urging and stands up.
With the sun almost fully set, he’s almost sure that the god's messenger he wants to call will answer.
And so, he calls for him.
White smoke fills the garden for a short moment before it dissipates. Black wings unfurl first before a more humanoid body gently falls from the sky. Kaito instinctively raises his hand to caress the summoned deity’s cheek.
A moment passes before the tengu kneels in front of the god that summoned him. “Fukurokuju-sama… You have called for me…?”
“You can drop the formalities, Shinichi,” Kaito grins, happy to see the divine messenger. He walks back to the engawa and sits down beside the bottle of wine and snacks. “Amaterasu-sama doesn’t need you until tomorrow, right?”
The tengu huffs, looking at the god in exasperation. “You called me here just to hang out, again?” Shinichi grumbles, but does stand up and walks over to the engawa to sit beside Kaito.
“Of course! I can only ever get you for a few hours so I have to make use of them frequently.”
“You’re lucky I wasn’t busy.”
Kaito laughs. “I’m one of the seven lucky gods for a reason, Shinichi.”
Shinichi gives the god a wry smile and does indulge in the sake offered to him. “I suppose a break is fine for now.”
