Work Text:
Valentine’s day. A Holiday for lovers to have fun and celebrate their love for each other. The only problem is, Atsushi doesn’t have a Valentine.
He got bored of waiting around in the agency with no new missions to go on, so he decided to go out for a bit and get some fresh air.
He sighed, and walked along the sidewalk of Yokohama. “I wish I had a Valentine.” He mumbled to himself, not paying attention where he was going, and looking at the ground. Unexpectedly, he bumped into a certain someone. “Oh, sorry, i wasn’t looking where i was goi-“ He started to say, until he looked up and realized it was the one and only, Akutagawa. “ng..” He finished his sentence. “Oh, Akutagawa, what are you doing here?” Atsushi says with a confused expression on his face.
“What, am I not allowed to walk along the sidewalk now, were-tiger?” There he goes again, calling Atsushi anything other but his name..
“That’s not what I meant..” He says, looking the other way, scratching the back of his head. “Anyways, where are you going?” Akutagawa rolled his eyes.
“And why should I tell you? It’s none of your business, were-tiger.” He sighed. ‘I shouldn’t have asked..’ He thought to himself.
“Where are you going?” Akutagawa asks.
“None of your business, Akutagawa.” Atsushi says, mimicking Akutagawa.
Akutagawa crosses his arms. “So childish..” He mumbles to himself. “I’m just going to get a few things from the store so I can go on a picnic with Higuchi. I’ll be on my way now.” Akutagawa says, getting ready to leave, but Atsushi stops him, tugging onto his sleeve.
“Wait,” Atsushi starts. “Can I come with? I have nothing to do and I’m bored.” Akutagawa sighs.
“That’s your problem, were-tiger.”
And after a long time of begging, Akutagawa finally lets him come along. After going to the store and getting things for the picnic, they arrive at the picnic spot and see Higuchi waiting. They all have fun, and before they know it, time passes. Akutagawa and Atsushi were the only ones awake now, since Higuchi fell asleep considering it’s late now.
”Hey, Akutagawa, aren’t the stars beautiful?” Atsushi says, while smiling at the sky, the light of the stars glistening in his eyes.
“What kind of cheesy crap is that?” Akutagawa says, cringing at the weretiger’s ‘romantic’ statement.
“I’m just saying,” He hugs his knees to his chest. “Today was fun. I enjoyed it.” Atsushi says, still smiling, genuinely happy about the time they all spent together.
“Yeah, it was..I guess you could say it was fun. I too, enjoyed myself, or whatever.” Akutagawa says while looking away, kind of flustered. Atsushi notices this, and teases him.
“Aww, is the big, bad, Akutagawa flustered??” He giggles.
“Of course not!!” Akutagawa replies back, glaring at him with an ‘unpleasant’ look on his face.
“Oh? Really now?” Atsushi scoots closer to him. “Then why is your face so red?” Atsushi smirks. Akutagawa looks away, getting even more flustered than before.
“My face isn’t red!!” He says, it being an obvious lie.
“Then why are you looking away??” Atsushi places his hands on Akutagawa’s face, and forces him to look at him. His face flushes bright red.
“Ah, what are you doing?” Akutagawa says. “Let go of me, Atsu- I mean, weretiger.” Atsushi smirked at the fact Akutagawa had almost said his name.
“Nope!” Akutagawa began struggling to get Atsushi’s hands off his face, and that made him lose his balance and fall on his back, with Atsushi falling on top of him.
“Aghh, Get off of me. You’re heavy.” Atsushi shook his head, and Akutagawa sighed. Soon enough, they both fell asleep, and there they lay, under the bright moonlight. The next day, Atsushi awoke to Akutagawa and Higuchi gone.
“Huh.” It was morning now, and he hurried back to the agency. The others were probably wondering where he was.
“There you are Atsushi, we were wondering where you were!” Dazai says to Atsushi.
“Ah, sorry. I was out getting some fresh air, and I guess I sorta passed out somewhere.” Atsushi rubs the back of his head, hoping Dazai would believe his lie as he obviously couldn’t tell him he was hanging out with Akutagawa, and especially on Valentine’s Day.
“I see, well, it seems someone left these flowers for you, not sure who though, but I think you may have a secret admirer, hehe.” Dazai says in his usual playful tone.
“Oh, I see, although it’s probably not a secret admirer.” Atsushi says, laughing a bit. He picks up the flowers and takes it to his room. He examines it, and a slip of folded up paper falls out of it. “Huh, what’s this?” He says to himself as he unfolds the paper. It appears to have some writing on it. He reads it to himself in his mind.
”Dear weretiger,”
”I had a great time at the picnic with you and Higuchi, and I just wanted to say thank you. Truthfully, I wish we could’ve spent more time together, but it’s alright. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I hope we can spend more time together again soon.”
-Akutagawa.
Atsushi’s face grew red as he read the note. ‘Well, I’m just glad he enjoyed himself..That’s all I really wished for.’ Atsushi thought, or maybe he had wished for more to happen as well? Who knows.
All he knew was that there’d be more enjoyable times with Akutagawa, and that he couldn’t wait to experience them all.
