Work Text:

"you're pregnant?"

"I'm pregnant."

"you're pregnant."

Soonyoung crosses his arm and repeats, "yes."

How many times does he have to confirm his dumbass boyfriend that he does, in fact, indeed, undoubtedly, have their baby in his tumtum?

As much as he wants to tell Jeonghan under the pretty lit candle somewhere disgustingly romantic, fate likes to make their love life a comedy. Their attempt to have kids for a whole year has resulted in nothing but dying limbs. Then, this afternoon, a couple of months after giving up, Soonyoung fainted in the office.

His self-proclaimed psychic co-worker went out to get him a pregnancy test during the time he passed out so that when he woke up, he could try proving the two-lines theory.

And tada, two lines.

That alone almost made Soonyoung faint again.

The office called Jeonghan to pick his boyfriend up, without disclosing the couple's breaking news.

As Soonyoung planned on how to reveal this to Jeonghan, everything went at full speed like in the Flash movie. He didn't even remember the details. All that was vivid was the scene where Jeonghan helped him get in the car because his head was still dizzy, and the object supposedly well-hidden graciously fell from the bag to the passenger's seat.

Jeonghan might have eyes made out of shit, but he had got LASIK a couple of months before, and love fortified his sight.

"What.. is that?"

Soonyoung looked, said 'let's talk,' and got in the passenger's seat. A few minutes later, he announced that they were becoming parents.

Fifteen minutes later, they got stuck in the traffic.

And here they are

"you're pregnant?"

"Yes, I'm pregnant."

has been playing in the car instead of a radio.

After an eternity of Jeonghan making sure he does not mishear the word, is not having a delusion, and not dreaming, it seems like he takes in the truth and falls quiet,

which is weird.

For a split minute, Soonyoung is confused...and scared.

The reaction Soonyoung had predicted of Jeonghan was an unbearable exaggeration where he made alien noises, often heard when he gets excited. Instead, he becomes amazingly silent.

The younger's brain starts acting up, making crazy assumptions. Has his husband changed his mind about having a kid?

It must be the hormones, Soonyoung thinks; they have been waiting for a child since last year.

Traffic still prolongs the scene. The cloud's movement outside the window leads Soonyoung's mind away from the car, painfully slow, much like waiting for his husband to show visible delight. Soonyoung bites the inside of his lips, waiting for a yippy or a jingle, anything.

He hears a sob.

"Holy fuck, I'm going to be a father," The older mutters. "Soonyoung,  we  are going to be fathers."

( Jeonghan has been crying, and it has just gotten audible )

Soonyoung has never thanked traffic jams ever in his life. He leans in and gives his fellow father a quick kiss on the cheek because if he doesn't do it right now, he will feel gloomy, and it's not good for the baby.

"It's unofficial, though... you know, sometimes, this stuff lies", he says, waving the pregnancy test, which almost makes him cry too because he can still see the two lines, vivid.

"Do you want to go to the hospital?"

Good question. Does he want to?

What does it mean to have an official confirmation?

Pictures flash through him.

The first time meeting this man, first time realizing he's probably got a crush, first time hesitating if he's in love (already??), first time saying yes with so much confidence.

Spending a month tasting every online recipe for homemade pancakes, Soonyoung let Jeonghan murder his tastebuds the same way the older let him sabotage their wardrobe to support his fabric painter awakening.

Nowadays, Jeonghan can cook breakfast for Soonyoung on occasional hectic mornings, although Soonyoung's only choice is pancakes with seasonal fruit topping. They also get handmade couple tees, and Jeonghan doesn't give two shits whether the tiger drawings really look identical or if they are even tigers at all.

A day, a month, a year, and a suffocating space in his bed at times

but more often an overwhelmingly filled up heart, so full it might explode.

So full he is surprised there is a space left for another heartbeat. But there is.

More than enough space for another heart to beat in his body.

What does raising a child with the man sitting next to him mean? What does it mean now if that won't happen?

"Would you be disappointed if it's a false alarm?"

"We're so complete already."

"I know, but we've been wanting this."

"Would you be disappointed?"

"I'd be lying if I said no... but we can cry at home, right?"

"We can have comfort food, and you can have my shoulders."

"And I mean, we can always try some more."

Jeonghan teasingly replies, "yeah?"

Like kids, Soonyoung slaps his boyfriend's shoulder.

For minutes he felt nineteen.

They forgot how to be young love because as much as they are not that old, they are not that young.

Jeonghan may feel that their love stays at the beginning of their twenties, but the world sure revolves without considering his idea of love. Instead of colorful lightning that jiggles his entire body when they kiss, now it's just a simple, easily forgotten warmth that lazily spreads when they hug. He doesn't even always recognize it.

And now, a baby.

Can anybody believe it? Their baby.

He was like a teenager taking Soonyoung on their first date, dumb, wouldn't hold Soonyoung's hands because he didn't want the other to touch his sweat ever. Soonyoung thought maybe he was just not that into him.

They went to another movie; the movie sucked, but Jeonghan looked like heaven, sweat-free, and finally held his date's hand.

Old fashioned love so ever new then. Holding hands, late-night calls, a prom kiss--better yet--prom kisses.

Soonyoung eyes the other

Jeonghan, being a mind-reading boyfriend, offers one of his hands.

Years ago, soonyoung would have held it.

"Drive with two hands."

"... Sorry"

"Let's hold hands when it's safe."

"Right"

God, he's going to hold their child's hands, too.
