Goshiki’s Bad Day

Summary:

“I’m fine Rem,” Goshiki said and he swore the dog threw him a dirty look, “Don’t give me that look.” This of course was a lie, he knew he wasn’t even trying to convince the dog with those words, they were more for him at this point. “It’s just today then it's the weekend, no more school,” Goshiki stated, standing and picking up Remy’s pull strap.

Or

Goshiki wakes up feeling horrible and ends up having a panic attack in front of his team.

Notes:

!TW! Panic Attacks

I know I said that I would make ShiraHaba platonic story but I can’t think of anything and found a Service dog au for a different fandom. So this was made. If you have any ideas for this series, yes this will be a series, or any other feel free to leave them in the comments. Also if I got anything in the story wrong please leave them in the comments so I will know for my next story. Thank you and have a nice day/night!

Work Text:

Remy nuged Goshiki’s legs as he groaned, tired from the long night of repeatedly waking up. Goshiki half expected the sun to be up this time but, like many times before, it was dark outside. He could hear Yushio’s soft snores from behind him, furthering the point that it was still late.

Goshiki sighed and sat up, seeing Remy draped across his legs, looking at him worryingly. He sighed and pet Remy’s head before moving him off. He jumped off his bed, grabbing some clothes, and quietly made his way over to the showers, Remy hot on his heels. He entered the bathroom as Remy kept walking, going to get his meds.

By the time Goshiki was out of the shower and dressed, a few others were up, giving him a tired greeting and patting Remy on the head as they walked by. He took his pills and walked up to his room, figuring Yushio was up by now. He pulled Remy’s vest out of the closet, the dog bounding towards him. After they were both ready Goshiki sat down on his bed and sighed, Remy laying his head on the open lap.

The dog still looked at him werilly but let Goshiki buckle it to the vest anyway. They both made their way down the stairs, most of the team waiting by the door, apart from Shirabu and Semi-san. Tendou noticed him and waved him over, “There almost here Goshiki-kun!” He said and leaned down to pet Remy. They both waited for the signal from Goshiki before Remy pressed his head into Tendou’s hand. He gave them the okay, letting go of the dogs lead so Tendou can pet him. Semi and Shirabu walked over while this was happening and the team got ready to head off.

After Tendou was done petting the dog and had run off to follow Ushijima, Goshiki picked up the handle. Most of the team walked by him and he stood there staring to grip the lead a bit tighter, his breathing getting heavier, and his vision starting to fade slightly. Remy noticed immediately and pushed his paws on Goshiki’s knees. Goshiki shook his head, seeming to come out of whatever thoughts he was in. “I’m fine,” Goshiki said and started to walk with Remy at his side, “It’s gonna be fine.”

—----------------------

It’s not fine, it was very not fine. As soon as the team made their way into the gym he knew, even if he didn’t before, why he was so freaked out. ‘ This is why, ’ Goshiki thought as he looked around at all of the booths set out everywhere. Remy and Shirabu, who was now somehow next to him, seemed to notice his slight panic. The dog pushed his body against him. “Are you sure you're up to do this?” Shirabu asked, making space around the boy so as to not overwhelm him. Goshiki nodded his head trying to find his words, “Y-yeah, I… I can do this.”

The event wasn’t a big deal to most people, it was just an event to get to know more about clubs to see if any new members wanted to join before Summer. The keyword of that sentence was most people. It was about 20 minutes into the event and Goshiki had already had 2 or more panic attack scares, leading Shirabu to sit next to him to watch over Goshiki with Remy.

After the third, Shirabu stood up. He held out his hand to Goshiki and spoke, “Come on, I’ll help-“ There was a scream from a booth next to them as a ball came and hit the top of their stand. It started to fall and Semi was barely able to come from where he was to catch it before it fell on the three of them.

This is what broke the walls around Goshiki. He had stood up from the scare and was now on the floor, heaving for air as Remy raced up to him. This caught the attention of many of the kids around them and they raced over, starting to crowd around Goshiki, and not helping the situation in any way. He started to tremble more and Remy pushed his head into Shirabu’s leg before starting to lick Goshiki’s hand to distract him from the attack.

Ushijima and Shirabu, with the help from Remy, were the first to snap out of their shocked states. Even though it was their first time seeing Goshiki like this, Shirabu had known a lot about panic attacks. Shirabu turned to Ushijima, already knowing he was out of the shocked state and yelled over the sound of everyone, “Get them all away from Goshiki and tell them to shut up!” Ushijima nodded and Tendou had also raced over by that point, helping Ushijima with the crowd situation.

Shirabu pushed his way through the crowd, having gotten thrown back in the panic of it all. He sat next to Goshiki, Remy on the other side, and put his hand on Goshiki’s arm. “Hey,” he asked, “Can you hear me, Goshiki?” Goshiki turned his head towards him slightly, still breathing heavily, “Y-yeah.” “Can you copy my breathing?” Shirabu asked, simulating it for Goshiki. Goshiki took a breath in and out, although still shaky, and nodded. “Good,” Shirabu started, as he put Goshiki’s hand over his chest, “Copy me until you feel like you can breathe by yourself okay?”

They did the breathing exercise for a bit while the captains and the rest of the team were trying to handle the situation. Goshiki was eventually able to breath by himself and sat up, though he looked exhausted. “Do you think you’ll be able to walk?” Shirabu asked, Goshiki shook his head as he pet Remy, “Ok.” Shirabu turned his attention to Yushio who was near the back of the team, “Yushio, could you help me get Goshiki to the nurse?” He nodded and helped him sling one of Goshiki’s arms over his shoulder, while he took the other.

—----------------------

Goshiki awoke to being on a nurse office bed, he sat up to see Remy on his legs. He turned to his side and saw his dads talking to the nurse, “Dad? Papa?” He asked, and both of them turned to look at him, “Hey Tsumu, you okay?” His dad asked and he nodded. “What happened?” Goshiki asked as he pet Remy on the head. His Papa started to speak, “You had a panic attack and your friend Shirabu helped you.” Goshiki nodded, “Are we going home now?” His Dad nodded, “Shirabu said he was going to get your bag.” Just as he said that, Shirabu came through the door with his backpack and phone.

Shirabu handed him his phone and his bag. He fiddled with his hands before speaking, “You okay now?” Goshiki smiled and bit and nodded, “Yeah, thanks Shirabu-san.” Shirabu nodded and scratched Remy behind the ear before saying bye. They all hopped into the car as Goshiki fell asleep.

—----------------------

Goshiki was good the rest of the weekend, getting texts from the team group chat was not helping at all. Nu-uh. (They really were but he couldn’t bring himself to admit it) Goshiki had told the others about what had happened leading to a few ‘oof’s and a joke from Fukunaga that he had saved for a situation like this. Goshiki was feeling much better when he showed up Sunday night for the team's regularly scheduled movie night and had a lot of fun. He was happy that nothing had changed between him and the team because of that, and was able to fall asleep on the couch, of course wrapped up in the team’s cuddle pile, content and happy.
