A car pulls into a parking space at a beach. Goshiki clenches Remy’s leash tighter, palms starting to get sweaty as he looks out the window. Goshiki’s dad puts the car into park and looks at him, “You don’t have to go, you know that right?” “I know,” he replies, “I’ve just talked to them for so long that I want to make a good first impression, this is the first time we are meeting up after all.”
Remy lays his head on his lap and licks his hand. He pets the dog as another car pulls up next to them. Someone hops out of the car, the person being Kyoutani if the buzz cut and scowl were anything to go by. Goshiki lets out a breath and pushes open the door. He hits the floor and turns around to help Remy out of the truck.
Goshiki then turns around to face Kyoutani. He looks Goshiki up and down before speaking, “Nice to see you Goshiki.” Kyoutani lets out a slight smile. The scowl quickly comes back after and he turns around to help his German Shepherd out of the car. The dog quickly comes out after and looks at Goshiki, almost giving the dog equivalent of a scowl. ‘ You can tell it’s Kyoutani’s dog ’ Goshiki thinks to himself.
“So this must be Sāji.” Goshiki fidgets with his hands looking at the dog. “You can pet him if you want,” Kyoutani says and gives a brief whistle, most likely to tell the dog it’s off duty for now. Sāji trots over and Goshiki lets him sniff him. After getting the approving whistle from Kyoutani he pushes his head into Goshiki’s hand.
Goshiki pets Sāji as Kyoutani walks over next to Remy, “And this is Remy?” Goshiki smiles and gives a nod to Remy, looking and waiting for permission to say hi, “Yep.” Remy immediately licks Kyoutani’s outstretched hand as he begins to pet him.
After they are done they put the dogs on their leashes and wave goodbye to their families. They start walking down the main path as Goshiki pulls out his phone. “Do you remember where we're supposed to meet up?” Goshiki asks and Kyoutani shakes his head before replying, “I think they sent it to the main GC.”
He quickly finds the place, being one of the newest messages from the GC, he also takes note of Yamaguchi texting that he will be slightly late. He messages a thumbs up to the group before putting the directions on his phone. He relayed the info to Kyoutani who gave a short huff as understanding.
They quickly make it to the place seeing Komori playing with their dog and, who they assume to be, their cousin, Sakusa, sitting at a table with bags. Sakusa is the first to notice them and waves them over, putting away his phone.
“Motoya! Your friends are here!” Komori whips their head around, so fast that Goshiki’s surprised they don’t get whiplash from it, both Komori and the husky already having long forgotten the water. Komori rushes over, almost tripping a few times because of the sand, and wraps them both in a hug, the dog not far behind them.
“Hi! It’s so nice to finally meet you two!” Komori says after letting them go from the hug, practically bouncing. Goshiki nods, “Yeah.” Kyoutani has a slight smile on his face as he speaks up, “Is this Misuka?” Komori smiles and leans down, wrapping their arms around the dog, “Yep! Isn’t she adorable?!”
They all sat down after that and talked, Sakusa properly introducing himself after much bugging from his cousin. They were talking about random things when Sakusa said something, “Hey, do you know them?” He pointed a little ways away at another person who had a service dog and was waving while walking toward them.
“Hello!” The person singed when they fully came into view. “Hey, Fukunaga!” Komori said, smiling at them, “Goshiki and Kyoutani are already here!” Fukunaga smiled at them, reaching out his hand. They both shook his hand, “ It’s nice to meet you guys IRL.” “You too!” Goshiki said, then turning to the dog at Fukunaga’s side, “Is this Koko?”
Fukunaga nodded, and he put their hand on the dog’s collar and gave a light tug. The dog immediately ran over to Goshiki and Komori, both of them giving the Labrador pets. “Aone is on his way. Just grabbing some blankets and water,” the phone says as he sets down a bag of dog toys.
Fukunaga pulls out some balls as they all let the dogs off their leashes and tell them to play. He gives himself and Komori the toys and they toss them to the dogs. Aone and his husky, Shinobu, come a minute later, waving at them as he sets down the bags. He takes Komori’s old seat, them now playing with the dogs, and they all start to talk with Aone making his inputs.
“I’ll go ahead and start the food if everyone’s ready,” Kyoutani says, rising from his seat. Komori turns around and exclaims, “But Yamaguchi’s not here yet!” Kyoutani rolls his eyes, “I’m sure he’ll be here soon. Besides, then he won’t have to wait for food.” Komori pouts but nods their head.
Kyoutani pulls out the food and Sakusa gets up to help him, leaving Goshiki and Aone alone on the bench. They are silent for a second before Goshiki speaks up, “It's nice to finally meet you, Aone. I know we don’t talk much but, it’s nice…” Goshiki says, twirling his hands together. Remy seems to notice from where he is playing and trots up to his owner, laying his head on Goshiki’s lap. He runs his hands through Rent’s hair as Aone signs, “ It’s fine. It’s nice meeting you too. ”
Goshiki smiled and they both turned around to the sound of shouting, “Sorry I’m late!” Yamaguchi stopped next to the table, panting and trying to catch his breath. Yamaguchi’s Border Collie, Samu, was not far behind, coming to a stop right next to his owner. “Hey, Yamaguchi,” Goshiki says, Yamaguchi, giving a shy smile as a response. Komori comes up grinning, “It's fine. Kyoutani just started the burgers!” They all sit down after that as the dogs nap and Kyoutani cooks the burgers.
A few minutes later Kyoutani speaks up, “I finished. Can someone help me pass out the food?” Fukunaga, Aone, and Sakusa stand up and grab some of the bags with extra food in them, setting them out. Goshiki and Yamaguchi get up to help Kyoutani as Komori gets the dogs.
“It looks really good, Kyoutani!” Goshiki says, sounds of agreement sound throughout the table. “Y-yeah. Thanks,” Kyoutani responds, smiling lightly. They all chat as they eat, talking about random things, meeting up again, friends, family, and their dogs. They finished an hour later and started cleaning up the food.
After they had finished, Aone opened up a bag and signed something to Fukunaga. He smiles and turns to the group, “Aone was wondering if we could go into the water. We brought towels.” “Sure! How does that sound to everyone?” Komori asks. They all look at each other and agree.
They all went and changed, Komori and Goshiki being the first two out and dived into the water, their dogs following. Fukunaga was the next one out and quickly got into the water, pulling out his hearing aid first, as Koko stayed on the beach next to the water. Aone, Yamaguchi, and Sakusa sat on the beach a little ways away from the water, chatting as Shinobu played with a toy. Kyoutani was last and grabbed a boogie board from his backpack and quickly swam out, Sāji not far behind.
A played in the water for a bit. Komori started to splash Goshiki with the water as Goshiki let out a shout, “Hey! Watch it!” They giggled and Goshiki got a big handful of water, throwing it at Komori. They had a shocked face and scoffed, “Rude.” They then started to chase each other, throwing water at each other. Suddenly a big wave of water smacked both of them. They both gasped and turned to the attacker, seeing Kyoutani holding his board with both hands, prepared to launch another wave at them. They both screeched, trying as fast as they could to run out of the water, Kyoutani laughing maniacally as he chased them.
Fukunaga caught sight of the situation from where they were trying to get Koko to come into the water and raced over to where the bags were, pulling out a squirt gun. He filled it up and ran into the fight, both Komori and Goshiki now trying to run faster. Fukunaga focused their attack on Kyoutani who was blocking the water with his board. After a few more minutes of fighting and screaming, most of whom were from Komori and Goshiki, they all sat down on towels, panting.
The sun was setting by now and they started to get texts from their parents, asking if they needed them to come get them now. They all gathered the bags and walked to the parking lot together, laughing and talking. They all sat around a bench near the parking lot and waited for a car to come, with slightly awkward silence.
“I-I had fun today,” Goshiki spoke into the silence. They all turned to each other and smiled, Fukunaga the first to say something, “Me too. ” The others smiled and agreed as a car pulled up into the parking lot. “ That’s me and Aone. See you guys later, ” Fukunaga said, bringing everyone into a group hug, with many protests from Kyoutani. “ Bye. ” Aone signed after the hug and picked up the bags. “Wait!” Komori said. They all turned to them and they smiled sheepishly. “Um…” Komori started, Misuka bumped her head into their leg, “I made us all something.” They pulled their backpack off his back and reached in, pulling out a bag.
A few gasps were heard throughout the group. They pulled out two and handed them to Aone and Fukunaga. “I-I wanted to make something for our friendship so, I thought I could make us all phone charms.” They pulled the rest out of their bag, giving them to their respective owners. The group smiled at each other and pulled into another hug.
A honk was heard behind them and they separated, “ Sorry, we gotta go. Thank you. ” Fukunaga and Aone signed and the others waved. They hopped into the car and it pulled out and they waved out the car window. One by one the others started to leave, starting with Yamaguchi, then the cousins, until it was just Kyoutani and Goshiki.
“I,” Kyoutani started, Goshiki turning his attention towards him, “I had a lot of fun today. More than I have had most of this year. So, thanks. I'm really happy you and Komori had us all meet.” Goshiki smiled and nodded, “Yeah. I'm really happy I met all of you.” Goshiki’s car pulled up and he turned his attention towards it. “Well, I guess it's goodbye,” Kyoutani said, running his hand through Sāji’s fur. Goshiki looked between the car and Kyoutani before pulling him into a hug. Goshiki pulled away a minute later and they smiled at each other. Goshiki then headed to his car with Remy as he waved bye.
He hopped into the truck and helped Remy up. The car pulled out of the parking lot as Goshiki played with the charm on his phone. His dad looked at him and smiled, “Have fun?” Goshiki smiled and looked at his dad. “Yeah, lots.”
