So that's where Jasper lived.
The place wasn't beautiful or cozy, just a wide space with broken rocks, it wasn't home. Lapis Lazuli really didn't understand why Jasper had chosen to stay in that place, on that planet.
Lapis thought Jasper would leave eventually. In fact, she was counting on it, she could go anywhere now in the new era, do anything. Why stay on that miserable planet that had caused her so much pain?
If not for Steven and Peridot, Lapis would have left Earth a long time ago. And even with them there were still days when she found herself wondering if it was really worth staying.
But Jasper had stayed. And from what Lapis had heard from Steven, she didn't seem to show any signs of planning on leaving, but neither did she show any signs of wanting to be a part of the gem community that now inhabited Beach City.
Lapis was about to return to the barn when she turned around and saw Jasper behind her, she was carrying two huge rocks, and dropped them as soon as their eyes met.
"What are you doing here?" Jasper asked, her voice sounding strangely vulnerable.
She only sounded like that when talking to Lapis.
“I was just taking a walk. I am already leaving.” Lapis said about to fly away when Jasper grabbed her arm.
“Just walking around and you happen to end up right where I live?”
"Let go of me."
Jasper did as she said immediately. For a moment they just stared at each other.
"Will you not answer me?"
“I'm just trying to understand why you're still here? You don't even like Earth!”
"Neither do you!"
“I like some things!”
“Well, me too!”
"Like what?"
Jasper reacted to the words as if she'd been slapped.
“I stayed on this planet for you. Because that's where you are. Is that what you want to hear?”
Lapis Lazuli looked at her in silence for a moment and then said:
"I didn't ask you to do this."
"I know... do you hate me Lapis?"
For a second Lapis thought about saying yes, not exactly because it was true, but because she knew it was an answer that would hurt Jasper the most. And really that was the whole problem.
“I hate who I am when I'm around you. You bring out sides of me that I don't like very much."
For the first time since they'd met that day Jasper averted her eyes from hers.
"I think you should go away Lapis, there is nothing for you here."
"I could tell you the same thing." Lapis said, her voice strangely gentle considering what it had been said.
When Jasper looked at her again, Lapis had already flown away leaving her alone. Looking up Jasper could see her above for a while, she kept looking until the distance made the blue of Lapis Lazuli indistinguishable from the blue of the night sky.
