Crossing Paths
This chapter takes place during the episode “Hop ’Til You Drop” or Chapter 2 of “The Fourth Light.”
“Well, let’s go!” Luz said as she took Anne’s hand and led her outside.
Amity couldn’t help but smile at this.
It was clear to her that Luz was planning on helping Anne with the obvious emotional turmoil that she was going through.
However, she couldn’t help but sigh at the lapse of judgement her girlfriend had.
Did she seriously forget that Amity hadn’t even been in the human realm for a whole month?
Regardless, Luz and Anne were counting on her! And she was determined to fulfill her mission.
That being said, she had absolutely no clue on what she could do to help the Plantars.
As such, she did the one thing she could think to do… called the one person she could contact easily, and would know something about surviving in the human realm.
She called Eda.
“Surviving in the Human Realm? Why do you need info on that?” Eda asked. “I thought you said it was a lot easier than the Boiling Isles?”
“For me, yes! But for the Plantars?” Amity explained.
“Ah, frogs need help, got it.” Eda said. “Well, if it were up to me, I would simply just throw them into it, but keep an eye on them.”
“I dunno…”
“Like I said, keep an eye on them. Give them something to focus on, preferably something that has to do what you’re trying to accomplish, and go from there.” Eda explained.
“Ok… thanks Eda.” Amity said before hanging up.
She then sighed.
“Where am I going to find a good place where they can focus on their problems?” Amity asked.
“Having trouble Amity?”
Looking over, she saw Ms. Boonchuy approaching.
“Yeah, kinda.” Amity said. “Eda suggested I take the Plantars somewhere where they can focus on their… issues, so we can work them out.”
“Issues?”
“Polly keeps trying to start fights, Sprig can’t keep his hands to himself, and Hop Pop is easily scammed.” Amity explained.
“Hmm… well, I don’t know how much this will help, but the Mall might be a good place.” Ms. Boonchuy explained.
“The Mall huh?” Amity asked.
“There’s a construct a carnivore, which is basically a children’s battleground.” Ms. Boonchuy explained. “An art exhibit, which is something Sprig can avoid trying to touch, and don’t get me started on the amount of people that try to scam you there…”
Amity, who pulled out a notepad halfway through Ms. Boonchuy’s explanation, nodded.
“Battleground, art… scammers… got it!” Amity said.
“Are you sure you’re going to be alright?” Ms. Boonchuy asked.
“Oh yeah, I’ll be fine! I mean, I have to be! Luz and Anne are counting on me!”
Ms. Boonchuy sighed. “Alright… just don’t be afraid to call us if you need help.”
And with that, Ms. Boonchuy handed Amity a spare phone, and went on her way.
“Alright… let’s do this thing!” Amity said as she went to gather the Plantars.
Later, at the Mall
Amity, who simply gave Luz and Anne a small wave as she saw them leaving the mall, was leading the Plantars to the center of the mall, where everything Ms. Boonchuy suggested to her was located.
“Ok Plantars, here’s the deal. Luz and Anne have given me the all important task of making sure the three of you learn how to survive in the Human Realm!” Amity explained.
“Wait, why do you need to do that? We’re fiiii-“
Sprig was cut off when he, Hop Pop and Polly all fell down an escalator.
“… You were saying?” Sprig asked as Amity reached the bottom.
“With the help of Ms. Boonchuy, I have created a task for each of you!” Amity explained as she handed each of them a slip of paper. “Complete this task, and you will be set.”
“And if we don’t?” Hop Pop asked.
“Well, you’ll be letting Anne down terribly… and with everything that’s going on already…” Amity said with a glare.
“… Fair point.” Hop Pop said as he rubbed the back of his head.
“I’ll be keeping an eye on you from the top floor, and you have an hour. Good luck.” Amity said before going back up the escalator.
When she reached the top, she began watching.
For a while, it seemed to be going well, Sprig and Hop Pop seemed a little jittery, and Polly seemed to be getting a bit annoyed at the other kids, but they were, at least for now, doing just fine!
So of course, this is when something that she never in a million years thought could happen, well… happened.
“Oh! My gosh! Is that who I think it is?!” A voice very familiar to Amity said from behind her.
“… Tell me that’s not…”
Turning around, she confirmed that it was, in fact, who she thought it was.
“Well well well! It’s been a while Ms. Blight! What, two weeks now?” The man before her said with a smile.
“Oh uh… hi there… Mr. X was it?” Amity said with a nervous smile.
“That’s me!” Mr. X said as he wheeled over to Amity. “Gotta say, I was not expecting my little trip to the mall would lead me to bumping into you! Especially since the portal to the Demon Realm was in Connecticut…”
He then gave her a suspicious look.
“Oh uh… while Luz is on break because of the…. you know, light show, she wanted to travel the country with me!” Amity explained. “We just flew in yesterday!”
“My my! How romantic, a trip throughout the entire country!” Mr. X gushed. “Where is Noceda anyways?
“Oh, well… she bumped into an old friend that she said moved here a long time ago, and they are going around town catching up!” Amity lied.
“Oh wow! How lucky is that!” Mr. X said.
Suddenly, he was getting a call.
“Well then, I guess that’s my cue to leave.”
“Wait, why are you here?” Amity asked.
“Oh me? My home office is nearby. I was only in Connecticut because well, you know what happened.” Mr. X explained.
“Yeah, the whole thing gave the government a scare, so they called their extraterrestrial expert to investigate.” Amity recalled.
“BINGO! And that is also why I was the one questioning you two.” Mr. X explained.
“Thanks for… you know, putting a good word in for us.” Amity said with a smile.
“Yes well, as long as you don’t cause TOO much trouble, and word doesn’t get out about the whole demon thing, I figured no harm no foul. You are pretty similar to humans after all.” Mr. X explained.
“Right! Anyways, I don’t want to keep you so…”
Suddenly, she heard a crash.
“Oh no…”
Quickly looking over the railing, both Amity and Mr. X saw the Plantars all completely failed their missions in the time that they had their conversation.
“What in the world is going on here?!” Mr. X asked.
“Oh! Uh… those are… abominations!” Amity said nervously.
“Aboma… What?!” Mr. X asked.
“My magic, basically, sludge monsters!” Amity explained. “Since I am away from Hexside for a while, I was given a project! Make Abominations with uh… major flaws to their minds, and see if I can get them to overcome those flaws!”
“… I see…” Mr. X said, a bit skeptical. “And can you get them under control?”
“Yup! I’ll have them rounded up in a jiffy!” Amity said.
“Alright… but don’t let something happen like this again, you hear me?” Mr. X said sternly.
“Yes sir!” Amity said as she quickly rushed down the escalator.
“Love your hair by the way!” Mr. X called out.
“Thanks!” Amity said as she grabbed Polly.
Mr. X, while he found the whole situation weird and concerning, he decided to let Amity handle it.
She was the expert on magic after all.
When Amity finally managed to gather up the Plantars, she lead them outside and into a nearby alley.
“You guys… have NO IDEA how bad the timing of that was!” Amity shouted.
“Uh… how bad?” Sprig asked.
“If it wasn’t for me, you’d all be taken to a government compound right about now!” Amity shouted. “And I was only BARELY able to help you!”
“… Oh…”
Amity just sighed.
“Listen… you guys need to be more careful… Anne needs all the help she can get right now with what happened in your world, and having her worry about you three all the time is doing the opposite.” Amity explained.
“… Yeah, I guess you’re right.” Sprig said sadly.
“We’ll try to be more careful.” Hop Pop said.
“What he said…” Polly sighed out.
“Alright… at least you learned a bit from all of this…” Amity sighed out.
The Plantars then looked to each other, and nodded.
They needed to make this up to her.
“Hey Amity, what do you say we help you knock Better Dressed Anne’s socks off when she get’s back?” Polly suddenly asked.
“Huh…? Oh uh… ok?” Amity asked.
“Sprig! It’s your time to shine!” Polly said with a smile.
And Sprig simply cracked his knuckles.
“My time, has come.”
The End.
Anything that wasn’t covered here, just assumed it happened exactly the same as in the show, only with Amity in Anne’s place.
So fun fact: the X in my username is actually pronounced “Cross.” So really, you could spell this chapter as “X-ing Paths” which, of course, refers to Mr. X!
Yup! This is how I introduce Mr. X! I really wanted to write something with him, and I thought I would use this opportunity to introduce the fact that he has actually met Amity and Luz already!
In case it wasn’t obvious, they met when he was called in to investigate what happened with The Day of Unity. As for why he decided to let things be… well, read Recovery when it comes out.
Speaking of, if you are reading this, then that means that Amphibia as a whole is over…
I-I AM SO FREAKING SAD! ;_; I am gonna miss this wonderful show so much… I am not gonna spoil the finale in case anyone hasn’t seen it… but oh my gosh I actually cried.
Since Amphibia is done, that means that I am now officially beginning real production on Recovery. I have the first few chapters done already, but that’s about it. Keep an eye on my twitter for updates on a potential release date (77Xfire on twitter)! I don’t know exactly how long it’ll take, probably between a couple weeks to maybe even a couple of months, but I will keep working on this until it’s done!
Anyways, that’s all from me for now! While my main focus is going to be pretty much entirely on Recovery, I do have a lot else planned. “No Matter What” is just about done, I just wanna proofread it a good bit. I will probably start it sometime next week!

And btw, I am aware that Mr. and Ms. Boonchuy’s names finally got revealed, I will be utilizing these names in future stories :)
