Work Text:
One Year Later
Marcy woke up that day the only way she possibly could with how excited she was…
She didn't.
The E-
Actually, the truth was that she never went to sleep in the first place!
Sure, she promised Anne no more all nighters a while back, but this was different! This was Marcy being way too excited to spend the day with her girlfriend that she just couldn't sleep!
Why was she so excited this day in particular? Well, that is quite simple.
Today marked one year since that fateful day. The day that they reunited in Newtopia, defeated the barbariants, and, most importantly, began dating.
She'd get all the sleep she needed that night… probably.
For now though, she leapt out of her bed and made her way to the downstairs of the Boonchuy household.
That was another thing. Ever since they saved Amphibia, Anne and her family had been allowing Marcy to stay at their place. So really, Marcy wanted to do everything she could to make Anne feel special on their anniversary.
After a full night of planning though… she only really came up with one thing:
Breakfast in bed.
As such, she decided that was the best place to start!
However, when she got to the kitchen, she saw Mr. and Ms. Boonchuy staring at her.
"Oh! Uh… good morning…?" Marcy asked.
"…Breakfast in bed?" Oum asked.
"… Yeah." Marcy said bashfully.
"… Good thing we bought those extra eggs then!" Bee said as he opened the fridge, revealing an excess of ingredients.
Marcy's eyes went wide as she let out a huge gasp.
"No! WAY!" Marcy said happily.
"We figured you'd want to do something special for Anne today, so we decided to be prepared." Bee explained.
"You two are actually the best!" Marcy said happily.
She then bounded over and took a carton of eggs out of the fridge.
Then, after placing it on the table, she pulled a recipe up on her phone, rolled up her sleeves, and got to work.
"Uh… do you not want our help?" Oum asked.
"Nope!" Marcy said. "This is for my and Anne's anniversary! I have to make it special! Can't do that with you guys doing all the work!"
The two Boonchuy's looked at each other grimly.
"Okay… if you say so…" Bee said.
The two of them then walked away…
"Get the fire extinguisher ready."
"Already on it." Bee said as he began walking to the garage.
About an hour later, Anne was just then stirring from her slumber.
She then stretched her arms and back and blinked the sleepiness out of her eyes.
And for a moment… everything was serene…
CRASH
Until she heard that.
Knowing full well what day it was, and that Marcy would do SOMETHING for it, she leapt out of her bed and rushed downstairs.
"What happened, is everyone alri-"
Then, she stopped talking and began smirking.
As Marcy was on the ground, looking up cutely, and covered in pancake batter.
"H-Hey Anna Banana!"
Anne couldn't help but laugh at this.
"Hey Mar-Mar, having a bit of trouble down there?" Anne asked.
"Uh… just a bit! Nothing to worry about though! You can go back to bed!"
Anne only smirked at this as she walked over to the sink.
After putting some water in her hand, she walked over to Marcy and simply grabbed a strand of her hair with two of her fingers.
The sound of a slight sizzle was all Marcy needed to know what was going on.
"… My hair was on fire?"
"Yup."
"Ugh…" Marcy groaned out as she flopped onto her back.
"Come on, let's get this all cleaned up."
"Noooooo…" Marcy groaned out feebly. "Let me do it, I just wanted to do something nice for youuuuu…"
"You can do that by letting me help. Come on." Anne said as she grabbed Marcy's arms and pulled her to her feet.
"Fiiiiiiiiiine…" Marcy said as she grabbed a sponge.
The two then spent a couple of minutes cleaning up the mess, before Anne put the ingredients on the counter.
"So, what were you trying to make?" Anne asked.
"… Eggs and Pancakes…"
"Ok, that's not to hard, come on." Anne said as she gestured Marcy to come over to the bowl she laid out.
Meanwhile, Oum and Bee watched as their daughter walked Marcy through how to make pancake batter.
"They really are great together." Oum pointed out.
"We've known that for years."
"True. Come on, we can leave this to them now." Oum said as she walked away, Bee following.
Before long, the two girls were finished with breakfast and sitting on the couch.
"Sorry…"
"Sorry? For what?"
"I wanted to make you breakfast in bed today, instead you ended up helping me make the breakfast…" Marcy admitted.
"Aww Marcy! That's so sweet! But you know you don't have to do anything for me." Anne said as she hugged her. "I just wanted to spend the day with you, that's all."
Marcy couldn't help but smile at this.
"Dang it, why are your happy vibes so contagious?" Marcy asked.
"Cause you luuuuuuuuuuuv meeeeeee!" Anne said in a teasing tone.
"Fair point." Marcy said. "Curse you Anna-Banana! How dare you be so lovable!"
Anne then let out the best evil laugh she could, before the two of them just began giggling.
"So… what else do you want to do today?" Anne asked.
"I dunno… wanna watch a movie?" Marcy asked.
"Yeah, I think we can do that." Anne said as she got up and went to the nearby movie cabinet (half of the movies having been gotten only cause of the Plantars).
After looking around a bit, she couldn't help but smile.
"Alright, I got a good one for you." Anne said as she grabbed the movie and began setting it up.
A moment later, she was back on the couch as the movie began to play.
When Marcy saw the title, she was caught off guard.
"War of the… Warlocks?" Marcy asked.
"Yup! Think it's high time I saw your favorite movie!" Anne said.
"Anne… you don't have to watch this. I know it's a bit… long." Marcy said.
"So? You love this movie, so that makes it worth it to me!" Anne said.
The effect of these words were apparent instantly, as Marcy began beaming.
Then, she pulled Anne in for an incredibly tight, yet incredibly soft somehow, hug.
For some reason, Anne heard the sound that could only be described as a teddy bear squeaking.
"You are absolutely adorable, you know that?"
And Marcy immediately began squirming in her arms.
"Anne! Stop calling me cute!" Marcy laughed out. "My heart can't take it!"
"NEVER!" Anne shouted as she began kissing Marcy's cheek.
"Anne!" Marcy shouted, though she couldn't stop laughing.
After a moment, Anne stopped her antics, and with her still laughing girlfriend wrapped in her right arm, grabbed the remote with her left.
"Now come on, let's watch this monster sized movie." Anne said as she hit the play button.
After a moment, Marcy's laughter died down, and she snuggled in close to Anne.
Sure, her plan didn't work out how she wanted, but at that moment, nothing mattered but the girl that she was holding her in her arms.
It was absolutely perfect.
The End.
Well, that took me a lot longer than I wanted…
Sorry this took me so long, I work retail and as you can imagine, the holiday season is very busy and exhausting for me…
Regardless though, I hope this story put a smile on your face!
As I mentioned before, this story is completely non-canon to the rest of the series, so don't think this spoils anything I have planned for Recovery.
Speaking of Recovery, I announced this on twitter earlier today (77Xfire), but I'll do it here too.
Recovery will be starting in about a month. The plan is to start releasing Recovery and A True Family in batches to avoid making me feel overwhelmed about having to finish these stories before I can release them, and lets you all have something quicker with a lower likelihood of delays. Why a month though?
Well, that is about how long it'll take to release the first batch of A True Family! The first chapter releases tomorrow, and we will be going with that for four weeks!
So, see you all tomorrow for the beginning of A True Family!
