Work Text:
“Lance, come to my office,” Lucifer sounded from the entrance to the house. Lance glanced up at him nervously and quickly followed after the Avatar of Pride. His hands fidgeted with the straps of his backpack. “Sit.”
Lance gulped at the angry tone Lucifer had. Quickly, he slid the backpack off his shoulders and took a seat. “Is something wrong?”
“Yes, something is wrong. You were selected for this exchange program, and it appears you are not working enough to succeed. One of your professors has informed me that you’re not paying attention in class.”
Lance furrowed his eyebrows together. “Which professor?”
"Mathematics,” Lucifer said as his fingers tapped on his desk. His eyes were narrowed into a glare at the human.
"When did the professor say this?” Lance asked as he began to dig through his bag.
“A couple of days ago,” Lucifer spoke, his irritation growing. “You aren’t paying attention to this conversation now. You need to learn a less—”
Lance slammed a paper down on Lucifer’s desk and leaned back with his arms crossed. “I got a perfect score on the quiz today. I draw in class to help me pay attention. It might look like I’m not, but I am.”
Lucifer raised an eyebrow as he took the quiz and examined it closely. “I see…”
“I’m sure if you talk to the professor now, he’s gotten over it.” Lance took out his other assignments with high scores. “And just in case any of my other professors have a problem, here are my assignments.” Lance glared at Lucifer as he seethed out, “Am I still not working hard enough, Lucifer?”
Lucifer eyed the others. “No, it appears you are. In fact, I may have you tutor Mammon with these grades.”
“Only if you apologize to me.”
Lucifer peered up from the papers Lance had handed him. He was silent for a moment. Just as Lance was about to storm out, Lucifer spoke. “I apologize, Lance. I am proud of the work you have put into this.”
Lance blinked in shock at Lucifer’s words. “Your pride comes from others…”
Lucifer stilled before he quickly put the papers into a neat pile and handed them back to Lance. “You’re dismissed.”
