Wedding News

Summary:

Obi-Wan ventures to Coruscant to tell Anakin and Ahsoka about his upcoming wedding to Satine. The two have mixed reactions or rather Anakin does.

This is in my Family Portrait series. I did do a small summary in the notes in case someone who hasn't read that wants to read this.

Notes:

I tested positive for COVID so I blame any typos or mistakes on COVID. I gifted this work to the people who requested a chapter where Ahsoka and Anakin find out the good news. I hope that is okay.

I wrote this not really intending it to be stand alone, but I guess what you mostly need to know is Obi-Wan and Satine are together after Obi-Wan found out Bo is his kid. I could explain my theory but I have COVID. I have part of it explained on the Family Portrait main story.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Obi-Wan hadn’t gone to Coruscant for awhile now. It seemed like ages since he had lived there when he wasn’t on missions. It had been his home for a long time, but now that was Mandalore, and he loved Mandalore in a way that he hadn’t Coruscant.

Bo and Korkie had wanted to go with him, but Obi-Wan thought it would be best if he went by himself. And the teens had snuck out to go to Krownest so they shouldn’t get to go anyway. They needed to face some consequences for what they had done.

So they would be staying home regardless of what they wanted. Obi-Wan hoped that they would learn that they couldn’t run off without permission and that Obi-Wan and Satine would handle what was going on with Death Watch, but somehow he doubted it. He could feel through the Force that Bo was still very worried about it.

Not that he needed the Force to even tell, despite how she tried to hide it.

He left only a few days after the incident with the teenagers. Yes, he could have told Ahsoka and Anakin in person but he wanted to do it to their faces.

And the two of them had told him they would be back at the Jedi Temple. Obi-Wan wasn’t planning to stay long and he was sure they would be busy soon but he would be able to have lunch with the two of them. He had other people who he wanted to break the news to as well.

And just people he wanted to see.

No one as much as Anakin and Ahsoka though.

It didn’t take him long to meet up with them once he got to the planet. Obi-Wan was even going to a place that he used to like a lot. Not Dex’s though sadly but he might stop in there later. Maybe one day he would take Bo and Korkie there when he took them to this planet to visit. Maybe Satine as well. The kids would probably like it better.

“I didn’t think we would see you so soon again, Master,” Anakin said.

Obi-Wan just smiled “You know you don’t need to call me that anymore.”

Ahsoka smiled and hugged him.

“Old habits die hard,” Anakin said, shrugging, but he also was smirking. “Where is your family?”

“Satine had work and the teenagers are in trouble for what happened on Krownest.”

Ahsoka sighed and rolled her eyes as the three of them sat at a table. “Bo was just trying to get information for you. Korkie wasn’t even supposed to come.”

“I would never have allowed anything to happen to any of them anyway,” Anakin said. “You know that.”

“I wasn’t aware you would be there,” Obi-Wan said. “And honestly things seem to get worse and more dangerous whenever you’re around, Anakin. You like breaking the rules and getting into trouble. Perhaps, it’s worse that you showed up.”

“Skyguy does like to break rules,” Ahsoka said.

“As if you’re any better, Snips,” Anakin said with a roll of his eyes.

“Well, you hardly set a good example for her,” Obi-Wan said.

“Whatever you say,” Anakin said with a sigh.

Ahsoka smirked.

The three of them talked about the war and other Jedi related things, and then eventually ordered food and drinks. The drinks here were different from Mandalore. Less strong, but they tasted much better.

Now this drink tasted strange and weak, but he still drank it. It had taken awhile for them to be able to get their orders taken but that was because like so many places on this planet, the restaurant was packed full of people.

“I wish you would have brought Bo-Katan,” Ahsoka said.

Ahsoka and Bo hadn’t spent a lot of time together, but Obi-Wan could tell that the two girls got along well. It was too bad that Ahsoka couldn’t come visit more. Whenever Obi-Wan mentioned Ahsoka to Satine she would make comments about how it was horrible that child had to fight in a war.

Now he agreed too.

And yet he knew that if things had been different and he hadn’t found out that Bo-Katan was his daughter, that he might be taking teenagers into war too. It seemed so impossible, but yet he knew that it probably was what would have occurred.

“Maybe she can come next time,” Obi-Wan said. “Right now, she’s in trouble for that whole Krownest excursion.”

Ahsoka sighed and exchanged looks with Anakin. The two of them probably didn’t think that it was a big deal, especially not Ahsoka who was younger than Bo.

“I have some news to tell the two of you,” Obi-Wan said, wanting to move on from the subject of Krownest.

“Are you coming back to the Jedi Order?” Anakin asked, sounding almost hopeful for a moment.

Obi-Wan blinked. He hadn’t thought that they would guess something like that.

“He’s not going to come back, Skyguy,” Ahsoka said. “He’s happy being with his family. Happier than he was with us.”

“I loved being a Jedi,” Obi-Wan said and it was true. It had what he had been raised to be after all. He still had so many friends with the Jedi Order. He still believed most of what the Jedi Order stood for and he didn’t think that would ever change, but he would never leave his family. He loved them.

He had attachments to them that Jedi weren’t supposed to have.

“I loved being around you two as well, but I wouldn’t come back unless things changed with the Jedi Order, and I would keep living in Mandalore with my family,” Obi-Wan said, so in a way he would have to work from home unless he was on a mission. But he knew that the Jedi Order probably would never change that much.

Qui-Gon had wanted to make changes to the Jedi Order, but he had declined being on the Council so he could keep training Obi-Wan. Maybe if he had lived, he would have gotten offered a position on it again after he finished training Anakin, but Maul had murdered him. The Galaxy was worse off without having Qui-Gon in it.

Obi-Wan would never stop wishing that Qui-Gon was still alive, even if he had become one with the Force.

He would have been the kind of master that Anakin deserved. Obi-Wan cared about Anakin. He was the brother he had always wanted, but Qui-Gon had more experience than he did.

But Maul had murdered him and Obi-Wan had done the best he could. And he was proud of how Anakin had turned out. He was an amazing man and a great Jedi. Qui-Gon would have been proud of him as well.

Obi-Wan hoped that Qui-Gon would have felt the same about him, even though he had left the Jedi Order.

“I suppose I knew that,” Anakin said. “But you know that—”

“I don’t want to keep what I have with Satine secret,” Obi-Wan said. “Especially since we have a child together.”

Obi-Wan hoped that they would have more children later, and he wanted to adopt Korkie. So many people already thought that he was his son. Sometimes people told him that he looked more like him than Bo. Obi-Wan didn’t agree on that, but it was touching that people thought he and Korkie resembled each other.

And he wanted Korkie to officially be his son. He wanted everyone to know that Bo-Katan was his daughter as well.

“Do you have a secret, Skyguy?” Ahsoka asked, smirking at him. She had to suspect that he and Padme were an object, but Obi-Wan doubted that she would straight out say that.

“Obi-Wan is the one with the secret,” Anakin muttered. “And he should tell us what it is.”

Obi-Wan smiled and studied the two of them. He had imagined how they would react to the news and he was just about to see it.

“Satine and I are getting married,” Obi-Wan said. Even now when he said it, part of him was still shocked that it was true. Marriage wasn’t something for most Jedi. And the ones that got approved for it were in species that were endangered or had special circumstances. That wasn’t the case with humans.

Ahsoka and Anakin were silent at first but then Ahsoka squealed and clutched her hands together. She jumped up and hugged Obi-Wan.

“I knew it! I just knew it! You and Satine are great together. I’m so happy for you both!”

Anakin was staring at Obi-Wan as if he couldn’t believe it. And that was what he was feeling. Obi-Wan could sense it through the Force. There were other emotions too, probably tied into how Anakin and Padme had to keep their relationship a secret.

“I want to go to the wedding!”

“It’s going to be small but of course you should go, Ahsoka,” Obi-Wan said, returning her hug. “Satine and I wouldn’t be able to imagine you not being there.”

“I’m so happy for you both,” Ahsoka said again as she let go of Obi-Wan.

Anakin was still staring at him but then he smiled and nodded. “Yeah, this is great. You and Satine… well, I don’t know how you got lucky enough to be with someone like her. I thought you didn’t like to be around politicians anyway.”

“She’s different than most and believe me, I know that I’m the lucky one.” Things easily could have worked out differently when he would never have gotten to be with her again. Stars, if the Council had assigned someone else to protect Satine all those years ago, he might never have met her.

And their amazing daughter wouldn’t exist.

Anakin nodded and rubbed the back of his neck.

“Ahsoka, why don’t you see if you can get us more drinks,” Obi-Wan said, because he wanted a chance to speak to Anakin without her here.

“That’s not my job,” Ahsoka said. “Soon our waiter will come and he’ll do that.”

“Obi-Wan wants to talk to me without you being here, but he’s being polite,” Anakin said.

Obi-Wan sighed and shook his head, even though it was true.

“I don’t know why you need to talk about anything without me being here,” Ahsoka said, but she stood up and pushed her chair into the table and then walked away to find someone.

“Anakin…” Obi-Wan said, knowing that he should say more. They didn’t have much time. Ahsoka would be back soon or at least would be close enough that she would try and eavesdrop on the two of them.

“This isn’t fair,” Anakin said. “You and the duchess are living a perfect life while—”

“My life is far from perfect,” Obi-Wan said, and that was true. There was no such thing as a perfect life. Obi-Wan had missed out on his daughter’s life until recently, and Satine and Bo had a complicated relationship which Obi-Wan wanted to fix or at least help improve. He still had much to learn about his daughter as well. Not to mention Death Watch was still out there and others who might want to hurt his family.

Anakin sighed.

“You don’t have to keep your relationship with Padmé a secret if—” Obi-Wan tried to say, but he didn’t get a chance to finish. Typical Anakin not letting Obi-Wan finish his train of thought.

“I’m not going to leave the Jedi Order,” Anakin said. “Not when there is a war going on. Not when people need me. Even Padmé understands how important what we do is.”

Obi-Wan bit the inside of his mouth. “It is important. Very important but—”

“But nothing,” Anakin said. “I’m making a difference in the Galaxy. I’m making it a better place.” He sighed. “Maybe when the war is over, things will be different.”

“You’ll do what you think is right,” Obi-Wan said. He thought about mentioning how he and Satine would be there for him and Padmé, but Anakin already knew that.

“You have children so it’s different for you,” Anakin said. “Padmé and I don’t have any.”

“I would hope you didn’t manage to keep children a secret from me as well,” Obi-Wan said, smiling slightly, even the whole thing wasn’t funny. He was about to say something else, but that was when Ahsoka came over with two drinks. The talk with Anakin would have to be good enough.

Obi-Wan just couldn’t help but worry about his former padawan and what might end up happening because of this secret that he and Padmé were keeping.
