Work Text:

One afternoon, Yamato showed up at Sora's door with a bouquet of sunflowers in his hands.

"They're beautiful," Sora said as she greeted him with a kiss. She wanted to take the flowers from his hands, but he didn't want to let go of them.

"Let me put them in a vase for you," he said. "Maybe you can show me how to arrange them the way you like it."

She smiled at his sweet idea. They went into the kitchen together, where Sora was able to find a vase that was small but allowed the sunflowers to be showcased for their vibrant, joyful color. After she prepared the vase with water and other preservatives, she had Yamato help her cut the stems of the sunflowers to various lengths.

"The longer ones can go in the middle, and we can make the others short to line the rim for the full effect," she suggested.

"I'm sure it'll look great once we put them in the vase," replied Yamato.

Sora stood next to Yamato as he began to place the sunflowers into the vase, starting with the longer stemmed flowers in the center. He then followed with the ones with shorter stems surrounding the longer ones, allowing each sunflower disk and petals to be visible. She smiled at the care that Yamato took to handle each flower, and she watched his delicate movements and his gentle touch between the flowers and the vase.

It relaxed her to watch him with her face right over his shoulder, his blue-eyed expression at ease.

"Oh," Sora said when she noticed unevenness between a few flowers. "I think you should move it like this."

She took his hand which had a light grip on one of the flowers and led it slightly to the right, which let the stem of the flower lean into a better position.

"Does it look okay?" Yamato asked Sora as she wrapped her arms around his torso from his back.

"It's perfect," she replied. "You have made my day and I barely helped you. You even chose the flowers on your own."

He turned his head to her, their noses nearly touching. "I chose the ones that I knew would make you the happiest."

"Choosing you made me the happiest."

The sunflowers were beautiful by the window against the afternoon sun, Sora thought, and so was Yamato, whose blue eyes shimmered as he smiled before his lips inched closer to meet hers with a kiss.
