Work Text:
Yamato walked into the kitchen with a perplexed expression.
“Is there something the matter?” Sora asked as she finished washing the dishes.
“You know how I pulled out the old box from the depths of the bedroom closet?” he asked. “I left it there for a while, and I could have sworn I saw my old harmonica in there… I came back to the box and now I can’t find the darned thing anywhere.”
Sora shook her head, a stern look showing on her face. “I told you to close it up before leaving the room. You never know what she gets her hands on or where she wanders off to.”
“Yes, I know,” he added with a sigh. “I guess I know where to start looking.”
A bubble of a child’s laughter bursted from the other room. Sora eyed Yamato with her eyebrows raised, and Yamato knew all he had to do was to follow the voice.
When he entered the next room, he spotted the harmonica right away, in the hands of his three-year-old daughter.
“Aoi-chan!” he called, and the bright blue-eyed blonde turned to look at him. There she sat, caught red-handed, but her face showed no sign of guilt. In a few seconds the look of curiosity in her eyes turned to joy as Yamato approached her.
He bent down to meet her level. “Aoi-chan, it’s not nice to take Daddy’s things without asking,” he told her in a serious tone.
The low mumbling and the frown on her face implied to Yamato that she understood. But Yamato found it hard to scold her any further with that adorable look on her face.
“Here, give that to Daddy,” he said. “I’ll show you how it works.”
Aoi held the harmonica out to Yamato. He took it, wiped it with the bottom of his shirt, and then he pressed it on his lips and began to play his favorite tune. His daughter was no longer frowning, but watching her daddy in awed silence as he played a song for her.
And Sora stood leaning against the door frame with a smile.
