A Night to Remember

Summary:

Harry asks Theo out to the Yule Ball, and Pansy gives a begrudging Harry a makeover.

Notes:

I’m not great at romance, but I did want to try my hand at it so here you go. Also I rushed this at like 5 minutes before the deadline because I literally got this idea on the same day. It’s funny to imagine s&s Harry who still struggles with looking good.

Work Text:

“Theo, would you do me the honor of coming as my date to the Yule Ball?”

He fully expected him to tell him to drop the act, or laugh at him…

Instead, Theo just smiled at him, and he’d never seen his smile that warm. Though it’d still look quite menacing to other people.

“Took you long enough.”

“Wait, you knew?” Harry felt his face heat up. He didn’t think that he was that obvious.

Theo snickered. “It was quite clear, but I’d love to go with you.”

Harry let go of a breath he wasn’t aware he was holding. They started walking back to the common room, their hands conjoined when they were alone in the halls.

Harry sat there rereading the same passage over and over in his book. The Yule Ball was tomorrow, and he didn’t think he’d be more nervous about it than the First Task.

He didn’t let it show of course, and he thought he was doing a good job hiding it until Pansy came to sit with him at his table.

“Why do you look like you’re about to melt at the spot?” Pansy asked him in a cheerful voice.

“I don’t-“

“Yeah, sure,” she rolled her eyes at him. “What’s it about?”

The truth was, he was concerned about what he would wear for the Yule Ball. He was pretty familiar with the pureblood customs and dances already, but he still had trouble with fashion. He could dress presentably pretty easily, but he just didn’t know yet how to actually look good.

“Well, if you’re not going to tell me, I’ll just try and guess. This is obviously about the Yule Ball, so is it about your wardrobe?” Pansy raised her eyebrows at him.

Something must’ve given him away, because Pansy grinned at him. “Ah, it is.”

“How does everybody know what I’m thinking of nowadays,” he grumbled out. “Yes, I have no clue what to wear.”

“Do you not have your own dress robes?”

“Obviously I do, but I’m still not sure if they’d look good on me,” he started to pack up his things. “I’ll just figure it out tomorrow.”

“We.”

“Huh?”

“I said,” Pansy looked directly at him. “We’ll work it out tomorrow. It’s clear you don’t have the best fashion sense, so why not let an expert help?”

He didn’t think he had much of a choice. Once Pansy set her mind to something, it was almost impossible to convince her out of it. He nodded.

“Excellent.”

The following morning, Pansy dragged Harry out of Transfiguration as classes ended.

“We’re going to start early, since we want to have time to prepare ourselves.” Pansy told him as she led him to an empty classroom.

“Wait, who’s we?”

She pushed open the door, and he saw Blaise sitting at a table with a vanity mirror. A small closet was by the wall, and right beside it was a very reluctant Draco.

“I thought it’d just be us here.” Harry glared at Pansy, who just raised her eyebrows.

“Nice to meet you too.” Blaise smirked at him.

“I needed someone else to help me, and Blaise has a good eye so he was perfect,” Pansy started to pull out the contents of her bag, which mostly contained hair sprays. “As for Draco, he’s here because he’s the only other person who spends a longer time on their hair than me.”

“Plus, she said I was the only hope in taming your wild hair, so how could I say no after that?” Draco said, moving to help Pansy.

“Hey! It’s not as bad as Jules.”

“But, still pretty bad,” Blaise snickered. “It’s acceptable, but nowhere near appealing for the Yule Ball.”

“I hate you all.” Harry started to regret agreeing to this idea.

They had him sit at the vanity mirror, charmed by Daphne and Hermione to show different hairstyles, and started to work on his hair.

Harry’s head felt heavy after all the charms and potions put by Pansy and Draco, but he couldn’t deny it looked good.

Draco left soon after, wanting to also work on his own hair, which left Blaise and Pansy to work on his outfit. They had him go through and try multiple dress robes courtesy of Blaise, before finally settling on a dark green robe.

They managed to charm it so it fit him just right, and by the time they were done the sun was starting to set.

Harry took a look at himself at the mirror, and was completely surprised how different he looked. His hair was combed in a wave, and the robes managed to bring out his eyes.

“Perfect! Now you’re ready to go.” Pansy exclaimed. “Theo’s in for a treat.”

Harry lined up with the other champions outside the Great Hall. He grinned at Hermione when their eyes met, her dress perfectly complimenting her hair which was in an elegant bun.

He was just waiting for Theo now, who he didn’t see in the common room when they came back. The doors were about to open when he saw him running down the staircase.

And he looked stunning.

He was in an ivory suit, with a light blue lining on the edges. He quickly came to Harry’s side, and together, they went inside the Great Hall to lead the dance.

It was a fairly straightforward dance, which Harry was thankful for, as all he could think of right now was Theo. “You look amazing.”

Theo smiled, the same warm smile he had yesterday. “And you don’t look bad as well.”

“Wow, is that the only compliment I get?” Harry smiled in return, as they moved to the center.

They were easily the most graceful couple there, their steps flowing easily.

“I can give you something much better.”

“Oh?”

And as the song ended, Theo leaned in for a kiss.
