Yuri awoke to a loud banging at her front door. She groggily opened her eyes, before looking over at her alarm clock.
3:45 in the morning. She couldn’t help but be a bit panicked at who could possibly be knocking so loudly on her door so late at night.
Yuri slowly got out of bed, grabbing one of her fancy switch-blades just in case. She then slinked down the stairs, taking note of the fact that the loud banging had not stopped.
She took a peek through the peep hole, only to see her girlfriend, Natsuki, standing at her doorstep. Yuri almost thought she was still dreaming. She even felt the temptation to poke her finger with her knife to see if she would feel any sort of pain. But she shook that thought away and instead put the knife in her pocket and then opened the door.
When she opened the door, she was startled when Natsuki thrusted herself into Yuri’s arms. Yuri was, of course, confused by this. She was still sleepy from being awoken so suddenly in the middle of the night. Couple that with the fact that her girlfriend was hugging her so tightly that Yuri felt something pop in her back, she was incredibly lost on what to do.
Meanwhile, Natsuki was hugging Yuri for dear life. She bit back the urge to cry and sob into Yuri shoulder. She instead opted to breathing in and out, all the while taking in Yuri’s sweet smelling shampoo.
Eventually, Natsuki pulled away.
”I know this is kinda sudden, but I honestly didn’t have anywhere else to go.” Natsuki was avoiding her partner in the eyes, as she was too afraid and slightly ashamed to do such a thing.
It was then that Yuri noticed that Natsuki had a small bag by her feet. She must’ve dropped it there when she hugged her...
Yuri finally grabbed a hold of her senses and picked up the pink bag.
”W-well, come on in. I’ll make you a drink. Do you have a preference?” Yuri said, grabbing a hold of Natsuki’s hand and leading her inside.
”U-um... do you have any milk?” Natsuki said, feeling a tiny bit childish for asking for such a beverage. But Yuri smiled a little.
”Yes, I do. Here, I’ll show you where my room is so you can put your things down.”
Natsuki nodded and followed Yuri upstairs.
Natsuki had always had a general thought about what Yuri’s room would look like and she was surprisingly spot on. The room had deep purple walls with black, floral patterns as an accent. She had a sophisticated looking bed, a small wooden desk across from it, a HUGE bookshelf, and a large wardrobe.
Natsuki walked inside slowly, carefully calculating every step she took. Yuri felt nervous, but pushed it aside.
”I will go get you your drink. I’ll... be right back.”
”Yeah...” Natsuki said in a daze.
When Yuri retreated downstairs, Natsuki plopped her bag on the floor and began exploring her surroundings. She walked over to the wardrobe and opened it. She found something in particular that caught her eye. It was a beige colored turtleneck sweater. She pulled it off of the hanger and inspected it.
At that moment, Yuri had returned with a warm glass of milk. She damn near dropped the glass when she saw Natsuki holding her favorite sweater. Natsuki took quick notice and quickly hung the sweater back up.
”S-sorry. I-I probably should’ve asked...” Natsuki grumbled, feeling embarrassed.
”N-No, it’s fine.” Yuri said with a nervous smile. She then handed Natsuki the glass of milk.
They both sat down on Yuri’s bed. After a while of awkward tension and silence, Natsuki finished her milk and broke the quiet air.
”Can I borrow your sweater?”
“H-huh? W-why would you wanna do that?”
”B-Because!! It...smells like you..”
Yuri felt her face light into a fiery blush. She nodded her head once.
”Y-Yes, I suppose that’s fair logic. Haha...” Yuri said with a nervous giggle.
Natsuki stood and went back over to the wardrobe and grabbed the sweater turtleneck once more. She then excused herself to change.
When she returned, she was wearing a pair of pink shorts and Yuri’s sweater. The sweater drowned her, which only made her look cuter. The sleeves went past her hands and the sweater went past her butt and the shorts. Needless to say, Yuri was fangirling like crazy in her mind. She never thought she looked extraordinary with the sweater on herself, but Natsuki wore it like it was made for Natsuki alone.
While Yuri was lost in thought, Natsuki was blushing like a damn buffoon. She felt like she almost shouldn’t like wearing her girlfriends sweater, but... normal couples do this, right? I mean, Monika stole MC’s hoodie all the time! So if she could do it, why couldn’t Natsuki. She shook those negative thoughts away and looked down at the sleeves of her partner’s sweater. It was then that Natsuki noticed a few dark red stains on the sleeves.
”H-Hey, what are these stains?” Natsuki questioned. Yuri snapped out of her daze and immediately fell into a panicked state.
”O-oh! Th-those are nothing! I-I must’ve spilt something on the sleeves, it’s nothing really!” Natsuki cocked her head to the side in that cute way she did when she was confused. Ordinarily, Yuri would have found it cute. But the situation had made the head-tilt the LAST thing she was thinking about.
”Really? How’d you spill it in streaks like this?”
”D-DON’T worry about it!! It’s really nothing!” Yuri yelled louder than she meant too. It was then that Natsuki felt something click in her head.
”Yuri..” Natsuki said with intimidation. “Pull up your sleeves.”
”WHAT!? Why do you want me to do that?!?!”
”I want to see if you’re CUTTING!! Show me!!”
”NO! I don’t want to!”
”BUT I DO!”
”NO!” Yuri then felt her lungs gasp for air. She started hyperventilating and tearing up. She covered her face up with her hands. Natsuki felt panicked as she saw her girlfriend begin to break down crying.
”H-hey...! I won’t be mad or anything! I just want to make sure that...”
”Please, Natsuki...” Yuri said quietly, cutting Natsuki off. “just leave me be for a little bit.”
Natsuki fell quiet for a little bit. But she silently stood and left the room, heading downstairs to sleep on the couch.
Later on that night, Natsuki was still awake. But she kept her eyes shut like her life depended on it when, eventually, she heard footsteps come from upstairs to down.
She heard the footsteps walk over to her and Yuri sit down on the floor beside her supposedly sleeping head.
”I’m so sorry, Natsuki. I should’ve told you sooner, but I couldn’t bring myself to. I have been trying to stop on my own, but I can’t. Haha... I guess you could say I’m almost addicted to cutting as much as I am to you.” Yuri then fell silent for a little bit before Natsuki spoke, breaking the quiet air.
”Ya done...?” Yuri jumped so hard she could’ve probably hit the ceiling.
”Sorry!!” Natsuki said, sitting up to try and calm Yuri down.
”No, no. I must’ve woken you up.”
”I was awake before.”
”So... are you... mad at me?”
”No!! I-I can kinda understand.”
”Really?”
”Yeah. I mean, I haven’t ever cut myself before... but I’ve thought about it. My dad was the worst person ever after my mom died. I guess I thought that if I did, he would probably realize he was being a jerk and stop... hitting me and all that.”
”I’m sorry.”
”YOU don’t have to be sorry. I shouldn’t have tried to pressure you into letting me see your arms. I shoulda been more understanding, I guess ya could say.” Natsuki said, fighting back the tears.
”No, it’s fine. I think... I think it’s about time I show you.” Yuri said, sitting next to Natsuki on the couch. She rolled up her sleeves and showed the love of her life the cuts she had amassed over the years. Natsuki ran her fingers gently over all of the marks, new and old, faded and fresh. She may not love the fact that Yuri did this, but she loved Yuri and therefore all of her.
That night, they spent cuddling up on the couch.
