That's Amore

Summary:

This was a well awaited day for Shadow the Hedgehog. He had done his research, even if it was a tad bit embarrassing. Shadow wasn’t the type of person to do this sort of thing either, but he had spent countless hours into research - not like he could back out of it now. Even if he could back out of it… it was for Sonic. Sonic was different from everyone else. There’s no way he could cancel a date with him.

Notes:

So, basically I'm doing an AU roleplay with a close friend where Sonic accidentally goes to the medieval era dimension and meets Knight version of Shadow, but he is also in a relationship with his own Shadow in his own dimension. If that makes sense.

Anyway, he was basically explaining his relationship to Knight Shadow about his Shadow and this was one of the memories. I just decided to turn it into a one-shot, 'cause why not.

Work Text:

This was a well awaited day for Shadow the Hedgehog. He had done his research, even if it was a tad bit embarrassing. Shadow wasn’t the type of person to do this sort of thing either, but he had spent countless hours into research - not like he could back out of it now. Even if he could back out of it… it was for Sonic. Sonic was different from everyone else. There’s no way he could cancel a date with him.

Sonic knew more about Shadow than Shadow would like to let him, but he never used anything against him. Sonic was a good person, not only just to Shadow. He was just a good person in general. He was the type of heroine to always see good in someone. Sonic was definitely not like Shadow; Shadow was known to be aggressive and not scared to do some damage. Sonic was quite the opposite, but all in the right ways. Hell, even Eggman was graced with the absolute generosity from Sonic despite trying to actually kill the hedgehog many times before.

That’s why Shadow wanted to make this date super perfect. He didn’t usually go out of his way to do anything romantic for the hedgehog. Usually, just being near Sonic seemed to make him happy, but Shadow thought Sonic deserved a little more. He was a dedicated man.

Pasta was apparently one of the most romantic foods to eat on a date, number seven according to some university website. It was spaghetti, to be exact, but he personally couldn’t stand red sauces, so he went with a simple chicken alfredo.

He was currently pulling the baked alfredo out of the oven when he heard a knock at his front door. He sat the pan down on the stovetop, pulled off the oven mitts one by one, and walked to the front door to open it.

He was faced with the prettiest hedgehog he’s ever seen.

“You’re a little early.” He stated in his usual cold tone, stepping to the side so the blue hedgehog could walk in, closing the door right after him. “I’m always rushin’ to see my Shadow.~” Sonic cooed, leaning to press a kiss to Shadow’s cheek. “It smells good, Shads. You makin’ dinner for us?”

“You could say that. It needs to cool down though. Have a seat in the living room; I’ll make us some plates.”

Sonic did as told, walking over to the living room and plopping down on the couch, getting comfortable as he waited.

He honestly didn’t expect Shadow to set up a real romantic date for them; he was completely fine with simple races and spending time together. However, it did make him a tad overjoyed that Shadow was trying. It meant he cared about Sonic… despite saying that he doesn’t all the time. Sonic knew he did; that’s why he was there now, making Sonic food and serving it to him.

A few minutes later, Sonic was kindly greeted by a plate in front of his face; Shadow sat down next to him after he took it.

“Thanks!” Sonic was the first to take a bite; Shadow waited just to check his reaction to it, but it seemed relatively positive, so he started to dig into his own plate. The two ate together, Sonic talking like usual. Just a variety of topics, asking Shadow about his day, talking about his own, or anything else that blue hedgehog could think of. Shadow didn’t mind, though; he wasn’t a chatty person. So sonic could just talk for the both of them.

Sonic was still eating when Shadow finished his plate, too distracted by talking. “So, what are we doing after this, Shads?” He shoved a forkful of noodles into his mouth, chewing slowly so he could listen to Shadow.

“You’ll see, now finish up eating.” He stood up with his plate, walking to the kitchen to clean up.

Now Sonic had to see what Shadow had in store for him. He quickly finished his plate, getting up to make his way to Shadow. He sat his dirty dish in the sink as Shadow washed the others.
“Sooo,” Sonic wrapped his arms around the hybrid’s waist, pulling himself close to his backside, “What’s next, babe? You can’t let me wait in anticipation forever.” He pouted his lips while his hands rubbed along Shadow’s front side. He was known to play with the male’s chest hair… he couldn’t help himself.

“You won’t have to wait forever, hedgehog. Patience is a virtue, something you obviously need to work on.” Shadow ignored Sonic, focusing on cleaning up the plates. He sat the clean dishes aside on the drying rack, grabbing Sonic’s dirty plate so he could clean it, finishing it up rather quickly. Shadow was soon turning the water off and drying his hands. Finally, he turned to the other hedgehog, wrapping his own hands around him. “Needy little rodent, go stand in the living room. I’ll be there.” He kissed Sonic’s head, smirking as Sonic laughed goofily and did as he was told once again.
Sonic was excited for whatever Shadow had in store for him. He was basically buzzing in place, rocking back and forth on his feet. But, of course, he couldn’t possibly know what Shadow had in store for him; they were quite the unpredictable pair.

Suddenly, soft music interrupted his thoughts. It sounded old, probably around the fifties or so. But it was a love song…

He was greeted by the hybrid wrapping his arms around the other; Shadow pulled him close in a hug. His hands making their way down to Sonic’s hips. Shadow rested his head on Sonic’s shoulder, wanting to keep him close but not wanting to expose the cherry red that dusted over his tan muzzle.

“Wanted to dance with you…” He muttered, feeling Sonic’s shoulders bounce in a soft laugh. “This is mostly swaying, Shads.”

Sonic was such a tease, but he was Shadow’s tease.

Shadow sighed deeply and pressed his lips to Sonic’s neck, kissing the area gently. “Then I just wanted to sway with you.” Shadow didn’t have much going for him when it came to talking, but it still got to the blue hedgehog.

Sonic’s eyes fluttered shut, head tilting to the side as he grinned. Shadow could probably just hold Sonic’s hand. He’d feel a million butterflies twist and twirl in his stomach, but pressing close like this and swaying together to some lovey-dovey old music? Holy hell, there had to be hummingbirds in the mix.

Sonic’s hands were on the nape of Shadow’s neck, petting over the area and through his quills. “When did you become such a romantic?”

Shadow huffed, keeping close to Sonic’s neck. His hands gently massaged blue hips as he waited to answer. He was not really waiting, but he wanted to think about his words before saying something. He was never the type to just say something.

Truthfully, though they’ve said it once before, it was still really hard for Shadow. He meant it wholeheartedly. Shadow wasn’t the type of person to open himself to being vulnerable. Sonic made him incredibly vulnerable. He needed a moment to collect himself; he wasn’t used to saying stuff so intimate. Eventually, Shadow pulled away to look over at Sonic. Those beautiful jade eyes now staring back at him.

Shadow was once again lost. He remembered when Sonic’s gaze didn’t have such an effect on him; back when Sonic was just stupid, clumsy, immature Sonic. Now, Sonic was brave, kind, and playful; even the earlier traits stated, Shadow didn’t think he could find them so attractive and charming.

Sonic was much more than what he used to think. He was glad to see that now.

Shadow’s hands tightened on his hips, and he sighed before finally speaking. “When I found out my emotion to describe you was love… That’s when I became such a romantic. You’re a rather lucky hedgehog. I’d never do this for anyone else.” He tried to keep his cold exposure, but the way Sonic softened at the word ‘love’, Shadow wanted to say it more to continue getting that reaction.
“Shads… You don’t have to do all of this stuff just to tell me that you love me.” Sonic’s voice was soft, sweet, and entirely out of character for the blue hedgehog. Shadow leaned in to press his lips against Sonic’s, giving him a quick kiss before he pulled away. “I don’t have to, but I want to. I love you, Sonic the Hedgehog.”

This caused Sonic to smile like a fool. “I love you too, Shads.”
