Chapter Text
Hermione Granger was almost a perfectly normal toddler. Almost.
Hermione Granger did all the things that a two-year old would be expected to do: walking, talking, reading. Lots of reading. Of course it was extremely light reading as compared to the books that Hermione would eventually be reading, but what else do you expect out of a two-year old. One thing that was not normal for a two-year old was that her eyes were still the same gray color that they were when she was born. While this was abnormal, Hermione's eyes were thoroughly checked multiple times and the Grangers were assured that there wasn't anything wrong with her eyes.
Hermione Granger had just finished up going trick-or-treating as the cutest R2-D2 droid. At least that is what her parents told her when they headed out to go trick-or-treating.
But at this point, Hermione only cared about two things. First, hiding all the candy that she got during the night. After all, her parents were both dentists, so they tried their best to make sure that she took care of her teeth. Hermione was grateful most of the time, but tonight was the one night of the year she could get candy. And despite how bad it was for your teeth, at least according to her parents, she loved candy. So she hid her candy away, and tried to make it last a good couple of months.
But the second thing that she wanted even more was to go to sleep. It had been a long night and the three of them had been walking for hours. Her feet were tired and she just wanted to sleep.
It didn't help that that was the night that she woke up screaming in the middle of the night. She had a dream where her parents were both killed before a green light enveloped her. Hermione's mom and dad immediately came upstairs and comforted her. She knew that it had been a nightmare, but that didn't seem to make it feel any less real.
If either of Hermione's parents could have gotten her to stop crying and look them in the eyes, they would have noticed that the color of her eyes had changed. One of her eyes was a chocolate brown that matched her father's eyes. However, her other eye was an emerald green, which in theory would have been impossible considering her mother had blue eyes.
Hermione would spend just under nine years of her life wondering why she had mismatched eyes, until one day she found her answer.
