Work Text:
Matt was currently attempting to make Gus lay down in his bed. “Lay down, you idiot!” he grunted, holding Gus’ shoulders down.
“But I don’t wanna!” Gus exclaimed, trying to sit up. He hacked violently in Matt’s face.
Matt should’ve probably gone home by now. Gus wasn’t well. But… for some reason, he was staying.
“You need to sleep!” he said.
“I’m not sleepy!” Gus immediately yawned after. He stopped fighting.
“Yes, you are,” sighed Matt, tucking him under his blankets. “And you need sleep. It’s the best thing for when you’re sick.”
Gus pouted. “I’m not sick.”
Matt decided not to argue with a sick Gus. “Sure you’re not.”
“I’m not,” Gus snapped, glaring up at…
“Gus, that’s a lamp,” Matt told him. “You’re delirious.”
Gus whipped his head toward his voice. “No! I’m thinking very clearly right now. My brain is so clear, it’s almost empty!” he exclaimed.
Matt snorted and grinned. “Uh huh.”
Then suddenly, Gus fell quiet, blinking up at him. “You got pretty hair, Matt,” he said.
Matt bristled. “It’s not pretty!” He wasn’t pretty, he was handsome. Extremely so!
“Yes, it is,” insisted Gus. “It’s all… wooooo.” He made a swirly gesture with his hand that just confused Matt. “And soft. I like it. Pretty.”
Again, Matt didn’t want to argue with a sick Gus, so, “Whatever…”
“And did you know that you got nice eyes?”
Matt blinked at that. His chest warmed at the way Gus was smiling at him wholeheartedly, dreamily. “No, I didn’t,” he mumbled.
“They’re nice,” Gus murmured, eyes hazy but happy, “just like the rest of you. And I really, really like you…”
Matt flushed.
Then Gus gasped. “We should get married!”
“What?”
“Yeah, like right now!”
“Gus—“
“I have vows! I forget where I wrote them, but I have them memorized. Dearest Matt, you are—“
“Stop!” Matt cried, face bright red.
Gus stared at him. “Why?”
“You idiot!” Matt barked, crossing his arms and averting his gaze. “…We’re too young, wait until we’re older,” he muttered.
Gus seemed to think about that. Then smiled. “Okay,” he said, and then fell asleep, dreaming of shrieking wedding bells.
