Chapter Text

“Are we almost there yet?” Anne heard from the backseat of her Mom's car. Anne looked into the rearview mirror and saw Sprig basically bouncing in his seat.
She chuckled lightly “Yes, just a block or two away now. And you need to calm down a bit,” she said a bit playfully.
“I know I’m just so excited for you to teach me how to roller skate, I don’t know why but I have the feeling that I'm going to be even better than you Anne.” Sprig said cockily.
“Pshh in your dreams, and besides I've been meaning to try these bad boys out” She patted the new box of roller-skates that were in the passenger seat.
Sprig made a few more lighthearted comments about how good he was going to be before Anne finally parked the car.
“Alright finally here Sprig, are you ready?” Anne asked the young boy.
“Um yep, Uh-huh,” He said back, clearly not listening. Anne looked into the back to find that he was rushing to take off his seatbelt as quickly as possible while also trying to open the door simultaneously. She chuckled before climbing out of the car herself.
Shutting the door behind her she walked over to Sprigs and opened it, he tumbled out of the car. “Calm down Bud, at the rate you're going, you'll be in the rink for about a minute before you feel too tired to go on.” She warned him.
He scoffed, “You underestimate how much energy I have, Anne.” He quickly stuck his tongue out at her. She shook her head at him with a smile.
“Alright then, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. Now let's get in there”
“Oh I thought you’d never say those words,” He said happily before grabbing her free hand while dragging her along.”
When they walked into the building Anne and Sprig walked up to the counter to rent roller skates. Sprig quickly told the man his size while Anne slid some money across the counter towards the man.
“Alright, little man, are you gonna want skates or blades,” he asked, looking down at Sprig.
“Skates,” Sprig said back to him with a huge smile.
“I’ll be over there,” Anne said to Sprig while pointing to a booth. “When you get your skates, come on over, and I'll start teaching you.”
Sprig nodded excitedly, probably not even listening. Anne smiled to herself before walking over to the booth, sliding into the seat she opened the box.
Looking inside she found her new light blue and white skates. They had dark purple laces and stripes along the sides. Slipping off her shoes she put on the skates and was lacing them up when Sprig came over. Once she finished putting on her skates she stood up and began testing her balance on them while waiting for Sprig.
“Alright, I'm ready let's go ahh-'' he yelled out as he lost his balance. Anne quickly put her arm under his and put him back upright making sure he had his balance. He kept his arms around throwing them in circles.
“Slow down there, I'm gonna tell you one thing before we start alright?” Sprig nodded “Okay then knew that it's okay to fall, everyone falls but the most important thing is to remember to get up. I see you fall, I'm going to give you three seconds to get up…and if you don't I'm going to start screaming and embarrass you.” Anne said with a small smirk.
“Oh shut it." He said.
“Second thing to keep in mind is to bend your knees, third thing move your feet in an oval shape, like this,” She demonstrated “Got it?” She asked him.
“...Um I think so,” he said back slowly.
Anne nodded “Alright let's get you to the rink first, skating on a carpet is way different than skating on a smooth surface,” she quickly explained. “I’m just going to pull you there so don't try what I just showed you.”
As Anne began walking Sprig latched onto one of Anne's arms using his other one to try and balance himself when in reality he was just flailing it wildly around. When Anne finally-after a slow process-got Sprig to the actual rink he felt a bit more confident on his feet. He let go of Anne and instead held his arms out in front of him.
“Need help there bud?” Anne asked as she saw Sprig just standing there.
“No, no I'm good just let me-” he stopped talking as he fell to the floor.
“Three seconds man, 1,2” Anne stopped counting as Sprig started to get up.
“Alright remember to bend your knees a little,” After a few more minutes and attempt after attempt he finally managed to push himself forward a bit.
He looked back at Anne with a huge smile “I did it, I did it!” he exclaimed.
“Good job!” She yelled back, happy for him “I’m going to have to get you something after this. Alright now, let's add a little bit more to that” Anne continued as she began skating around him. “This time-” feeling someone crash into her. “Oh-Jeez I'm so sorry,” she said as she got up and tried helping the other person up. They refused her help and looked at Anne angrily.
“You should be,” the scoffed out. The person in question had Blonde hair that was put in a ponytail-it was messy, probably due to the fall Anne thought. “You need to watch out where you're going,” The blonde said pointing an accusing finger at Anne.
“Gosh, I said I was sorry,” Anne said rubbing the back of her neck sheepishly. The girl quickly glared at Anne before skating away.
“What was her problem?” Anne heard Sprig ask behind her. Anne just shook her head and shrugged her shoulders.
“No idea, let's just continue, shall we?” She questioned. He nodded.

“I'm tired, I think I'm gonna sit out for a second.” Sprig said to Anne.
Anne smiled “Alright, I'm gonna stay out here if that's alright with you?” She asked him, he just nodded and began slowly making his way towards the exit. “Oh and you can buy some food, just grab some money out of my stuff!” She said to him, he just lifted his thumb trying to focus on not falling over. Anne chuckled to herself.
Skating around the rink she tried a few simple tricks. On one of her go-arounds when she heard someone.
“Hey, um girl with the cool blue skates.” She slowed down a bit “Yeah you.” turning towards the barrier. I saw a somewhat cute boy with brown hair and a small smile.
“Sorry this is gonna sound really creepy but I just saw you skating around and-I just I'm not good at this,” he laughed nervously. “Do you have a certain song you’d like to skate to? I’m the DJ so any song is on the table.” He finally managed to say.
She smiled at him “That’s really kind of you, there's this one song um it's called Killer Queen if you have it. Also, that's insanely cool, I mean having your whole job just listening to songs, sounds amazing.”
“Yeah yeah it's pretty cool,” He paused and just looked at Anne, she looked away from him and rubbed. “I’ll go get that song for you” He smirked at her before spinning around and walking away. Sure enough, after the current song ended Killer Queen started playing. Looking up at the DJ booth she saw the boy looking at her with a small smile.
The song was nice to dance around to. Once it ended she circled back around to the side of the rink where the boy first talked to her. Where looked down from his booth a few yards away he walked over.
“You sure got moves,” he said with a wink “Say are you free next weekend? I'm off work and-”
“She’s not,” Anne felt someone wrap their arms around her left arm. “She’s got a boyfriend” Anne looked in shock to find the mean blonde from earlier clinging to her. She looked pissed, more so than earlier that is.
The boy looked from Anne to the blonde before shaking his head and walking away. As soon as he got far enough away the girl slowly let go of her.
“What the hell is your problem with me?!” I yelled to the girl.
She growled, “Well first of all you should be thanking me.” She stated matter of factly.
“Why should I be thanking you!?”
“Multiple reasons. First of all, he's a major creep, second of all most girls that go out with him don't usually come back, and third of all if they do they always tend to avoid him” Anne looked at her.
“You’re not just saying that so you can get with him…right? I mean you hated my guts like a few minutes ago when I bumped into you soo…” Anne asked with an eyebrow raised.
“What? No! Of course not what kind of a monster do you think I am, we girls got to stick together.” She said back to Anne with a small smile.
“Well then in that case thank you…” She said pulling out the word.
“Sasha.” The girl said back merely.
“Anne,” She said back holding out her hand. The girl let out a huff of air before taking it. They both stood there for a minute awkwardly.
“I’m just gonna go,” Sasha said slowly.
Anne nodded her head “Yeah, yeah this is so awkward. Guess ill see you around then?” Anne asked.
“Maybe,” Sasha said before skating off. Skating towards the exit herself she shook her head, ‘what a weird girl’ Anne thought to herself.
