Work Text:
Lena was always sure of her life; she never really knew her life was taking her but she always knew she was on the right path. When she moved to the national city for her last year of high school, everything changed. In a new school, with new friends, and new territory she had to get to know everything all over again and she didn’t know where to start. The first week was pretty rough and then the second rolled around and she met someone named Kara. Kara was brunette with big hazel brown eyes and had the most amazing smile ever, she was almost like a golden retriever as a person. She saw that Lena needed a friend because she would always sit alone in the back of the class and one day she sat with her and they couldn’t stop talking about everything from movies to what’s going on in the real world and everything in between. They both saw something in each other that no one had ever seen before, but they could’ve put a finger on it. It was like a soul connection that they had that they’d been waiting to come in contact with.

Months later in their senior year of high school, Lena started to get into the swing of things and her best friend Kara recently figured out that she has powers given to her by her mother Alura. She was always told that by the time she turned 21 she would get these powers but they came sooner than later at the ripe age of 18. Lena helped her go through these shifts in her life and helped her make a name for herself and use her power for something good in this world. It was an understatement to say that Kara didn’t know how to control her powers, let alone use them but she tried harder and harder every day, and with the training, she got a bit better.
Lena had heard about a missing treasure that was supposed to be found and answered questions about all of the island's most wanted secrets that would save everyone. The island recently went under a massive depression and the resources have slowly been going away day by day month by month and no one has known how to fix it. She knew what she had to do, she was going to tell Kara all about it and they would surely find a way to find the treasure and save everyone, while also proving that Kara is a reliable hero in this world.
“Lee, I know we agreed on me going on this mission to find the treasure but I just can’t let you go with me. You know how dangerous this is going to be, and I hate to break this to you but you don’t have magical powers.” Lena knew this but she just wanted to go with her best friend, she wanted to make sure she was safe. Over the past year of getting to know Kara she had become completely protective of her and she didn't know how to let that go now that she was one of the world’s heroes. “Kar you know I can’t let you do that. I’ll be okay. I know self-defense and I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself without powers. Thank you very much.” Kara quickly shot back, “But Lee” Lena then cut her off by saying, “Do not fight me on this. I am going with you. End of story.” She knew she wouldn't win this fight even if she tried harder. That was one of the interesting things about their friendship, they would both do anything and everything for one another and protect each other till death do them part. And when one said they would be there, the other had to let it happen. Kara always had a hard time with this because she had never had someone care for her as much as Lena did. As soon as she entered her life she didn't know what to expect but she certainly wouldn’t have expected to feel this safe, loved, and supported by a best friend before.

At the Island where the treasure lay….
Both girls were in shock as they came upon the island. They had heard rumors before but they never suspected the end of Salesia to look like this. Their city was one of the luckier ones so their process of losing resources has been little by little but Ivery (where they were now) was almost in ruins. They knew this would be hard. Suddenly a voice appeared off into the distance and it was Lena’s older brother Lex who has always had a vendetta against Kara and her family the Calpurnians. Things couldn't get worse now, Lena knew how powerful her brother had accumulated over the years after spending months on creating an anecdote to give him powers so he could be as powerful as a Calpurnian. Kara was fuming with anger and her eyes were bloodshot with gold, she felt herself getting amped up when she felt the touch of warmth on her shoulder and she immediately went dim. Lena had to remind her that all her brother wanted was to see her this way, to fight back and get herself hurt in the process and she had to back down. Kara was supposed to be on one mission and one mission only and she couldn't let Lex destroy this opportunity for her to prove herself to Salesia. She knew where the treasure was and she knew that she had to find some sort of distraction to get past. It was almost as if Lena read her mind because in a fraction of a second Lena was running straight towards her brother and was using every ounce of her energy to defend herself, they fought and fought until Lena yelled at Kara to go to find the treasure, and she promised she would handle this. Kara trusted Lena, but she didn’t trust Lex and she doesn't know why something inside her just told her that Lena would be safe, but she didn’t want her to fight too hard to the point where she got hurt. She bolted forth and looked behind at Lena once and kept going. Time went on and she still hadn't been able to locate the treasure, she even used her x-ray vision, and still nothing. Then suddenly over the intercoms in her ear, she heard Lena yell about Lex having Taraxium which was the one thing that could kill Kara.
“Oh no, okay just don’t fight back Lee just stay put, I’ll come to get you. I just need to get the chest with the treasure and I’ll be on my way. He won’t hurt me, I won’t let him.” Kara said through her intercoms. “No promises about fighting back, I can’t lose you, I have to destroy the Taraxium,” said Lena.
Suddenly there was a loud explosion heard from a distance. Kara knew something had happened. The treasure was deep inside the crystal forest of Ivery and Kara didn’t know how much time she had before Lex had hurt Lena and she needed to find out what the loud noise was. She had to use a power she had never used before and even though it could be dangerous and put her life at risk, she was willing to risk everything for her. “Three, two,...” Kara teleported through the crystal forest, grabbed the treasure, and made it to Lena in under 10 seconds. When she got there she saw Lena standing over Lex’s body and they didn’t even say any words to each other. Kara just grabbed Lena and pulled her into the tightest hug that she could have ever imagined. When they were together it was like time stopped. Lena quickly realized that Kara had gotten to her at an alarmingly fast time and she knew she had never used this power before, and all she could do at that moment while being held in Kara’s arms was kiss her. “Kara, I love you.” She said, “I've loved you forever.” Lena responded. “Thank you for putting up with me and being there with me every step of the way I couldn’t have done it without you.” Kara aid. “Always.” responded Lena.
It was always an unspoken love they had for one another, but now they could finally let themselves truly be, and love each other…’always’.
