Summary
With the hangings parted, the moonlight shone in a shard of cold white against the sheets, broken only by moonshadows cast by the bamboo grove outside the window. These shadows cast themselves upon the silver-burnished skin of Lan Wangji’s back, light and dark shades of grey and black colouring the contours of pale skin, muscle and scar. Mouth open slightly, Wei Wuxian found himself reaching out towards those lines, tracing with wondering fingers the interlacing tangents of branch, leaf and scar. The pointed foliage, narrow and elegantly spaced along the thin stems, almost looked as if it was emerging from Lan Wangji’s skin itself, artful foliage camouflaging the trauma carved into his back.
Wei Wuxian is inspired to undertake some late-night body painting, using his willing human canvas (aka his husband).
