Chapter Text
“Vi!” The words of a girl broke Vi out of her trance.
“Have you heard who we’re playing against?” The girl spoke, she had blonde hair. Vi didn’t recognize her so she must have been new.
“Uh, who?” Vi said cluelessly.
Vi was in the locker room with multiple other girls. She had been sitting in her basic white button-up with black jeans. Luckily, this school didn’t have an everyday uniform so she could just wear whatever.
“We’re playing Piltover tomorrow! Get dressed, we have practice!” The girl spoke, almost bouncing with excitement.
Vi sat up from her position of having her chin rested on her hand. Now she was intrigued.
They had gotten a big announcement about how they were going to play against this ‘big team.’ Vi decided to tune everything out. Every ‘big team’ they went against were just standard wannabe big-shots with no real passion for the game. Team Zaun had beaten almost all of them. Vi was proud to be a part of this team, and a major part too. She was one of the star players. Vi loved the feeling of winning, but it wasn’t as exhilarating when she was winning easy games multiple times in a row.
But Piltover was different. They were one of the biggest teams in the state. With this, Vi might have an actual challenge.
Vi quickly got up. After feeling a little dizzy from the sudden rush of movement, she steadied herself and sprinted to her locker.
She eagerly put on her sports uniform and left the locker room with the others when the bell rang.
The day came. Everyone was instructed to get on the bus to go to the Piltover courts. Vi was hyped, she could barely keep the grin off her face. Finally a challenge. She thought as her knee bounced up and down.
“Did you hear? Piltover’s got some new player.” Vi overheard some girls talking a few feet away from her. She wasn’t concerned or anything, teams get new players all the time. But it was enough to grab her ear.
“She’s been topping the ranks! I heard she’s a star player now!” The girls spoke.
Vi found herself chuckling. Some prodigy she must be. Piltover was a team based on wealth. Everyone knew it, especially Vi and her team. Where Zaun was from, things weren’t all sunshine and rainbows. They had to work to get what they wanted, to be respected. For all Vi knew, this girl was just paying big bucks to have a shiny medal on her name.
The bus pulled to a stop. “C’mon girls! Let’s show 'em what we’re made of!”
The girls started rushing to get off the bus, Vi being one of the first ones off. Now Vi, being completely unable to quell her grin, ran towards the main area. She whistled at how fancy the court looked.
“Vi!” The coach shouted, running up to her.
Vi turned around with her lips pursed. “Yeah coach?”
“I know we haven’t been playing great teams lately, but this team is no ordinary play. Try not to get cocky, alright?” The coach said.
Despite Vi’s annoyance at her words, she smiled and reassured her that everything would be fine.
Vi turned back around to face the massive court around her. She wore a confident smile while looking over it all. This was gonna be fun.
