   Summary

   Much like the wonderous Jian bird, parasites cannot soar into the sky alone - they need another. Only then, are they complete as mesmerising machines known as Franxx and are able to protect the adults in the city. Raised with that as their sole purpose, children want nothing more than to be able to operate a Franxx with the person beside them that they can call a "partner". But not everybody manages to connect. Code 041, or Shuichi, as he was called among his teammates, knew this first-hand. Swollen by self-deprecation, he felt like an utter failure, but there was a gimpse of hope for him - due to the shortage of parasites, a new technology in the face of a robot has been developed to test whether a parasite is capable of connecting at all or not. But will Shuichi be able to connect with them?
