Work Text:
You were lonely, incredibly so. You were so touch starved and desperate for affection you hugged a pillow at night in an attempt to feel loved. You knew it was pathetic, you really did, but it was the only thing that made you feel comfortable, and not alone.
You’d had a rough day, an argument with a family member, an indignant customer at work, and your pillow, that you slept with every night, was still wet from washing it that morning, because you’d stupidly forgotten to dry it. Your chest hurt, ached, and you felt tears begin to stressfully spill over, pressing your face into your pillow, sobbing quietly. Your brain filled with self deprecating thoughts, how you weren’t good enough, how you deserved to suffer in silence.
“Please.” You sobbed to no one. “I don’t want to be alone anymore..”
You suddenly heard a thump, then a shuffle, and you froze. Fear shot icily through your body, dipping into your stomach and up your spine, the hairs on your neck standing on end.
“What was that?” You whispered.
You sat up when you heard a creek. The closet. You shivered, watching the door move slightly.
“H-hello.” Your voice shook as you called out weakly.
The door opened just a bit wider, and you jumped, terror gripping your body as you saw two soft white lights glowing from inside the closet.
“Wh-who, WHAT, a-a-are you?” Your voice didn’t want to work, but it seemed that whatever was in the closet couldn’t find theirs either, because the lights just shifted, as if its head was being cocked to the side. “Do.. D-do you know?”
You saw the lights move left and right, indicating it was shaking it’s head.
“Ooookay.” You felt yourself start to relax a little, but you were still anxious. “A-are you gonna h-hurt me?”
Again, it shook its head, and you breathed out a sigh of relief.
“Do you.. wanna come out?” You felt insane, asking some random creature in your closet to come out, but it looked cramped in there, and you were still kind of scared as it stared ominously out at you from the closet..
It didn’t respond, a moment passed by, then two, then three, before you saw the dark shadow of pitch black fingers curling around the edge of the white door. You tensed, and it paused, but you gestured gently for it to come out and it continued. What stepped out was… interesting, to say the least. A pitch black form emerged, those white lights doing nothing to illuminate the void before you.
“Hi.” You awkwardly waved. “I’m, uh.. I’m y/n…”
It lifted its hand, mimicking your movements before tilting its head again.
“Do you have a name?”
It shook its head.
“Well, how about I call you…” You paused, thinking. “Noir! How about that? It means black in French.”
It seemed to brighten at that, and you smiled, scooching over and patting your bed.
“Why don’t you sit down? I don’t know how long you’ve been standing, but you must be tired. It’s very late.”
Noir looked to where you had gestured on the bed, and slowly walked over-
‘Good lord they’re tall!’ You craned your neck up to look at it, even as it sat down you still had to look up pretty high, although less uncomfortably.
“I wonder how you got here…”
They made a small noise, something akin to a warble, and you jumped, causing them to flinch as well.
“Sorry! Sorrysorry!” You waved your hands. “I didn’t know you could make noise is all.”
They made another noise, as if amused, lifting their, rather large, hand and patting your shoulder. You blushed, looking away, and they warbled again. You felt the small tickle of something touching your hand, and you jerked your head over to look at them, their hand quickly retracting from yours. You smiled softly, reaching your hand out slowly to touch theirs.
They seemed happy, carefully using the tips of their fingers to play with yours. They were obviously curious, and you giggled as they kept touching your hand. It was warm, fuzzy, and light. It felt nice, different from anyone who you’d interacted with before, especially since you weren’t used to being touched. They opened your hand, pressing their palm to yours to compare sizes, and you folded your fingers between theirs. They let out another noise and did the same, swaying slightly.
You felt so strange, happy, but you also felt like you were taking advantage of the situation. You didn’t want to go too far and make them uncomfortable, so you pulled your hand back, and they tilted their head at you, confused.
“I-I’m sorry.” You apologized, and explained. “I don’t want to push for affection when I don’t even know if you know about intimacy.”
They let out another sound, a concerned one, and you couldn’t help but laugh at yourself, your eyes welling up with tears again.
“You shouldn’t worry about me. I don’t deserve it.” You looked down. “I’ve been alone for so long, I should be used to it by now.”
You felt their hands again, his time on your face, wiping away your tears.

“Wh-what?” You hadn’t expected that.
Their voice. It was so different, you could barely understand through the static. They made another staticky sound, as if clearing their throat, and placed their hand on their chest, the colors merging.
“̸̥̰̭͙̗̝̫̌͝A̴̡̛̖̯̙̒̀̽̊̕͝l̶̠̖̙̩̠͈̀̚͜o̸̡̥̗̳̖̜̜̅ṋ̸͈̦͇͔̼̠̂͘͝e̷̜͋̄͋.̷͍̞͙͇̿̈́̐̈́̎͘.̸̪̾̈́̀̍̈̓.̴̡̩̤͎͔̃͑́͛̌̕”̷̟̦̣̪͈̿̉̔͛̀̆̕
You your heart sink, it seemed that they were just as lonely as you were.
“I’m.. sorry.” You grabbed the hand that was still on your face, holding it gently. “All this time?”
Noir nodded, stroking your cheek with their thumb.
“You’re so soft..” You murmured, leaning into the touch. “And warm.”
When you realized what you’d said you flustered and looked away.

You blushed harder, and felt that same hand from before gently lifting up your chin. As you looked into the eyes of Noir, you could see the pain there, the loneliness, and if you felt alone you could only imagine how they felt.
”So cute…” You cupped their large face in your tiny (in comparison) hands.
They made a startled noise. You hadn’t meant to say that out loud!
“S-s-sorry!” You let go of their face and looked down again, red as a Fucking tomato.
After a minute you felt pressure on your shoulder, and you looked over to see Noir resting their head on your shoulder, eyes wider than before, like a puppy that wanted attention.
“D-did you want me to keep touching you?” You asked, unsure.
A frantic nod followed, and you let out a quiet ‘aww’ before petting their head, face and shoulder. They let out a purr, and you giggled, patting your lap.
“Here, lie your head here.”
Noir quickly complied, one long arm resting behind you, the other draped across your legs. You resumed your petting, the purring growing louder as the white lights disappeared, and you leaned forward slightly to see they’d closed their eyes.
“Comfortable?” You grinned, and they modded, gently.
This went on for a while, you just rubbing their back, and them immensely enjoying their first gentle touches. You yawned, and Noir’s eyes shot open as they looked up at you.
“̷̛͚̑̑͊̑̃͘ͅT̴̡̤̗̺͈̮̖̅̌͊̓̕ì̶̙̣̗͎͋̀̂̀̏͠r̶̘̺̈́̈́̈́̌͝ȩ̴̛̥̿̑̋̃͘d̶͚̻̯́͋̑̉̍͘?̶̡̨̥̭́́̎͑͐̈͠”̶̧̡͍͍͕̌̌͂̈̐̌
“No honey I’m fine.” You stifled another yawn.
You squeaked when they suddenly sat up, grabbing you and slowly sliding down into the sheets with you.
“̸̢̧̯̈́̉́͝͝͝T̵̡̤̤̟͇̈́́i̵̲̟͠r̴̜̓̈́͌̌͌̐e̸̬̹̤͐̓́̋̓͘͝d̵̞̤̪̘͘.̸̡̣̰͈̳͔͆͜͝”̸̡̞̐̊̀ Noir was adamant. “̶̨̨̰͔͍̬͒͂̃R̷̨͈̟̺͖̞̉̃̅̄̅̋̚͝e̸̼̟̙̭̻͔͚̠̱̦͆̎̃s̷̲̠͇̠̦̪̮̜̿͗̆͊͆̓̅̐̽̀̍̌̓͝t̷̛̼̳͚͈̯͎̙̰̣̖͂̈́̊́̓̍̋͊̈́̚ͅ.̸̡̨̼̲̮̪͕̘̟͈̑̀̈́́́̈̂̄̿͂̒͑̾͑͠”̸̪͔͎̐̈̉̆
They began to pet you as you’d pet them, running their fingers through your hair, and you sighed. Your cheeks were slightly flushed, but you leaned into the touch.
“Don’t have to.” You grumbled, and they never paused for a second while they thought.
“̴̖͍̹̪͎̫̮́S̶̡̡̥̟̜̙͛̚ä̴̫́m̷̪͓̲̓̊̄͋̾̓̑e̷͔͗̾̚.̸̪͍̅̓̇”̸̢̬̳͈̥̱̔͜ They concluded. “̶̰̮̤͒̈́̎F̶̡̣̩̟͊͑̚͜a̸͚͈͊i̷͉̾r̷̤͐͌́̉̚…̶͖̓͝ ̶̗͓̫̍̐͂L̸̜̺̬̙͔̼̣͑ỉ̵̙͙̩̟̠̪̬̈̉͑̊͝k̵̭̺̜̙̪̳̎̾̀̿͠ę̴͇͙̝͍̺̳̇̈͐͂̀ ̶̨̛̜͚̘̟͇͗͛̈̓̑͠t̶̪̯̭̫̺̖̯̅h̸̞̹͉̲̳̟̭͗͑̀̀͑͘͝ì̴̢̤͖̹̝s̵͈͓͙̘͐͘̕͝.̴̧̪͎̝͕̍̇͌̅͜”̶͙͋͑̈͂̈́̋̀
You pressed your face into their chest, they smelled like the smoke of a campfire, a gentle earthy smell that reminded you of when you were a kid. The kind memories of loving parents came flooding in as you began to drift, but you managed to mumble one last thing before you fell asleep.
“I’m glad we’re not alone anymore.”
