Work Text:

“Olka? Are you okay?”

She takes a deep breath. They were currently on an island off the coast of a country in the Western hemisphere after the rendezvous.

"I still can’t believe we're here...” she drifts off, clutching Gram in her arms tightly. “That we made it out alive.”

“I know… and it was all because of Mrs. Forger and their organization,” Zeb added.

”Yes,” Olka nods, closing her eyes. All because of Yor Forger, the Thorn Princess from Garden. “After all, the blood on her hands is the reason why my son is alive, and why the both of us are here, too.”

”Yeah...”

The silence enveloped them for an entire moment as she stared out into the exposed scenery that laid out in front of them. A peaceful and quiet life, something she had never expected, being the daughter of a gangster and all - yet it was something she had most desired after the rest of her family was killed.

"Do you think we'll see her again one day?" Olka asked in a manner which was frank yet quick, breaking the silence. Zeb gazes at her gently with pure disbelief. But his face relaxes as he faces the front, looking towards the land extended for thousands of miles.

Olka adds, “Ah, given the circumstances right now… probably not…”

He merely shrugs. Zeb knew the chances of them going back to Ostania, and it was a clear zero for them on returning. That is, if Hapoon, the leader that was after the Gretcher family were to be caught and killed by an unbelievable state.

"Who knows, really...” he started, “She was real scary, though!”

“She was,” Olka agrees. “But it’s her job, her way-of-life I supposed. She promised to give it her all in protecting us.”

He saw the way her expression narrowly dropped at the sudden remembrance, who knows if it was because of the life she had left behind in Ostania or if it was something else on her mind. Zeb took the opportunity to give her some hope. The chances were low, however it was certainly not impossible for them to see each other again.

”You know, we can ask her boss, once we settle in and it is safe to do so!” he commented, receiving a surprised expression from the latter. “Mrs. Forger’s boss are one of the higher-up’s in helping you and Gram escape, for sure this wouldn’t be the last time you’ll see her!” Zeb finished in an attempt to cheer her up. ”Before we left the ship, Director McMahon did mention the bosses were gonna work on tracking down Hapoon and everyone else working with him.”

“For now, just focus on settling in with Gram. You two have been through a lot…”

Olka gave him a genuine smile as she looks towards the ocean from where they came from nearly a month ago, arriving in a new country in search for peace.

"Without her... Gram and I couldn't have lived."

“I owe a great amount of debt to her if I ever have the chance to see her again. And Zeb?”

”H-Hm? Yeah?”

Her eyes slightly twinkles, as both tips of her mouth form a wide grin, the first she has ever shown ever since being here in the island. “Thank you… for everything.”

Zeb’s cheeks quickly blossoms into the shades of ruby, swiftly looking away for a brief moment. He was bemused for several moments before composing himself, returning his attention back to her with a small smile.

“Of course, Olka. And like I said before - I have more than enough reasons to be by your side.”

They had a long way to go from there, but that is the very start of their new life on the other side.

Notes:

too bad she was only there for the cruise arc; i’ve grown a liking towards her and honestly, i would’ve loved for them to get close if it weren’t for olka’s circumstances of escaping ostania. they would’ve been the best of friends, tbh.
