Work Header

You're me! I'm..you?

Summary:

So you rocked up to the daycare dressed in Sun's usual outfit, well, clothes that were meant to look like his. Imagine the look on his face when he sees you, pants, vest, ruffles, even a mask that matched his static faceplate. Especially when you had a little extra in your bag, for Moon of course.

Long story short, your cosplay gets very special attention from both the daycare attendants.

Notes:

Thank my beloved for this idea. Yeahhh I've been kinda dry recently but oh well, here I am now with another fic that'll take a week to finish :,D

just for shits and gigs imma put the date I started this: Sun, 29th May

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

You finished packing the extra clothes into your bag, before preparing your main outfit for the day.

Now, this wasn't a special occasion you were headed to, no, in fact it was the same as always. The only difference was what you had in your bag, and what you were planning on wearing to work today.

Your position as Daycare Attendant/Security Guard meant that you didn't have a particular outfit for work, just guidelines so that your clothes were appropriate. You had been working on this outfit for months now, a sewing project of sorts, cosplay even.

It was an outfit near identical to Sun's, though, with a shirt and vest added because, well, you were working with children. Ruffles for the neck and ankles, modified brown boots, even a mask you made in Sun's likeness. The boots were adorned with bells, as were the red scrunchies you were planning on wearing on your wrists.

With a smile, you finished packing away the surprise and sipped your cup of coffee. You sure were glad you had woken up early today, even if it wasn't the best circumstances, the outcome meant you had the time to properly prepare yourself. After adjusting your binder one last time, you dressed yourself and straightened out the creases in your costume.

You gave yourself a once-over in the mirror, whispering to yourself, "This is enough."

The car filled with your favourite tunes as you drove to work in an unusually happy mood, even with the chill of winter in the air.

For some odd reason the ride felt way shorter than usual. You grumbled as you parked, leaving half way through your favourite song.

A goofy smile plastered your face as you locked your car, your backpack looped over a shoulder. You clenched and unclenched your shaky hands as you hyped yourself up, a little stim you used to help calm your nerves. The jingling of the little serotonin bells gave you motivation to enter the Plex.

Well, that AND the cold, the cold definitely helped.

You made your way to the daycare with a jaunty skip, smiling at every exciteable child who recognised your outfit. Pride warmed your chest as you recalled the hell it took to make a good pattern for the damned jester pants, and the ruffles that could have saved whole days of work if you had just used a hot glue gun. Because you had gotten through all that. Great job, you!

The bells on your shoes jingled louder as you skipped every second stair on your way down to the daycare's wooden doors.

After peeking in through a window, you saw that there were a few kids who had arrived early, like you! Nerves started to pick away at you as you saw Sun running around. You took a deep breath as you ran your fingers down the grainy texture of the door, then raised your other hand to knock.

Knock knock knock-knock knock!

The sound of rapid thudding alerted you to Sun's arrival. He flung open the door and greeted you with a smile, practically buzzing with excitement.

"HEEELLLOOOOOO SUNSHINE! I heard you knocking and-"

He froze as he noticed your attire, his rays spinning around his head.

"Oh my! You're like a Mini-Me! Or would I be a Big-You?" He tapped his chin.

You giggled, taking his hand when he offered it and followed him inside. The little ones squealed when they saw that you were matching with Sun, you gave a bow as the small group crowded around you.

You were bombarded with questions from the curious kids.

"Where did you get those?"

"You look like Mr. Sun!"

"Mr. Y/N, you and Mr. Sun are twinsies!!"

"Can I get cool pants like that?"

"JINGLE THE BELLS CAN YOU JINGLE THE BELLS?"

You struggled to grasp half the words that were thrown at you, all the talking at once was a little overwhelming. Sun took it in stride, leading the children away from you and starting up a game of Hide and Seek.

After waving to the kids, you sat yourself behind the security desk, the quiet jingling of your shoes making you smile again. You placed your backpack beside the chair as you switched on the computer. You cycled through the cameras as you usually did, leaning back when nothing out of the ordinary came up.

Oh well, might as well sort out the upcoming reports. You cracked your knuckles and lost yourself in the computer screen, typing away as the sounds of the children faded into white noise.

A sharp tug at your sleeve made you flinch, looking down at the cause. You relaxed as you realised it was just a little girl, her vibrant blonde pigtails making you squint. She looked up at you with a big grin, a gap between her two front teeth reminded you of Sun.

You took in a breath as she pulled a mask over her face.. Your mask.

How the fuck did she get that?!

She laughed manically as she saw your shock, swaying side to side, similar to the sunny daycare attendant himself.

Okay, yeah, she really did look like Sun, but for fucks sake you need to get the mask back before she breaks it!

You held up your hands cautiously, gesturing towards the mask in her hold.

"H- hey kiddo.. That's, uh, that's mine, I would like that back if you don't mind."

"Don't call me kiddo! My name's Sadie, dummy!"

"Okay, okay. Sadie, please give me back my mask, it's very fragile and I don't want you to break it before I get to show Sun-"

"We can show Mr. Sun now!"

She bolted.

Fuck.

You leapt from your chair and made chase, at least the gym sessions helped your stamina. Sadly she was still metres ahead of you. You watched in horror as she made a beeline towards Sun, tightening the straps around her head.

Sadie halted right in front of Sun, stopping so abruptly you almost tripped over her. You doubled over, hands on your knees, panting and wheezing as you tried to talk.

"S-haah- jeez- phew.. can you- can you give it back now-?" Sadie stepped away when you reached towards the mask.

Sun turned around to look at you, then at little Sadie. You heard him gasp, but refused to look up at him.

"Oh my, what is that there, Sades? Golly, it's like looking in a mirror!"

"Hehe, I took Mr. Y/N's mask so I could show you!"

She took it off and gave it to Sun, who looked it up and down. You felt a little nervous as he fell silent, you were still too winded and scared to look up. A faint purring just barely rose over the sounds of the children playing.

You flinched when you felt one of Sun's hands cupping your chin, tilting your head up to see him. He was oddly quiet, though he didn't seem upset at all. If anything he seems amazed, maybe a little confused.

"...You made this?"

"Mhm, it was going to be part of the surprise, but I guess someone beat me to the punch." Your eyes flicked over to Sadie, before meeting with Sun's once more.

Sun chuckled. "Well I think it looks great, the detail you put into it is amazing!"

"Aw, th-thanks Sunny!"

The two of you leaned in closer, faces mere inches apart, then the sounds of the children made you jump back. You fidgeted with your sleeves, Sun seeming equally nervous as he traced the edges of the mask's rays.

He turned his attention to Sadie, putting on a stern tone as he remembered the situation.

"Now now Sadie, you know it's wrong to steal don't you? Very much against the rules, you should apologise to Mr. Y/N for taking the mask without his permission."

The little girl pouted. "Fiiiine. I'm sorry."

"For?"

"UGH. I'm sorry for taking your mask."

"That's better." Sun sighed, "You're lucky you've been good this morning. Go along now, play with the others."

Sadie ran into one of the play structures, likely trying to find one of her friends. You and Sun stood awkwardly, groups of children playing all around you. He suddenly turned back to look at you and you flushed, crossing your arms over your chest.

At least there was noise, even if it was the overwhelming sound of the kids' screams, otherwise you'd be left in an uncomfortable silence. You drummed your fingertips against your arms as you waited for him to speak, which he finally did.

"So uhm- could you- maybe put it on?"

You chuckled nervously. "Sure, why not."

He handed you the mask cautiously, as if it were made of glass. You had made sure to reinforce it in its production, but you didn't want to embarrass him for being overly cautious by sharing that information.

Once the mask was back in your hands, you quickly put it on and fastened the straps around your head. You peered up at Sun through the eyeholes, intently watching for a reaction.

Sun's rays spun slowly as he looked you over, the mask fitting the costume perfectly. In response you grabbed one of the mask's rays, spinning them. You smiled under the mask as you saw Sun's awed expression.

He flapped his hands, bells jingling at the movement. You copied that movement too, Sun's happy noises warming your heart. You kept on copying his cute mannerisms, excitement bubbling with each of his excited reactions.

You cupped his cheeks in your hands and pressed the face of your mask to his, mimicking a kiss. His cheeks heated up under your hands, blushing madly as you pulled away. You pushed the mask off your face, laughing at his flustering.

"Alright Sunnybunny, I'm going back to the desk, have fun with the little ones!"

"Ah- y-yessir!"

You giggled as you walked over to the security desk, your mask now tucked under your arm. Zipping up your backpack, you made sure you'd keep a close eye on it to make sure your beloved mask wouldn't be taken again. You sat back in your chair, stretching out your back before returning to work.

The daycare music started to get quieter, signalling naptime. You looked up to see Sun rushing to collect blankets and pillows, so you went to help round up the children.

With the help of Sadie you settled the younger ones, tucking each of them in with care. Sun gave each of the kids plushes and a Moondrop each, while you ducked away to change, shutting off the lights as you left.

Phase 2 of the surprise is ready.

You rushed into the men's restroom, ignoring the confused looks as you locked yourself in a free stall. You only had about ten minutes until Moon realised you hadn't just gone to lunch, and you didn't want him to come looking for you.

The stall was fairly small, barely giving you any wiggle room. But you were used to changing in it, especially for the sudden sleepovers. You undressed quickly, careful to not bump your elbows against the walls.

Starting with the bottoms, you redressed in your new attire: Starry jester pants, the same white button-up shirt but with a half-white-half-navy-blue vest, long fingerless gloves that covered your arms in a white to blue gradient, and a deep blue nightcap covered in stars, a bulky golden bell at the end of it.

Brushing your fingers through the fur at the rim of the nightcap, you calmed your breathing and stuffed the Sun outfit into your bag, before stepping out of the stall. You found yourself staring into the wide eyes of a little kid and his father, you gave a shy smile and wave before leaving.

You made your way to the daycare, taking a minute or two to eat the sandwich you packed. Your bag hung heavy on your shoulder as you peered in through the windows, unable to spot the red glow of Moon's LEDs.

As you stepped through the door, you heard a lullaby coming from Moon's music box. You pulled the Moon mask out of your bag and put it on, dropping your bag by the security desk. You switched on the lights in the eyes of the mask so you could see a little better, starting to make your way around the sleeping children.

By now Sun had left, leaving Moon to watch over the sleeping children.

They were two different animatronics, yes, but they were always active at different times. Even though the daycare had become more popular since they were split, the techs apparently felt the need to downgrade their batteries. Perhaps to encourage teamwork between the two, perhaps just to cut costs, either way, they had to constantly swap so that they could charge effectively.

Speaking of Moon, you finally caught sight of him up on top of a little tower. He jumped down and landed in front of you, squinting as he stared at you. You rested your hands in your pockets and stared back.

"This is new.."

You chuckled nervously. "Eheh.. Surprise!"

"Quite a surprise indeed... Now, what prompted you to dress like this?"

"I- I don't know, just wanted to?"

"Hmmm. Sun never told me you dressed up today."

"Musta been tired." You shrugged. "So, how were the little ones while I was out?"

"There was a bit of resistance, but we know how to deal with them."

The quiet sound of rustling caught your attention. You whipped your head around to search for the cause of the sound. Just as you suspected, one of the little tykes was waking up.

You rushed to their side as they rolled over onto their back, Moon following close behind. Under the glow of the mask's lights, you recognised the little one. Briar's eyes cracked open as she stirred, glaring at you as she adjusted to the dark surroundings.

She rubbed her eyes, dark bob cut hair and bangs framing her pale face.

"M..Moony..?"

You chuckled attempting to mimick his voice when you answered, "Shhh, it's past your bedtime little one."

...

You were never good at impressions, but maybe it would work?

Who are you kidding, no it wouldn't.

And it didn't.

Briar scowled as she looked at you again, reaching up to touch the edge of your mask.

"You're not Mr. Moony. Where is he?"

"Ach, darn, ya got me. It's Mr. Y/N, though it doesn't change the fact that you should be sleeping." You put a hand on her shoulder. "So how come you're awake?"

"...Nightmare. Big scary shadows.. I wan' Moonyy."

"Oh dear. Well I'm not Moony, but I think I can help. I'll sit right here and keep a lookout for you, scare away all the monsters, sound good?"

"That's Moony's job."

You smiled. "Yeah, but I can do this job too, while Moon watches over everyone else. I'll be here, won't leave your side, promise!"

"..Okay. Don't leave me, if you leave me I'll tell my momma on you!"

"Don't worry dear, I won't leave."

She stared at you for a few moments before slowly lying back down, tugging her blanket up to her chin. You did as you promised, sitting quietly beside her. Briar rolled onto her side, tiny hand grabbing yours as she faced you. You glanced around, glad that your mini conversation did wake any of the other kids.

You listened as her breathing slowed, her grip on your hand loosening. She was falling asleep again, finally. You stayed still as to not wake her again, letting her fall deeper into sleep before you'd pull away.

Grabbing a spare plushie, you slipped it under her outstretched arm before you pulled your hand away. You watched her for another moment or two before you stood up, praying that the bells on your outfit didn't alert any of the others. Gods, you had no clue how Sunny and Moony moved so much but were somehow STILL able to sneak up on you without you hearing the ringing of their bells.

You caught Moon staring as you stepped away from little Briar, if only you knew the thoughts running through his head.

Briar was a favourite of Moon's, like Sadie to Sun. When he saw how well you handled putting her back to sleep, he couldn't help but imagine you taking care of one of his own, oh how he wanted to see you carrying his or Sun's own little star.

He put a hand on the top of your head, scruffing up your hair as he looked down at you.

"You did so well, she never goes to sleep properly unless I'm there. You really have the touch."

"Heh, thanks Moony. I'm used to taking care of kids, from my cousins to the little ones here," You scratched the back of your neck. "Just not really used to naptime yet."

Moon scooped you up in his arms, balancing you on his hip as he climbed up the tower. He sat you down, cuddling up beside you as he held your hand. You took off your mask and sat it beside you, cuddling up to Moon's chest. The smell of lavender emanating from him made your eyelids feel heavy.

You looked up at Moon. "Will I be able to stay tonight?"

"Oh, definitely~"

"Make sure to wake me up before Sun comes back, I wanna be awake for the end of my shift for once."

"Of course, my dear." Moon whispered, snickering.

He leaned back as he pulled you into his lap, letting you rest your head on his warm chest. You always loved his and Sun's cuddless, they always warmed up to give the best hugs, or maybe you were just touch starved. Oh well, you were having the time of your life.

You groaned as you stretched your back, sprawled out over Moon's front. He rubbed your back, digging his fingers into the sore parts of your spine oh so nicely, his music box playing a soft tune, just for you.

Fatigue started to wash over you, your eyes shut, sleep threatening to take you. You looked up at Moon again, blushing from the lovestruck look painting his face. He cupped your face in his hands as you leaned in to kiss him.

It felt like lightning had struck inside your lips met, soft and sweet. Moon's hands moved, one resting on your nightcap while the other looped over your shoulders. You propped yourself up on your elbows, pulling away to press chaste kisses to Moon's cheeks.

You stared into Moon's face again when you stopped kissing him, only catching a glimpse of the hearts in his eyes and the blush dusting his cheeks before he slapped a hand over your eyes.

"A-alright, Starlight. That's enough, n-now it's time for you to rest."

"Sure, sure."

With a sigh, you dropped back down onto Moon's chest. You wrapped your arms and legs around him like a koala, nuzzling into his shoulder. Moon draped his arms over you, rubbing the same shapes into your back and sides.

You closed your eyes, soon feeling weightless as sleep finally took you.

Your eyes peeked open, squinting at the brightness of the lights. The lights were on? You- you were moving, or rather, you were being carried.

You looked up and your eyes met Sun's. He beamed down at you, his quiet chuckle drowned out by the sounds of screaming children.

"Ah, you're finally awake!"

"You- what- where is my-"

"Calm down, gosh Sunflower. Your mask is tucked away safe in your bag, Moony didn't want to wake you so I've just been holding ya like a baby!"

"Gah- Sunnyyy-"

You pulled the fluffy rim of your nightcap over your eyes as your face flushed. Sun laughed even louder as he continued walking, conversing with some of the children who approached him.

He eventually sat you down on the edge of the security desk, caging you in with his long arms.

"Say.. I sure haven't seen this outfit before, neither did the little ones. They got so excited that you looked like good ol' Mr. Moon, to be honest I got a little excited myself."

You sighed. "At least I got some sleep."

"Lucky you." Sun booped your nose, then leaned in to kiss your cheek. "Now, iiif you'll excuse me, I must go tend to the children, see ya after hours!~"

He skipped away, leaving you a blushing mess. You anxiously swung your legs, rubbing at your sore eyes and- were you drooling? Stuttering, you wiped your mouth with a sleeve. God, you haven't drooled in your sleep since you were five, so damn embarrassing.

You reluctantly slid off the desk, stepping behind it and finding your seat. You didn't want to just stare at Sun, but you had nothing better to do, so you chose to distract yourself by scrolling through social media.

Funnily enough, there were a few others who were a little too into the animatronics, especially Freddy, for some reason. You only really thought of him as a father figure, but somewhat understood the appeal. And gosh, the fanart people drew of Monty, maybe the internet wasn't the best distraction.

Groaning, you opted to shut off your phone and just rest your head against the desk, trying to get a little more sleep before your impromptu sleepover with the boys. You had a feeling you wouldn't get much time to sleep later on.

The moment the last kid had been picked up, you could feel Sun looming over you. You smiled, looking up when he rested a hand on your shoulder.

"You ready for the sleepover?"

"Ready as I'll ever be." You chirped, grabbing your bag as you left your seat.

Sun clapped his hands. "Oh goody! I think I'm due a charge, we should head back to our room dontcha think? Moony'll sure be happy to see you!"

You reached your arms up, allowing Sun to pick you up. He patted your back gently as he connected himself to the cable rig, taking you up to the balcony. You held on tightly, not daring to look down as your stomach churned. You were never going to get used to the heights.

He transferred you into Moon's arms the moment he landed, plugging himself in to charge. You were soon sat on the nest of pillows and blankets, Sun and Moon each taking a side, purring as they cuddled up to you.

Their linked hands rested in your lap, you could feel the warmth and love the three of you shared, warm and comforting. When did your cheeks start feeling so hot?

"Sooo, what are we doing now?"

Sun hummed, "Movie?"

"That sounds nice."

"Any ones in mind?"

"Nope!"

With a sigh, you pulled out your phone and opened Netflix. "Just pick one and we can watch it."

Sun squeaked as you handed him the device. He and Moon looked through the available flicks.

They soon picked one that interested them and propped up the phone so you all could watch, snuggling closer together in a big cuddle pile.

Moon wrapped you all in blankets, though the warmth coming from him and Sun was more than enough to save you from the cold.

The movie was soon forgotten as the three of you focused more on each other's company.
