Work Text:
yesterday, robin and nancy had hung out with eleven and max. max was recently sick, but it was just a little cold. she was still recovering when they hung out and eleven tried to stop her from going over as well but, max wanted to see them. their relationship was fairly new, eleven asking max out a little less than a month ago and she felt a connection with robin, her lesbianism that is.
so, all 4 of them hung out while mike, dustin, lucas and will went to the movies with the hellfire club. it felt nice for robin, to have a connection with someone like that, especially someone she viewed as her younger sister. nancy also enjoyed that connection, knowing someone she also viewed as a younger sister being bisexual. it made her feel not alone, made her feel closer to el.
they were all having a good time, just talking about things. life. they turned on a movie and robin laid on nancy’s shoulder while max held eleven. robin sat up to take a sip of her soda, but it was actually max’s cup. she didn’t say anything but she hoped she didn’t get sick.
they said their goodbyes to the younger couple, watched them as they rode their bikes down the road. they both walked inside the wheelers house, glad for the silence. mike would be spending the night with everyone else at dustin’s house and nancy’s parents were out for the weekend. it was their anniversary and it was nice to see them getting out, they took holly though.
robin wanted to make dinner with nancy but her throat felt so scratchy. she knew what it was from, but forgot she didn’t say anything. she cleared her throat and nancy turned around.
“you okay, love?”
“… i have something to tell you.”
nancy got a little scared, she’s not gonna lie. but with robin’s body language, she could tell it wasn’t deadly serious. she just was scared of something.
“okay. what is it?”
“i accidentally.. i accidentally drank from max’s cup and now i think i’m sick.”
nancy couldn’t help but laugh, she was so dramatic for no reason but it was so adorable.
“it’s okay robbie, i can take care of you this weekend.”
“but i wanted to do something funnnnn.” robin said so sulkily.
“do you want to stay sick?”
“… no.”
“do you want to have fun next weekend?”
“… yes.”
“then let me take care of you, love.”
robin smiled and surrendered.
“okay.”
nancy kissed her cheek and brushed her hair back. “oh, you feel warm already.”
robin groaned exaggeratedly and flopped against the couch.
“let me make you some soup, you should go shower.”
robin sat up dramatically and dragged her feet as she headed for the stairs. she had brought her clothes for the weekend and nancy was always open to her using her shower.
as she was walking up the stairs, she sneezed. a lot. nancy heard her and started giggling as she was taking out a pot.
“ITS NOT FUNNY WHEELER.” robin yelled as she coughed very harshly after.
“whatever you say buckley…” nancy mumbled as she was still giggling.
nancy heard the shower start up so she started her soup. she made tomato soup and a grilled cheese, one of robin’s comfort foods. it was fairly easy and she’s glad robin liked these simple things.
she waited until she heard the shower turn off the start the grilled cheese, she knew robin took forever to get dressed for whatever reason.
once robin was walking down the stairs, she plated her food and put it on the table, following it with a glass of iced water.
robin’s eyes lit up as she saw the food and walked over to hug nancy.
“thank you, nance.” she said with the biggest grin on her face and nancy kissed her cheek. she loves this dork so much.
“no problem, now eat up before it gets cold.”
robin did as she said and sat down to eat her food. it was a really good soup, good enough for her to strain her throat to let out the most exaggerated hum nancy had ever heard.
“mmmmmmm, this is SO good nance.” robin said with a mouthful.
nancy turned around laughing and looked at robin.
“yeah?”
“mhm.”
she walked over and kissed the top of her head.
“im glad you like it robbie.”
she turned on the radio and just listened to the music as she made herself a serving too.
once she was done, she sat down in front of robin and the two ate in a comfortable silence. the only noise being the music in the background and their spoons clanking in their bowls.
nancy and robin finished at the same time, robin being a slow eater.
nancy got up to take their dishes and pack the soup as robin laid down on the couch. she was watching tv, on the verge of falling asleep. nancy stroked her hair and woke her up a bit.
“robbie, come to bed.” she whispered.
“hmm okay.” robin hummed and rubbed her sleepy eyes. nancy took the lead upstairs, holding her hand and leading her up to her room.
“lay here, i’m gonna get ready for bed.” nancy said as she kissed her cheeks. robin smiled and nodded her head sleepily.
“wait, lemme brush my teeth.” robin said. nancy let her and secretly watched her sleepily brush her teeth, her movements sluggish and her eyes very, very droopy. robin finished up and laid back down and let nancy do what she needed.
she heard the shower running and fell asleep to it, white noise always making her sleepy and being sick didn’t help. she didn’t even awaken when the door opened, but nancy didn’t mind.
she brushed her teeth and hair quietly as robin slept soundly. she didn’t want to risk waking robin up so she tried to leave quietly, but it didn’t work.
robin woke up and she saw nancy walking out the door.
“noo, stay.” she said sleepily. nancy barely even heard her.
nancy wasn’t gonna deny her sweet, adorable, soft girlfriend’s easy request. she smiled and laid back in bed with robin. robin nuzzled into her neck like she always did.
she fell asleep to nancy stroking her hair and tucking it behind her ear. she leaned down and whispered in her ear before falling asleep.
“i love you.”
robin smiled and snuggled closer into her.
“i love you too.”
maybe being sick wasn’t so bad. as long as nancy was the one taking care of her.
