Work Text:

It's sleepover night tonight, so you're waiting for Gin to return from the kitchen before watching one of those American superhero movies with him. You take a look around his bedroom, which happens to be a controlled mess at the moment: shoe boxes stacked haphazardly on top of each other against the wall, spare uniform blazers and shirts piled up next to the basket of clean laundry that just needs folding and putting away, loose notes and assorted homework assignments scattered across his desk. The only meticulously organized area is his bookshelf full of comic books he's already finished reading, neatly arranged by series and volume. All in all, the room is very much lived in and unmistakably his.

He saunters in shortly after your appraisal, carrying a bowl full of fresh popcorn whilst cradling two cans of Tropical Nudge in his other arm. Setting the bowl down on the low table, he slides in next to you and leans back against the side of his bed before handing you your drink. The both of you crack open the tabs at the same time and clink your cans together in cheers.

"Found something you were interested in?" Gin asks, nursing his drink. It's an old habit from his casual drinking tendencies in reality, which you can't help but find a little charming. "I've just about watched everything here a million times so I can recommend something if you can't decide."

You fake a scoff. "What, do I look like Shota to you?" You both know it's probably a mean jab at the upperclassman but Gin laughs despite himself. "How about Spiderman: Into The Spider-Verse? I haven't had the chance to watch it yet."

"Dude, for real?" His eyes sparkle with unbridled excitement. "You've been missing out on so much, let's fix that right now."

You mess with the remote and start the movie, turning up the volume just a bit to really immerse yourself in it. The opening cinematics grab your full attention immediately. Gin's right; you have been missing out by not watching this sooner. The animation, the story, the soundtrack… you're completely transfixed to the screen as the movie keeps playing and don't notice the popcorn's finished until your fingers brush the bottom of the oily bowl.

Gin chuckles, "Oh wow, I didn't expect you to go through it that fast."

"Sorry, I didn't mean to!" you apologize.

He waves you off nonchalantly. "Go ahead and keep watching, I'll put that in the sink and get us some water."

Gin takes one last swig of his Tropical Nudge before standing up and whisking the empty bowl away. You use the lull in action to go over to his desk real fast and pump some hand sanitizer into your open palm, rubbing it in until it dries. Once you're back at the low table, you grab one of the cans of fruit punch and raise it to your lips.

… That's funny, you could have sworn that there was a little more left in there to drink.

… Oh.

Oh no.

The tab on this can was pressed back down at an angle. Yours wasn't pressed down all the way.

You accidentally drank from his can.

You quickly put his Tropical Nudge back on the table and cover your mouth to start screaming silently. He's been drinking from that can this entire time and you, in all of your carelessness, stole a sip. How could you be so irresponsible? How could you jeopardize his faith in you? You absolute sick freak. You just—

"Hey, are you okay?" Gin's giving you a funny look from the doorway. "Are you feeling sick all of a sudden?"

"Haha don't worry, I'm totally fine!" you lie as your brain starts imploding.

He frowns as he makes his way back to your side, setting the bottles next to the soda. You lower your hands as he presses his wrist against your forehead.

"... It doesn't seem like you have a fever, but your face is red and you're shaking," he notes aloud. "Do you need to take a shower or something?"

"I'll be okay! Just, the movie's got me sweating in anticipation, y'know?"

"If you're sure," Gin sighs. He doesn't believe you but makes himself comfortable anyway as you focus back on the movie. You were so distracted that you missed out on some of it, but you're quick to pick up the gist of it again. Out of the corner of your eye, you see him grab his Tropical Nudge and—

"NO!"

It's already too late. The poor boy jumps when you yell, causing some of the fruit punch to drip down his chin. He's still holding the can but wipes the soda off with his other hand. "Dude, the hell was that for?"

"I—I uh…!" You're stuttering. Your life is over. If you didn't have a good reason to be in Redo before, you do now.

Gin attempts to take another sip, furrowing his brows when it's empty. "... I thought there was more in here."

"I… I drank it!" You cover your face again, feeling shameful after confessing your sins. "It was an accident, I swear!"

Silence.

"I'm so sorry, Gin," you openly weep. "I wasn't paying attention, and when I realized it, it was too late… and…"

Still no reply.

You dare peek through your fingers to see Gin's face a little flushed, the tips of his ears just slightly red as well. He seems more embarrassed than angry at the very least. You vaguely register that the movie is still playing on the screen, but neither of you grabs the remote to pause it. By this point you're going to need to re-watch it from the start.

Gin sets down the now-empty can to rub his forehead. He's muttering something under his breath, still blushing, as you do nothing but sit there and wait for your punishment. Eventually he meets your eyes. There's a complicated mixture of emotions there you can't quite distinguish. Perhaps he's forgiven you? You involuntarily flinch when he reaches his hand out, holding your breath as he grabs your Tropical Nudge and…

Drinks it.

"What are you doing!?" you squeak in surprise.

Gin's face remains as red as ever. "You had some of mine, so I'm having the rest of yours. Fair's fair."

You're dead at this point. There's no way you're recovering from this, ever.
