Work Text:

All was quiet except for the random flurry of keys clacking on a laptop. The lights in the Avengers common room were off, a dim light visible through the archway into the massive, attached kitchen. In between the harried clacks, pages flipped overly loud in the main floor.

Bucky’s shoe clad feet glided over the floor silently. He brushed the last vestiges of sleep out of his eyes. While the light was dim it still took the super soldiers eyes a second to adjust to it in the kitchen. Several massive books lay open and sprawled across the counter of the island. Everything that normally belonged there was shoved haphazardly on the counter next to the sink.

A brown, curly haired boy, hair mussed in outrageous tufts hunched over the books and laptop. He wore a fuzzy, bright pink footy pajama set.

Blinking owlishly, Bucky stared in open amazement before asking, “What’re you doin’, kid?”

The teen jumped, books and paper scattered as his body went straight upward where he stuck to the ceiling. A large squawk erupted from his small frame.

Surprised, Bucky’s laughter was loud and unexpected in the otherwise slightly eerie quiet. Quickly he forced down the laughter.

Peter’s eyes were wide, his cheeks a ghostly white and his breaths were quick pants of air.

Bucky’s sensitive hearing allowed him to hear the teens heart beating rapidly. He sighed, demeaner softening slightly. He spoke in a soft, gentle whisper. “Sorry bud. You’re okay, c’mon down.”

Several long seconds later, Peter dropped to the floor in a clumsy attempt at landing in his usual semi squat, hand between his legs to steady himself. His breath continued in fast pants.

“Can I touch you?” Bucky asked crouching low.

Peter nodded shakily. Bucky reached out and gently grasped Peter’s hand in his own. Peter’s hand tightened in Bucky’s, squeezing tightly.

The teens body slowly relaxed, and he slumped forward into Bucky’s space. He pushed his forehead against Bucky’s shoulder, nuzzling slightly. Eventually the super soldier maneuvered himself and Peter to stand and helped him back to the island to sit down.

“Alright, pal?” Bucky asked.

Peter nodded. “Yeah, sorry ‘bout that, Uncle Bucky.”

“I didn’t think I’d scare you. That sense of yours doesn’t let anyone sneak up on you.” Bucky’s voice held a thin layer of amusement.

“Usually it doesn’t,” Peter agreed. “But it doesn’t work when it’s family, not the way it does any other time. It’s like my trust in family turns off my Spidey-Sense.”

“That’s kinda weird.” Bucky announced.

“You aren’t wrong,” Peter chuckled. “So, yeah. You caught me off guard and I guess I overreacted.”

Bucky tousled Peter’s already crazy hair. “What’re you working on, bud?”

The teen sheepishly glanced at the clock on the wall. “I have a report due in a week about John F. Kennedy and his assassination and the history books are dumb, and I can’t believe anything on the internet. I mean the conspiracy theories are insane!”

Bucky’s brain couldn’t begin to process anything Peter was saying. Peter didn’t notice, his voice got a little louder and more passionate. “One theory is that Woody Harrelson’s dad was the shooter, which is just insane, like what the heck, dude?! Another one is that the CIA was involved in the assassination! Or the Illuminati, which, okay, I can get behind that one. The Illuminati is totally real. There’s no doubt at all about that. Or, or, Uncle Bucky, here’s the best one. It was aliens.”

“Aliens are real.” Bucky spoke after several moments of stunned silence. “Thor’s technically an alien.”

“Well, I mean, yeah. But why would they assassinate the president? That’s stupid. Killing JFK does absolutely nothing to help gain any sort of domination. I mean, look. They’d be better off forging a full-scale invasion across the entire world. Or going after the United Nations first and then taking over the world that way.”

Realizing that his nephew was gearing up for a long-winded rant, Bucky quickly cut him off with a hand over Peter’s mouth. He moved his hand away as soon as Peter stopped talking. “First off, you have spent WAY too much time thinking about world domination. Secondly, I may know a thing or two about JFK’s assassination.”

“Wait, you do? ALSO! I’m a teenage vigilante, do you know how often these villains rant about their domination plans? It’s stupid! I spend a LOT of time thinking about where they messed up. Like, why do they spill the beans on their plans before they accomplish it? That’s basically jinxing it?!”

“How much caffeine have you had?” Bucky rubbed at his temples.

“Three Red Bulls and two of dads fancy coffees.”

“I’m gonna pretend I didn’t hear you say that.” Bucky held up his metal hand, hushing Peter. “I ain’t dealing with your dads cause your up at 3 am drinking caffeine and spazzing out. I thought Steve was a punk, but you’re taking the cake, kid. No wonder Tony’s going gray.”

“First, rude. Second, double rude.”

“Look, bud, you need to go to bed. I’ll help you with your project tomorrow, after you’ve had a minimum of 8 hours of sleep. And way less caffeine.”

“You’re sending dad vibes, can you not?” Peter asked, smirking.

Bucky’s eyes rolled to the back of his head in exasperation. “Bed, punk.”

Peter sat at his desk in US History class, foot tapping persistently on the floor. History, his first class of the day, wasn’t due to start for another 5 minutes. His best friend, Ned, sat at his desk to Peters right. Ned tossed a ball point pen at Peter. “What, dude? I’m excited about my report.”

Ned laughed, “You’re such a nerd.”

MJ threw her messenger bag on the floor with a loud thump as she slid into her seat on Peter’s left. “What’s up nerds?”

Ned leaned over and nudged Peter’s shoulder. “See, even MJ agrees.”

“That doesn’t count, Ned. She always calls us nerds. I’m just excited to present my report, trust me dude, your mind is gonna be blown.”

“Isn’t your report on JFK’s assassination?” Ned asked, confused. “That’s so boring.”

“Actually,” MJ cut in, “The conspiracy theories alone make JFK one of the most interesting presidents of the US.”

“Right?” Peter’s voice rose with his excitement. “How many of the conspiracy theories have you checked out?”

MJ didn’t have a chance to respond as more students filed in just as the bell signifying class starting rang overhead.

Their teacher entered a moment after the bell. The teacher, Mr. Fisher, was tall, with thick curly blonde hair and a no-nonsense attitude. The moment the morning roll call was concluded he started their presentations. Mr. Fisher consulted a pre-made list, calling the students up one by one to read their reports.

Peter was fifth. He jumped to his feet, his report clasped tightly in his hands, as he made his way to the front of the classroom.

The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy

By: Peter Parker

The assassination of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas was a tragedy that shaped our nation and one that still lives on in the minds of so many.

There are endless theories about what actually happened that day, despite the FBI and CIA investigations and the official Warren Commission Report.

The official story is that Lee Harvey Oswald, a former United States Marine, assassinated President Kennedy from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository as the motorcade entered Dealey Plaza.

Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested later that day but shortly after his arrest he declared that he “didn’t shoot anybody” and that he was a “patsy” being used simply for the fact that he had lived in the Soviet Union.

He was right. Oswald took the fall and paid with his life for a murder he didn’t commit. In fact, Oswald was a man that was simply following the orders passed down to him from higher level HYDRA agents to be in a certain place at a specific time.

At the time of President Kennedy’s assassination, HYDRA was deeply imbedded within the government, not just in the United States but all over the world. The organization had its claws in many high-ranking government officials, including Kennedy’s Vice President, Lyndon B. Johnson.

The assassination of President Kennedy came after he was deemed a threat to HYDRA when he refused to give in to the demands of many of their secret agents. Vice President Johnson had been an agent for HYDRA for many years but knew without the young Kennedy, he wouldn’t win the votes or the hearts of Americans. The plan had been to infiltrate the government at its highest level, a plan that had been in the works for many years but had failed with every attempt they made.

When Lee Harvey Oswald made the move to the Soviet Union, he opened the door to the manipulation HYDRA was known for. He was disillusioned with the United States government and had been looking for an outlet for his anger when he was approached by his wife Marina’s brother-in-law who was a HYDRA agent within the Soviet Union.

After some time being trained and brainwashed by HYDRA, Oswald and his family emigrated to the United States where the events that would lead to then Vice President Johnson opening the White House doors to HYDRA were set in motion.

On the morning of November 22, 1963, Oswald had received his orders to report to the Texas School Book Depository at 11:30 a.m. where he was to make his way to the sixth floor.

As the presidential motorcade passed through Dealey Plaza at approximately 12:30 p.m., the orders Oswald had received instructed him to fire three shots from the window facing Dealey Plaza using the Mannlicher-Carcano rifle that had been hidden behind some boxes.

The events of that day were captured by Abraham Zapruder using his Model 414 PD Bell & Howell Zoomatic Director Series Camera which was high-end at that time.

In the video, as the motorcade approaches what is known as the Grassy Knoll, President Kennedy is struck with a second shot to his head.

There have been many that have speculated there was a second shooter on the Grassy Knoll that fired the deadly shot, but that theory has been repeatedly denied by many government agencies over the years.

In truth, the second shooter was the ONLY shooter.

Oswald's shots from the window of the sixth floor were to cover the shots of the assassin on the Grassy Knoll. None of the shots Oswald fired struck President Kennedy or Governor Connelly for that matter.

Lying in wait behind a portion of fence, which was in front of the motorcade, on the Grassy Knoll was one of the worlds and HYDRAs deadliest assassins known as the Winter Soldier.

The Winter Soldier has committed numerous assassinations and terrorist acts throughout the world such as the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, as a means for HYDRA to create a singular world government under their control.

HYDRA has used their power to cover up these acts or to shift the blame onto their enemies.

When Lee Harvey Oswald was being transferred from the city jail to the county jail on November 24, 1963, at 11:21 a.m., one of HYDRAs known sympathizers and a Dallas Nightclub operator by the name of Jack Ruby entered the basement of the Dallas Police Headquarters and fatally shot Oswald.

Jack Ruby was used by HYDRA to tie up their loose ends and help them cover up their involvement.

HYDRA had a strong grip on the government within the United States after orchestrating President Kennedy’s assassination and therefore placing one of their top agents, Lyndon B. Johnson, in charge as the new President of the United States.”

“Enough!” Mr. Fisher’s voice rang through the quiet of the classroom, cutting Peter off. Peter turned to look at his teacher, brow furrowed. The older man’s cheeks were bright red. “This is history class, not creative writing class. Your assignment was to write about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and its impact on the future of America.”

“What? No, I did, that’s what this is.” Peter protested.

“Don’t lie, Parker. You’re in enough trouble as it is. Sit down and stay after class.” Mr. Fisher hissed.

Peter’s cheeks reddened and he shuffled to his seat, head down. MJ and Ned starred in stunned silence at the teacher, then exchanged glances. They both shuffled their desks a little closer to Peter’s, MJ ran her hand over Peter’s back and Ned put his hand over Peter’s, squeezing it tightly. Peter put his head down on his desk and sat like that for the rest of the class period.

The bell rang for the end of first period. MJ and Ned reluctantly collected their belongings and headed to their next class. Peter staid sitting at his desk, waiting for Mr. Fisher to call him to the front of the classroom. Once everyone cleared out, he did.

“Peter,” The teacher started. “This school has put up with a lot of lies from you over this last year. We’ve been understanding due to the circumstances of your uncle passing away and how hard your aunt works to provide for you. But these lies need to stop. The games you’re playing need to stop. This is your senior year of high school in a prestigious school, any missteps will ruin your chance of going to college.”

“Sir, I haven’t lied about anything.” Peter argued. “I have an internship with Stark industries, the office has the paperwork. I did my project just like you told us to.”

“Another lie, Parker. This isn’t doing you any good. I’ll be calling your aunt in for a meeting.”

“My aunts out of town for work.” Peter gave up on arguing, his blood rushed in his ears, cheeks flaming red all over again.

“You have others on your contact list. A Mr. Potts and a Mr. Star, Ms. Potts.” The teacher turned hard eyes on Peter.

“Go ahead and call whichever.” Peter felt a sense of doom hearing the names Mr. Fisher listed off. His dad, stepdad, and Pepper. Not even one of them would be pleased to get a call from the school.

The teacher nodded, scrolling through the list of phone numbers. He held up a finger to Peter and dialed out from the phone on his desk. Peter’s sensitive hearing meant he could hear the line ringing from the phone pressed against the teacher’s ear. “How may I help you?” A female voice answered. Peter recognized it as Tony’s AI, Friday.

“I’m trying to reach Peter Parker’s listed school contacts. A Mr. Potts?”

“Mr. Potts is unavailable at this moment, I can take a message, unless Peter needs to be picked up from school.” Friday announced.

“No, he doesn’t need to be picked up. He needs a parent teacher conference immediately to discuss some behavior problems.”

Peter’s heart sunk at the words ‘behavior problems.’

“I’ll schedule an appointment for Mr. Potts.” Peter wasn’t sure how it was possible for an AI’s voice to go so cold.

“Today after school hours or tomorrow before school would be preferable,” Mr. Fisher supplied.

“Mr. Potts will bring Peter to school tomorrow morning 35 minutes before the start of classes. Is that sufficient?”

Peter’s phone vibrated in his pocket. He pulled it free of his jeans and glanced at the text labeled from Friday. Are you alright, Peter? I’ve relayed this phone call thus far to the Boss and Captain Dad. Your heart rate is elevated but within reasonable parameters

Peter thumbed open the message and quickly typed a message back. I’m fine, tell dad and Steve I’ll explain everything when I get home.

“Tomorrow is sufficient.” The phone call wrapped up as Peter locked his phone and slipped it back into his pocket.

Peter continued to stand opposite his teacher. For a few long moments it was silent after Mr. Fisher hung up the phone. Finally, Peter asked, “Can I leave? I’m going to be late to my next class.”

The teacher waved dismissively. Peter adjusted his backpack on his back and rushed out of the room.

Hours after school had ended, Peter darted into the Tower after finishing his routine patrol. He made it upstairs just as Steve finished setting the dinner table. He skids to a stop next to the table, grinning sheepishly. “Sorry, had a last-minute mugger to web up.”

“It’s fine, Queens. Go wash up, dinner’s about done. Dad’ll be up in a minute.”

“Sure thing Captain Dad.” Peter grinned, rushing off again. He came back into the dining room several minutes later, on the heels of Tony.

Tony, Steve, and Peter took their places around the table and began dishing up.

Tony waited until his husband and Peter started eating to turn to his son. “So, what’s the deal with the parent-teacher conference all of a sudden, Underoos?”

Peter’s cheeks immediately flamed red, and he gulped down the bite of food in his mouth. “Remember that report Uncle Bucky helped me with?”

His parents nodded.

“Well, apparently my teacher thinks that everything in my report is a lie. He didn’t let me finish reading it and called me out in front of my entire first period class. Then after class he told me I’m a liar and that I’ve got behavior problems and the school has let it go on because of Uncle Ben dying and Aunt May being a single parent, which, isn’t true. I mean, I’ve got more than one parent, obviously.” He motioned towards both Steve and Tony. “But apparently, he didn’t get the memo. He said my internship is a lie, everything. I was so humiliated.”

Steve and Tony shared looks. “Did he talk to the principal? What’s his name, Morita? He didn’t straighten any of this out?”

“No, he didn’t call Mr. Morita, he didn’t do anything but jump to the conclusion that I’m a liar and call Friday. MJ and Ned spent all day shutting down rumors about me getting into trouble. Again. Cause the limelight has been on me ever since that fight with Flash. And no one can figure out how I got out of trouble and Flash didn’t. That never happens.”

“Why don’t we have Bucky come upstairs?” Steve asked, sharing another look with Tony.

Peter shrugged, “Sure.”

Tony asked Friday to invite Bucky upstairs. It only took Steve’s best friend a few minutes to arrive in the Penthouse. He sat down at the table next to Peter.

Steve motioned for Peter to explain everything again. As he did, Bucky listened avidly. “Kid, you got in trouble for the report I helped you with?”

“It’s so dumb, Uncle Bucky. Like, I did exactly what he wanted, and I was so excited to present it. We worked hard on this.”

“I know, Pal. We had a lot of fun working on it.” Bucky’s voice was calm, his body as relaxed as it ever was. He eyed Steve, Tony and even Peter. “What are you doing about all this?”

Tony smirked. “Oh, there’s a Parent-Teacher conference in the morning with this teacher. Steve, Peter, and I will be there. You should be there as well, Buck.”

Bucky’s eyebrows furrowed. “Why?”

Steve’s lip quirked, “Tony and I are Peter’s parents, normally May would also be involved. But you also helped with this project, and we think you’d be helpful.”

“Okay, but you guys are going disguised, right?” Peter asked around a mouthful of food. He swallowed quickly. “You can’t just waltz into the middle of my high school as two Avengers and the Winter Soldier. I’ll never have a normal life again. My senior year of high school will be hell.”

“Language,” Steve interrupted.

Peter pouted dramatically at his stepdad. “Sorry Captain Dad.”

“Underoos, we’ll be there before the start of school. No one will be there.”

Peter rolled his eyes. “This is a school exclusively for nerds. Everyone gets to school early.”

Tony paused and Steve chuckled. Even Bucky smirked. “Okay, Kid, you win. Baseball caps and sunglasses it is.”

“Uh, no. That has never worked. Friday, ask Aunt Nat if we can borrow her wigs.”

“Not happening.” Tony immediately protested.

“I’ll take the F.” Peter crossed his arms stubbornly.

Natasha appeared in leggings and a form fitting hoodie; several wigs clasped in her hands.

Tony turned to his husband. “I lost this battle, didn’t I?”

Steve tried to hide his grin. “Yep, sorry babe. Pete won at ‘I’ll take the F.’”

Natasha held up the wigs after getting the gist of the situation from them, eyeing the three men and the wigs. She grinned mischievously and announced she’d be back in the morning to help Tony, Steve, and Bucky into them.

Tony and Bucky shared looks of horror.

“Nope, that won’t be necessary Devil Spy Lady,” Tony quickly argued.

Natasha turned to look Tony dead in the eye placing a large handled gleaming knife one the table where she leaned, and smirked. “My wigs. Want to use them, I’ll be helping you. Deal with it.”

Tony audibly gulped and nodded, scooting back slightly in his chair. His eyes darted around the table from Steve to Peter to Bucky. Not even one of them looked like they would rescue him from the force that is Natasha Romanoff.

“Yup, okay, work to do and times a wasting.” Tony stood up from the table and rushed out of the room.

Tony and Bucky wore blonde wigs. Tony’s wig was long, with straight blonde hair, whereas Bucky’s was a semi short, relaxed curly blonde. Steve had on a black wig under a baseball cap. Tony forewent his typical color lensed sunglasses and went with a pair of “regular” reading glasses; fully loaded with Friday and the typical gadgets his sunglasses carried, without the flair of them.

Peter sat on the couch in the living room watching his dad, stepdad and uncle get ready with his aunts help. The teen couldn’t help the occasional giggle and tease at the expense of his family members. It soothed the anxiety fluttering in his stomach slightly.

Happy Hogan, Tony’s personal bodyguard, chauffer and one of his best friends, entered the Penthouse from the elevator, stomping loudly down the hallway. “I’ve been waiting in the garage for 15 minutes. If you want to be on time for this meeting, lets go!” He huffed angrily as he stepped into the living room.

Steve looked at the bulky watch on his left wrist. “Happy’s right, we’re going to be late. Everyone ready?”

Natasha double checked her work and made a shooing motion at Tony, Steve, Bucky, and Peter. Peter grabbed his backpack and followed Happy back to the elevator.

Happy pulled the Audi into the load/unload zone out front of Midtown Tech. Students milled about on the front steps in various groups. Peter jumped out of the car, shooting his dad a look of ‘I told you so,’ as he did. Tony, Steve, and Bucky took their time getting out of the car.

Peter ushered them towards the steps, keeping his head down slightly as he passed his peers on the steps. He led the three to the main office just inside the school’s front doors where he helped them sign the Visitor log (under the names that are kept in the schools’ files) and then led them down several hallways to his History teachers classroom.

Mr. Fisher didn’t look up as the four of them entered the classroom. He continued what it was he was doing on his desktop. “Have a seat, I’ll be with you momentarily.”

Peter caught his dad and stepdad exchanging looks but he moved to take a seat in one of the desks at the front of the classroom, close to the teacher’s desk. Tony, Steve, and Bucky did not sit, but they stood or leaned on desks near where Peter sat. After a minute or two the teacher scooted back from his desk and finally looked up. His eyes widened seeing three adult men in the room surrounding Peter and his desk.

“I apologize for the wait, gentlemen. Our computer systems have been acting up lately, that’s the third time I’ve inputted my students’ grades for their reports.” He said, looking a little frustrated. “I’m Jeffrey Fisher.”

“I’m Tony.”

“Steve.”

“Bucky.”

“And your relations to Mr. Parker?” He asked, looking between the three, scrutinizing them heavily.

Tony smirked and pulled off the wig and said, “I’m Tony Stark, I’m Peter’s adopted father. Steve is my husband, and Bucky is Steve’s best friend and Peter’s uncle.”

Mr. Fisher’s jaw dropped. “I-I, Stark?”

“I understand you were under the impression that Peter has no family outside of his Aunt May, but I can tell you that’s incorrect. Had you gone and spoken to the principal about any issues regarding Peter, which is clearly notated in Peter’s file, you would have learned that Peter is in fact surrounded by family.” Tony’s voice was cold as he glared at the teacher. “Which is why you weren’t able to get through to me directly and my AI was the one to take your call and scheduled this meeting.”

“Wait a moment,” Mr. Fisher protested. “I never once implied or gave the impression that Peter has no family outside of his aunt.”

“No, no you really did, but that’s not why we’re here, correct?” Steve cut in.

“Right, we’re here about Peter’s report. He was asked to write a paper about John F. Kennedy’s assassination and the affect it had on the nation moving forward.”

Tony raised his eyebrow in expectation.

“His report was a bunch of falsities and make believe. There wasn’t an ounce of truth outside of the fact that JFK was assassinated.” Mr. Fisher elaborated. “He wrote a report stating that for one, HYDRA was to be blamed for the president’s assassination. He also attempted to elaborate on ridiculous conspiracy theories before I stopped him. Peter has a tendency for lying.”

Peter’s eyes went wide hearing how the teacher was explaining his conversation as well as his family situation and take on it.

“Are you unaware of how deeply HYDRA’S reach is in the entire world not just the United States?” Steve asked Mr. Fisher.

“I am in fact aware.”

Steve looked disbelieving. “I’m finding that hard to believe.”

“Have you read Peter’s paper?” The teacher asked.

Tony shrugged. “No, I tend to wait for my son to bring it home and show me after it’s been graded unless he wants to show me beforehand.”

Steve nodded his agreement.

“I helped Peter write it,” Bucky said. His shoulders were squared, and he stood at his full height as he stepped forward and slightly in front of Tony and Steve.

“You helped write that ridiculous paper?” The teacher was incredulous.

“Yes. Peter wrote no fallacies.”

“The ONLY accurate thing in that paper is the fact that JFK was assassinated. Nothing else. He lied all throughout the paper like it’s a creative writing class just like he’s lied about most everything else in the course of being a student at Midtown.”

“What exactly has Peter lied about?” Tony asked. “If you say his internship, we’ll have a problem. His paperwork is in the office. He works directly under me, Bruce Banner and Pepper Potts, CEO. He does NOT have to disclose his family situation to anyone, least of all you. If you inferred that he was nothing but an orphan who had only his aunt, you were wrong and that’s not on Peter. We’re here to discuss his report and not anything else. If you have other problems, I suggest you speak first with Morita, and he’ll handle it with me accordingly.”

The teacher nodded and moved on. “His report, then. Shall we? His expectations were clear, and he wrote and attempted to present mindless garbage to the class.”

“Everything Peter wrote was true.” Bucky said. “I already stated this. I helped him with it.”

“And where exactly did you go to school and get an education?” The teacher glanced at Bucky.

“I’m from Brooklyn, originally.” Bucky announced, tilting his head to the side.

Mr. Fishers eyes landed on the dog tags around Bucky’s neck. “Mhmm. Being from Brooklyn explains the dog tags. Your IQ was too low for college, but the Army has no problem accepting those with a low intelligence. It makes them easier to brainwash. It’s amazing that Peter was accepted into this school with an uncle who has an IQ like yours.”

Bucky’s eyes narrowed and he stalked forward, towering over the teacher. He pulled the glove off his metal hand and rolled his sleeve. “You obviously have no clue who I am. I am James Buchanan Barnes, Captain America’s best friend. I am who was known as the Winter Soldier. I am the White Wolf.”

Peter gasped in astonishment. His uncle’s nose was nearly pressed against the teachers despite how short Mr. Fisher was. Bucky had his metal hand clamped around the teacher’s throat. Fisher’s eyes bugged out and his face paled.

Steve and Tony lunged forward and pulled Bucky back by wrapping their arms around his own and his chest and yanking. Bucky strained against them for a tension filled moment before stepping back of his own volition. He glared daggers at the teacher who was white as a sheet and stumbling backwards slightly.

“I suggest you refrain from insulting my son or his uncle any further.” Tony’s voice held a deadly calm to it that sent a chill down everyone’s spines.

Bucky’s large, muscled frame seemed to fill the classroom as he spoke again. “As the Winter Soldier I was brainwashed and used by HYDRA as their number one assassin. I killed John F. Kennedy, the president of the United States of America, among dozens of others, including Tony’s own parents, Maria, and Howard Stark. I am not just some dumb fuck from Brooklyn. I am THE deadliest assassin the world has ever known. Not a single word Peter Parker-Stark wrote is incorrect or exaggerated. How will you be fixing your mistake?”

To Peter his uncle sounded angry, cold and like someone he didn’t know. A man possessed by who he had once been. He slowly stood up from his desk and stood next to his uncle. He leaned his head against Bucky’s metal shoulder and wrapped his arm around his side.

Bucky took a deep breath and looked down at the teenager leaning into him, cocking his head to the side as he looked into Peter’s eyes.

Mr. Fisher coughed quietly. “I seem to have misjudged…” He started. “Peter can present his project in its entirety during class this morning.”

“Forgive me if I don’t trust you on this. We’ll be staying for Peter’s presentation.” Steve announced. He used the voice he saved for when the team was on missions, brooking no argument from anyone.

Peter’s message tone rang loudly through the uncomfortable silence of the room. He pulled slightly away from his uncle and pulled out his phone. He tapped on the picture message, and it loaded the “FAM- No Parents” chat group he had with the Avengers, which included Natasha, Clint, Sam, Wanda, Bruce and Rhodey. As the picture loaded several more appeared beneath it. Peter smashed the lock button at the top of the screen and shoved it back in his pocket. His dad and stepdad gave him matching looks of confusion but didn’t comment.

“Dad, if you guys are staying can you put your wig back on?”

“No can do, kiddo.” Tony smirked. “No one has to know we’re family, but I’ll be making it damn clear to everyone that you do have an internship and know me very well. And the other popsicle here will be making it clear that your project isn’t a lie like Mr. Fisher here insinuated.”

Steve rolled his eyes and pat Peter’s shoulder reassuringly.

“Yeah, I had a feeling that’s how this was going to go.” Peter sighed. He pulled his phone back out and checked the time on it. There were less than ten minutes until the warning bell rang. He turned to his teacher, “Is this meeting done? Can I get settled in my seat and get ready to present?”

The teacher turned incredulous eyes to Peter, like he couldn’t believe that the teen just swept everything that just happened under the rug. An uncomfortable amount of time passed, and everyone stared at him. “Yeah, yes, the meeting is over. Before you settle, why don’t you get your, uh, parents some chairs so they’re comfortable at the back of the room?”

“Sure.” Peter agreed. He turned to Tony, “Ned and MJ should be here by now. Is it okay if I find them real quick?”

Tony ruffled Peter’s hair and chuckled. “Go find your pals, bud.”

Peter grinned wildly and skipped out of the classroom without a backwards glance. He headed straight for his and Ned’s side by side lockers. Ned’s locker was wide open, and he was standing there putting items into his backpack. Across the hall, MJ was at her own locker.

He called out to both, and he stopped at his locker next to Ned’s. MJ finished in her locker and walked over to join the boys. “Both of my dads are here. And Uncle Bucky.” He confided. “So, don’t freak out Ned.”

“Dude, the day I stop freaking out over the literal Avengers is the day I die.”

Peter shook his head and MJ rolled her eyes. “C’mon, you guys wanna help me grab chairs for them? Mr. Fisher is letting me re-do giving my report and they’re staying to watch. Also, check out the group chat.”

He pulled his phone back out and opened the chat group again.

Uncle Bird – But why does Bucky look like Britney Spears?

Other Bird Guy- Yup, can’t unsee that one

Other Bird Guy- Tony and Steve look ridiculous

Uncle Rhodey- I know nothing about this

Uncle Hulk Smash has left the chat

Peter turned off the screen once both friends had finished reading. He motioned for them to follow him even as Ned started chattering excitedly. They stopped for a moment and the three friends each grabbed a chair and headed towards their history classroom.

While Midtown was a school for Nerds and the nerds liked to arrive at school early, even most of them refused to go to their classrooms earlier than they had to. Ned, MJ, and Peter were the only students in the classroom when they arrived back. Mr. Fisher had gone back to his desk and buried his nose in his desktop. Tony, Steve, and Bucky had migrated to the back of the room.

The teens took the chairs to the adults and then went to the desks they normally occupied during class after they chatted for a minute with Peter’s family.

Ned leaned over and whispered to Peter, “Dude, why does Mr. Fisher look so sketched out?”

“It may have gotten a little ugly when he told Uncle Bucky that he has a low IQ and the army brainwashed him…and insulted me in the same breath.” Peter grimaced.

“Oof.”

“Big oof,” Peter agreed.

“As you see, we have guests here this morning.” Mr. Fisher addressed the classroom. “Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes will be joining us for Peter’s presentation. It seems I had some uh, false facts yesterday. Please disregard any misconceptions from yesterday and listen closely to Peter’s report.”

Fisher’s face turned a darker red with each word he spoke. He quickly sat back down at his desk and Peter stood up, sheets of paper clutched tightly in his hand as he bounded to the front of the classroom.

“I’m going to start from the beginning.” He admitted and started reading.

The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy

By: Peter Parker

The assassination of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas was a tragedy that shaped our nation and one that still lives on in the minds of so many.

At the time of President Kennedy’s assassination, HYDRA was deeply imbeded within the government, not just in the United States but all over the world. The organization had its claws in many high ranking government officials, including Kennedy’s Vice President, Lyndon B.

There have been many that have speculated there was a second shooter on the Grassy Knoll that fired the deadly shot but that theory has been repeatedly denied by many government agencies over the years.

When Lee Harvey Oswald was being transferred from the city jail to the county jail on November 24, 1963 at 11:21 a.m., one of HYDRAs known sympathizers and a Dallas Nightclub operator by the name of Jack Ruby entered the basement of the Dallas Police Headquarters and fatally shot Oswald.

Jack Ruby was used by HYDRA to tie up their loose ends and help them cover up their involvement.

HYDRA had a strong grip on the government within the United States after orchestrating President Kennedy’s assassination and therefore placing one of their top agents, Lyndon B. Johnson, in charge as the new President of the United States.

While HYDRA continued their path to world domination for many decades after President Kennedy’s assassination, there were two more assassinations carried out by HYDRAs assassin in the 1960s that helped shape and define the political climate of the time.

The assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. on April 4, 1968, at 6:01 p.m. in Memphis, Tennessee was their attempt at controlling and putting an end to the civil rights movement.

James Earl Ray was arrested on June 8, 1968 and extradited to the United States where he was charged with the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. but like Lee Harvey Oswald, Ray was used by HYDRA officials to cover their tracks and take the fall for another assassination carried out by the Winter Soldier.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s own family and others believed that the assassination was the result of a conspiracy involving the U.S. government and to an extent, it was.

On June 5, 1968, Robert F. Kennedy was shot by Sirhan Sirhan shortly after midnight at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. He was pronounced dead at 1:44 a.m. on June 6.

Some believe that the assassination of Robert Kennedy was the first major incident of political violence in the United States stemming from the Palestinian–Israeli conflict in the Middle East. The truth is that Robert Kennedy, like his brother President John Kennedy, refused to give in to HYDRAs demands thus becoming a threat to the organization and their plans.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has said that he traveled to the Richard J. Donovan correctional facility in California to meet with Sirhan, and that, after a relatively lengthy conversation (the details of which he would not disclose), believed that Sirhan did not kill his father and that a second gunman was involved.

To further support the truth, the location of Kennedy's wounds suggested that his assailant had stood behind him, while witnesses assert that Sirhan faced west as Kennedy moved through the pantry facing east.

In these assassinations, and many others, the Winter Soldier was never seen or blamed for the crimes. There was always someone else that took the blame and with HYDRAs influence, the crimes seemed to be unconnected to each other and were seen to be related to other events happening in the world.

Sergeant James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes, a member of the Howling Commandos, was found by the Soviet Union wing of HYDRA after falling hundreds of feet from a train in the Austrian Alps and was subsequently brainwashed and armed with a cybernetic arm in order to become their operative known as the Winter Soldier. Over the next fifty years, he would eliminate anyone who posed a threat to HYDRA including President Kennedy, MLK, Robert Kennedy, and even Howard Stark and his wife, Maria. Between all the assassination missions, the Winter Soldier was placed into cryogenic stasis to ensure his longevity.

Sergeant Barnes escaped HYDRA in 2014 after HYDRAs failed attempt to initiate Project Insight within S.H.I.E.L.D.

The Winter Soldier has since been pardoned by the President of the United States for his involvement in the assassination of President Kennedy and for many other crimes he has committed within the United States over the decades.”

The classroom erupted into loud discussion as Peter stopped reading and investigated the room full of his peers. More than half the class kept sneaking glances towards the back of the room at the Avengers sitting there.

Tony stood and walked to the front of the classroom to join Peter. The chatter died down. “Hello Midtown. Great report, right? It’s all true. Bucky will come and answer some questions you all have before we leave. Oh, and FYI, Peter works with me personally as well as with Bruce Banner and my lovely CEO Pepper Potts. Spread that around, would you?” Tony winked at the classroom, ruffled Peter’s hair, and strode purposefully out of the classroom.

Bucky and Steve made their way to the front of the classroom. Steve bent down and whispered into Peters ear. “I believe dad is going to speak with Morita. I’m gonna follow him.”

Peter nodded and hugged Steve. He stood next to Bucky as Bucky stared down the classroom.

The room was deadly quiet until Ned raised his hand. “Mr. Barnes, as the Winter Soldier you were at the heart of a lot of assassinations, right? I heard that correctly in Peters report?”

“That’s correct, Ned.” Bucky agreed.

MJ raised her hand and waited for Bucky to nod at her. “How has it been for you to acclimate to being a citizen after removing your brainwashing?”

Bucky turned to look at Peter questioningly. Peter shrugged helplessly. “Uh, difficult. But with the help of Wakanda technology the programming was removed, Steve and the Avengers have helped me. Peter has helped me. It’s a learning process, I guess.”

Tony finished the replay of that morning’s conference with Mr. Fisher for Principal Morita. He continued to lean back in his uncomfortable chair across from Morita. Steve sat next to him not nearly as relaxed as his husband.

The principal rubbed his hand tiredly across his face, as he admitted, “This is not flattering for this school.”

“Nope, and you can’t blame Buck for his reaction either. Shall I play back the classroom feed of Peter’s encounter with the teacher after class yesterday?”

Waving a hand, Morita nodded unenthusiastically. Tony played the end of Peter’s report as well as the conversation that followed with the teacher.

“Mr. Stark, how would you like to proceed?” Morita leaned back in his chair, resigned. “This is a sticky situation.”

Steve snorted softly beside Tony. Tony turned and grinned mischievously at his husband and winked before turning back to the principal. “After the incident with Flash Thompson I know you’re a good man, Morita. Your great grandfather was one of Steve’s Howling Commandos. What would you recommend?”

“Obviously something needs to be done. He treated a student poorly and then without following the directions in said students file, which is to speak with me first about Peter, he insulted Peter and his uncle. I’d say that for starters we’ll be doing some training in proper etiquette for a teacher. I don’t suggest suspension or firing him, but I would recommend a formal reprimand in his file and alerting the board, which you’re on.”

Tony tapped his fingers on his knee, thinking on it. He turned to his husband, “What do you think, honey?”

“I think after Bucky scared the daylights out of him, I think that’s a fair trade.” Steve admitted.

“Perfect.” Tony stood with a flourish. “Pleasure doing business with you Morita. Would you mind calling Peter’s class and asking Fishy to send Bucky our way when he’s done with show and tell?”

“Fisher,” Morita corrected seemingly amused by Tony’s antics. “I’ll have the secretary make the call. Before you go, Mr. Stark, I’ve been meaning to ask you something.”

Tony turned to look at the principal.

“The Decathlon team has won all of their meets this year so far, we’ve been looking for a field trip for the students as a reward.”

“Compound or Tower?”

“Tony, not the compound. That’s too dangerous for a group of high schoolers.” Steve immediately argued.

“Not on a weekend when the compound is typically empty and it’s an overnight visit scheduled in advance.” Tony smirked.

“Tony,” Steve warned. “Principal Morita, we’ll get back to you on this. Pepper and Peter need to be involved in this decision.”

After school Peter dropped off his school bag and went to find Bucky on Bucky’s personal floor that used to be Steve’s. “Uncle Bucky, thanks for helping me with my project and defending me and answering all those questions. You were the talk of the school!”

Bucky nudged Peter’s shoulder with his own. “Any time, pal.”

Bucky and Peter made their way to the elevator and upstairs to the common room kitchen, still talking quietly about the rest of Peter’s school day. The common room was full of noise, video games and arguing between various members of the team. The pair found a spot for themselves on one of the many couches in the room.

Steve and Tony joined the rest of the group in the common room shortly after Bucky and Peter. The room quieted down at their arrival.

“Man, I can’t even look at y’all the same.” Sam announced as he shook his head and stood up from where he lounged on the floor. He tossed down the N64 controller into Clint’s lap and started to walk past Bucky and Peter. “See ya later, Britney.”

“Who the hell is Britney?” Bucky asked.

Sam snickered loudly as he left the room. “It’s Britney, Bitch!” He called out over his shoulder.

“Language!” Clint, Natasha, Tony, and Peter all shouted after him.

Steve’s cheeks darkened and he buried his face in Tony’s shoulder. “I’m never living that down.”

The room erupted into raucous laughter.
