Summary
What seems like just the average adventure spirals into something much darker when after an upsetting argument with Rick, Morty runs into trouble. Once Rick arrives at his grandson's aid, he sees the boy unconscious in the grip of a monster. Morty wakes up sometime afterward, safe and warm in his bed with his injuries tended to. Rick had saved him once again. Didn't he always?
Morty's feelings about his grandfather become more and more confusing in the days following. His heart begins to flutter whenever the man is near, and he begins to feel a strange emptiness when he's away. The teen finds himself desiring to be closer to the man every day, only for Rick to pull further away from him. But, what is even more concerning to him than these new feelings toward Rick is the blooming pain in his chest. It seems to get worse by the day, crushing his lungs with each breath... And it fills Morty with the fear that this time Rick won't be able to save him
