Work Text:
"Hey bud, haven't talked to you in a while huh?"
"..."
Macaque stood right Infront of his former enemy's (?) body, crouching on the grass to reach the same height of the body which was made out of stone and looked like it was frozen in time.
Macaque then sits beside the stone statue, not caring that his clothes are getting dirty due to the moss and dirt sticking onto it.
"Hm.. how long has it been.." Macaque lifts up his hand and counts the fingers he puts up and down as his messy hair flows through the wind in the dark night sky.
"..." Silence, that's what Macaque has been getting for centuries being here talking to the statue (or maybe corpse to be exact?)But he didn't really mind, after all, that's what he used to do to him, so it's fair if he gets the same treatment isn't it?
"Oh right! It's been 2700 years since you stayed here haha!" He gave a small smile and laugh.
"..."
"Alot of this happened huh..your kid finally became an immortal, ha! I told you that I'm a better teacher than you right?" That's a lie, he could never be a better teacher than he was
"..."
"And I found a work partner,,what was her name again?? Ha, whatever I don't really liked them anyways" That's a lie, he really enjoyed spending time with them
"..."
"And uhh.. what else.." Macaque looks down as he tried to remember things to say to the statue as his scarf waves through the wind
"Ugh whatever.." He then shakes his head as to forget everything he has thought about
"..."
"..."
Silence was the only thing there for quite some time.. Until Macaque notices a small peach tree near the area they were in
"Hey, I wonder if I can take those Peaches? Maybe I can just give these to the MK and his buds " he gave a small laught but he knowsbhe won't, he always loved these peaches and he wanted it all for himself, it was selfish of him but it tasted so sweet and its scent always reminded him of..
"Hey Wukong?" Macaque looks up to the statues face
"..."
"What does death feel like again?"
"..."
"I know I've died once but what happens if you die twice?"
"..."
"I wonder what would happen.."
"..."
Everything was returned with silence, but Macaque was used to it, it was okay, he was used to it.
His tears starts pouring down his face, as Macaque tries to hold them back
"G-god I need to stop crying so much, I'm supposed to be a weapon goddamnit.." he then covers his face using his scarf as an attempt to cover his tear ridden face.
"Heh..I'm being a crybaby like I always do.." Macaque then rolls up into a ball next to the statue to fully cover his face and stays like that for a while.
After a bit, he stared up at the statue's face, admiring it. Until he suddenly remembered something.
"Oh right! Your kid wanted for me to give you this since he's been really busy" he pulls out a flower crown, decorated with dandelions and small sunflowers all over it.
"Apparently he's now able to fight demon kings on his own, haha isn't that rather familiar isn't it?..He really is similar to you.." he whispered the last part as he observes the flowers around the crown decorating it,
The flowers still smelled fresh and sweet and it definitely has not wilted and it was exactly the same state when MK gave that crown to Macaque. Macaque knew it was definitely that kid's magic and smiled proudly while fondling it.
Macaque then put the crown on top of the statue as he dusts some dirt off it.
And upon seeing how the crown looks like on the statue, Macaque can't help but blush in admiration..
Macaque knew he shouldn't feel like this, they were supposed to be enemies after all, like how the light and the dark are complete opposites.
(Only that he forgot that the dark needs the light to survive after all)
But he just can't help it.
Macaque took a few steps back and just stood there shaking, clutching onto his clothes, looking and crying like a kid who was left behind in an amusement park.
He finally accepts it
He still loves him.
After centuries of not accepting it, he finally did
But it's just a shame that he's too late to tell him everything about it, and he knows it.
He regrets everything he's done realising that he will never be able to do what he ever wanted to do with him, having dates, dancing, sleeping together, grooming each others fur, cuddling,
Staying together with each other forever like what they used to promise as kids
He then falls down, kneeling onto the ground, gripping the grass on the ground whilst tears fall down. Was it frustration? Hate? Guilt? Macaque wasn't sure
But it definitely hurt.
Macaque then kept on crying and crying, he knew how pathetic he looked but he still did it not caring about his surroundings (it wasn't like Wukong himself was there, right?..), till he finally passes out of exhaustion on the grass.
"..."
Not noticing the gold aura and the drop of water that fell out of the statue's eyelid.
