Still Need You

Summary:

Peter is getting married to MJ and Tony has to come to his rescue.

Work Text:

Tony looked at his kid. He was there in a suit looking at the mirror nervously. May had run into the main hall and been grateful to find Pepper and Tony about to sit down. She dragged Tony into the room where Peter was getting ready only to see a nervous kid. Since he knew the kid, Peter had always been ahead of the game only nervous a few times like the first time they meet.

Tony watched as Peter walked into the apartment and talked to May about his day. Tony watched as the kid noticed him. He was shocked to see himself. He didn’t realize then that he was meeting another adopted son. He smiled at the kid and talked as the kid played along confused. Peter kept his cool through the situation even though he was meeting Tony Stark. Tony always saw that moment as important for their relationship as would be the next year that they would get to know them.

“Oh thank goodness you are here,” Peter said. He ran to Tony holding up the tie. “May can’t help me and I am panicking and I hoped you were here cause Ned and Harley and Harry aren’t back yet and like I need my groomsmen back but they are busy with wedding stuff and I just need my dad.” Peter stopped realizing what he said. Tony just smiled.

“No problem, Kiddo.”

“I know this is lame but here,” Peter said on the Saturday before father’s day. Peter was working in the lab with Tony and Harley on one of the Iron Man suits. Tony was surprised as he looked at it realizing it was a father’s day card. Tony grabbed it which surprised Rhodey who was watching the situation. Tony never took anything he was handed. Tony read the card and smiled.

“Thanks, Kiddo. It’s nice to know you consider me a father figure,” Tony said. Peter mumbled as Harley said that he was more like a bother figure to them. Tony could care less. Both his boys were there and he had a daughter on the way that was exciting to him. For once he saw having kids as something he could deal with. He didn’t think he could be a father but now he could see that he always had that paternal personality. He just needed kids in his life to spoil and love and care about.

Tony tied his tie and smiled at the kid. Peter seemed less panicked as his groomsmen finally returned and were by his side calming him down. Tony knew it was time for him to leave.

“You got this kid,” Tony said. “Michelle Jones is lucky to have captured your heart and you both deserve happiness. I’m proud of you.” Peter smiled and thanked Tony as he hugged him. Tony cherished the hug like the first one.

Tony heard whimpering as he passed Peter’s room. He ran in to see the kid asleep and crying. He went next to the kid and kept asking him to wake up and get up. Peter finally woke and latched on to him. Tony held him tight and gave him a big squeeze. The kid loved to be touched whereas Tony only liked certain people touching him. If they touched him then they had to have been approved by his sanity. Peter must have had that approval cause he loved holding the kid and making sure he was safe.

“Thank you,” Peter said. “Sorry for latching on.”

“It’s okay, Kid. How about I hold you until you fall back to sleep?” Tony said. Peter nodded as Tony sang an Italian lullaby that his mother sang him to sleep with. Peter smiled and sang along until he yawned. He let go eventually and laid down but Tony still played with the kid's unkempt hair which was very wavy. Peter fell asleep and stayed asleep but Tony didn’t leave for an hour to make sure he was alright for the night.

Tony got back to his seat and sat there thinking about what today meant. Peter was getting married. Harley and Peter were taking over SI so Pepper could retire. Morgan was starting fifth grade. His kids were all growing up so fast. Vision even was married with kids if he counted his creation with Bruce cause he was technically why Vision was alive. He had a habit of adopting children which might have sounded crazy but sometimes adopting kids helped the kids like Peter. Peter came out as the wedding began. Tony watched his kid and how he sat there watching everything. He looked nervous but once he caught Tony’s eyes he smiled. Tony smiled back giving him a nod to knowing that everything was okay and when the bridal party was led in by the groomsmen and then Michelle walked through. Tony smiled as he stood up with everyone else. His kid looked at her as if she was the best person in the world. Tony remembered when Peter brought her over to meet Tony for the first time as if she was meeting his parents.

Pepper had offered to have them over and Tony had made his special pasta. He was worried about meeting another kid’s SO. Harley’s was enough especially when the boy was a hot head though that relationship was now over because Harley couldn’t deal with his boyfriend being in danger all the time and him not being able to do anything.

“She won’t bite Tony,” Harley said from the couch. Abby, Harley’s sibling, who was staying with Tony for the summer, nodded in agreement.

“This is big though!” Tony said. “It’s like the time I met your boyfriend.”

“You mean Johnny,” Abby said. They were smirking as Harley groaned. Tony nodded. “Didn’t you meet him when Harley was making out with him on the couch?”

“Still was a big moment where I threatened the life of someone,” Tony said. Pepper just rolled her eyes. She remembered that day. The elevator dinged as FRIDAY let them know Peter was there with Michelle. Michelle seemed impressed by Pepper but gave Tony a distrusted look. Tony listened as she talked about the issues with society and talked to Pepper about how she was a role model to her. She even talked about how she met Peter and figured out his secret identity. Tony realized she was good for his kid and even pulled her aside and told her as much.

“I don’t trust you still,” Michelle said.

“Well I do trust you around my kid so don’t think I will be on you about anything,” Tony said. Michelle nodded before leaving him there as Peter came in.

“So,” Peter said.

“She seems like one of the good ones,” Tony said. Peter nodded as Tony pulled him into a hug and told him not to let her go.

Tony knew he had a tear as his son got married but he knew that he would one day be walking another two kids down the aisle. He watched now as one of his boys got married though as he felt proud. Peter was happy which made him happy to see his kid get what he wanted in his life after losing so much.
