Wet.
Wet and cold and miserable, to the point your teeth chattered so hard in your skull you worried you might break a tooth.
But it's fine. It'll be fine. Just a little bit longer to Steven's flat, and then you could bundle up underneath his warm blankets with your favorite tea he always had in his cabinets, now.
Of course it would start raining like this the one time you forgot your wallet and bus pass.
By the time you knocked on his door you'd already left a puddle on the floor.
The shocked, concerned look that overtook his soft features nearly broke your heart in half, and he ushered you inside in a rush before you could start chattering explanations.
"Oh goodness me, let's get you into something dry, yeah?" His hands went everywhere at once - your shoulders, your cold face, your shivering hands, almost as if checking to make sure you're all in one piece, before he tugged your soaked jacket off your shaking shoulders, letting it plop onto the floor in a wet splotch without a care for the havoc it would wreak on the hardwood.
"I w-w-was alread-y over halfway h-here when the rain sta-r-rted."
"You poor thing, why don't you take a nice warm shower and I'll put a pot of tea on? The art gallery can wait for another day."
You listened to him, taking a bit longer in the hot water than you usually would, dressing the warmest, softest clothes you kept at Steven's.
And, true to his word, he had tea on the mug warmer waiting for you, his glass already almost empty, and blankets piled on the couch, smile spreading wide and soft as you came into view.
"I was thinking we could watch that nature film you've been wanting to show me?"
You smiled and sat down next to him on the couch and waited through his rounds of fussing over you, piling blankets over you both until you assured him that, really, you weren't going to freeze, and he settled down at your side.
And you never turned down an opportunity to snuggle into his side, his arm shyly wrapping around your shoulders and holding you close to him as you cupped your tea in chilled hands, the sound of the storm pattering down in the roof giving the whole flat a cozy ambiance, like a cocoon of warmth and comfort - like the two of you were the only people in the world.
"I love you," The thought overcame you suddenly but like a rolling wave, and there was nothing you or the universe could do to stop it from leaving your lips.
And really, you thought, Steven's expression could outshine the sun.
