Chapter 1: chapter 1

Chapter Text

Footsteps could be heard through the silent atmosphere of the dreamsmp as Sam walked cheerily down the worn and torn wooden path. In his hands he was carrying a basket of goods from Niki’s recently reopened bakery. Sam looked around him as he came closer and closer to a hobbit’s hole in the side of a hill. Upon his approach to the door Sam saw a sign that read “Property of Tommyinnit” , he smiled and knocked on the wooden door before him. After a moment of loud thuds and rushed footsteps the door opened to a disheveled teen standing before him. “Goodmorning Tommy, do you want to go on a walk with me? I saw this really nice field near the hotel and I also got these fresh goods from Niki’s bakery that we could share.” The teen stared blankly at the gold clad man and thought for a moment before nodding his head. Sam smiled and moved aside while Tommy closed the door behind him. The two made their way to the field in a comfortable silence as they admired the scenery as they walked by.

“Saaaaammm how far away is this field of yours?” Tommy questioned him in his usual loud brassy tone. Sam chuckled at the boy and shook his head. “Tommy we’ve only got a bit of ways left to go so hold on for a little longer.” The teen just quietly grumbled to himself but continued walking along nonetheless.

When they got to the field Sam turned to look over at Tommy. “See Tommy it wasn’t even that lon-” “WAHHHHH SAMM LOOK AT THOSE COWS!!” Tommy yelled with glimmering and wide eyes. Before Sam could mutter out another word Tommy was already running towards the cattle with some dandelions and grass blades in his hand. Sam smiled at the running teen. It was nice to finally see him be able to behave like the kid that he was. He was starting to think that his efforts to get the kid to forget the past were pointless. Sam chose a shady spot under a tree and set out the picnic blanket he had brought along and set the basket of goods down and decided to watch Tommy play with the cows for a bit.

Tommy ran back to Sam with a flower crown made up of dandelions and daisies in his hand. “HEYYYY SAAAM I MADE THIS FOR YOU!!” Sam rached put his hand towards the crown and put it over his golden one. “Thank you Tommy, it's lovely.” Sam smiled. “Now how about we have some of Niki’s pastries before they go completely cold?” Tommy nodded fervently and thanked Sam for the food before grabbing some of the cookies. Tommy turned to look at the fluffy clouds while stuffing his mouth with cookies he’d just grabbed. Sam chuckled but also turned to look up at the sky and so the two sat in another silence as the breeze whispered silent secrets through the air. Tommy whispered something under his breath, having not quite heard him Sam asked if he could repeat himself. Tommy blushed slightly and turned to the side but replied, “I had fun today.” Sam smiled “ Aweeee Tommyyy that’s so sweet, I had fun too” “WHATEVER BITCH OF COURSE YOU DID SINCE I’M HERE” Tommy sputtered as his face turned a bright red. Sam chuckled and continued teasing Tommy for a bit.

It was a little past noon before the two decided to pack up and head home. With full stomachs and warm smiles the two were back on the prime path in no time. “Hey Tommy?” Tommy turned back towards Sam with questioning eyes that looked as if they were telling him to go on. “Would you want to know how to use red stone?” For some reason Sam felt a bit nervous asking Tommy that, as if he was scared that this would somehow push him away. Tommy thought silently about Sam’s question and after a second or two the widest smile appeared on his face. “Hypothetically, if I learned how to use redstone could I scam people with it?” The cheeky grin never left his face as he asked the “hypothetical” question. Sam paused but soon after burst into a fit of giggles, what had he been so nervous for? It wasn’t like Tommy was going to suddenly not want to be friends or hang out if he asked. Sam let out a breath he didn't know he was holding before replying. “Sure if you want to, try not to do it near the hotel though please.” “YESS! YOU’RE THE COOLEST DAD!” Sam paused. “Dad?” Tommy stopped and looked at Sam confused. “What?” “Did you just call me dad? Tommy do you see me as your father figure?” “WHATTT NO NO NO I DID NOT JUST FUCKING CALL YOU DAD. MAYBE YOU’RE HEARING THINGS YOU OLD MAN” Tommy continued gawking and coming up with excuses as his face became more and more red. “Aweee Tommy I’m glad you can rely on me as a father figure.” “I DIDN’T CALL YOU DAD!” Sam chuckled at Tommy’s embarrassment as the two made their way home. He’ll be honest, he was glad that Tommy saw him as his dad since he was starting to grow a soft spot for the teen.
