“KIRISHIMA!”
Sprawled in a bed with the finest silver silk sheets, and with all of them pretty much on the floor at this point, Kirishima Eijirou groans and rolls over, squinting furiously at the ceiling when his friend and advisor comes bursting in. “Kirishima,” Jirou says, sighing as she powerwalks over and looks down at the Moon King. “You have an extremely important appointment today and I’m not having you miss it. Did you remember that?”
“Five more minutes,” Eijirou mumbles, trying to roll over. Jirou clicks her tongue and promptly shoves her boss out of bed. “Nope! Get up. The Sun God’s advisor is in our foyer and there’s only so many distractions I can give him from Todoroki and Sero before he gets tired of waiting.”
Wait. Wait. That appointment is today.
There’s a scramble as Eijirou throws himself out of bed, hitting the ground and racing to his feet. Jirou snorts as he runs into the bathroom and does his best to fix his appearance so he can meet his other half’s advisor, knowing how important this meeting is.
Kirishima Eijirou has a lot of titles. First and foremost, he’s the Moon King, Eternal Night, God of Night, etc., since his domain encompasses the moon and all it carries. It’s an interesting job. He’s gotta take care of his subjects and make sure that Earth still slumbers throughout his reign, ensuring that his sky is painted with the prettiest of stars and still tell the stories that were created so long ago. He also has to make sure the tides aren’t growing out of control, and that he’s done by the time the Sun is coming out, but there’s one important aspect of his job that isn’t seen as often as everything else.
Every few decades, there has to be an Eclipse. It’s a fact and ingrained in Eijirou’s entire self; he has to meet up with the Sun God and let their paths cross for several hours or up to a day. It allows for both of them to take a break and not fully burn out.
Unfortunately, their resident Sun God has been refusing to make an Eclipse with him. Between their messengers, it’s apparently because he “doesn’t need a break” and “doesn’t need some stupid gray rock to help with that”.
It’s been about 239 years since their last Eclipse. Eijirou’s starting to burn out.
Eijirou may know he’s merely a reflection of how beautiful the Sun is, and he knows he’s only reflecting his light, but he still needs to rest regardless. After several messages back and forth, the Sun God has finally agreed to a meeting, so he literally can’t miss this one.
It takes a few minutes, but his silver diadem gets placed perfectly on his forehead, and various necklaces in phases of the Moon and bracelets with the stars sit lovingly on him. Eijirou also makes sure his hair is gelled and his teeth are sparkling white before he stretches and heads off to his castle’s foyer. Jirou follows next to him, mumbling under her breath as she triple checks the time.
Eijirou’s castle is pretty damn big. He’s got two, weirdly enough, but the second one sits on the dark side of the Moon whenever there’s a New Moon. He goes there to take naps when he doesn’t have to be in the sky and has his staff take breaks when they don’t have to be there.
The Moon King comes hauling ass into his own foyer, and comes face-to-face with a smile that could rival the warmth of the Sun itself. Eijirou’s had the honor of meeting Midoriya Izuku on a few occasions, but it’s not often that he’s able to travel outside of the Sun’s domain to do anything else. The Sun keeps him pretty damn busy.
“Moon King Kirishima!” Midoriya exclaims, immediately dipping into a bow. “It’s an honor to see you again. I’m here to escort you to Kacchan’s castle for the Eclipse meeting. I know it’s super overdue, so I’m hoping you can convince him to create one. Pardon the pun, but he’s starting to burn out. I want to see my best friend take a break for once.”
“I completely understand,” Eijirou reassures him. “Well, hopefully this visit is gonna help change his mind! I don’t want to keep him waiting any longer, so let’s go!” Midoriya nods and gets ready to leave, shimmering with a lovely golden glow that surrounds his hands. Jirou steps in close so she can also get teleported, and they watch as Midoriya murmurs a few words under his breath and steps back so they can get encompassed in the Sun’s aura.
Compared to the Moon’s usual rock and relatively cold stars from a distance, this is warm and feels like bathing in sunlight. Eijirou inhales some solar flares and feels them warm up the entire inside of his body. Jirou also appears to be going through the same thing, eyes going wide. “Beautiful,” she whispers, holding onto Eijirou’s arm for support.
They have a direct line to the Sun’s own palace, which is largely styled after the more modern kingdoms of the Earth below. There seems to be no rest for any of them however; the moment they emerge into the Sun’s foyer, dazzling with all its warm shades, they almost bump directly into several of the Sun’s Court.
“Sorry ‘bout that!” A pink-haired girl gasps, stumbling back with eyes wide. “Oh, fuck, you’re the Moon King! Holy shit you’re here! Our annoying fucking ruler is around here somewhere, but I’m assuming you’re here for the Eclipse?”
“We’re hoping?” Eijirou says, suddenly getting nervous. Next to him, Jirou stands tall and gives her a wry grin. “We’re gonna damn well try; the Moon Court is pretty stubborn.”
“That’s true,” Midoriya tries not to laugh, even as the pink-haired girl snickers. “I have several friends that reside on the Moon and they’re always super cool but stubborn to win arguments against. I think that’s why Kacchan made me his advisor —oh, god, I’m so sorry. I meant Sun God Bakugou. Man, if he heard me say that…”
“Say what, Deku?”
Midoriya gulps but stands his ground, head high. Jirou gives him a sympathetic look.
Eijirou’s an older being that’s held the mantle of Moon God far longer than the current Sun. From what he’s heard, Sun God Bakugou has only held the position for 400 years. He’s newer, flashier, and a deadly combination of brawn, brain, and looks. It’s clearly true judging by the figure that’s marching down the stairs from a golden throne.
He’s… beautiful.
Eijirou’s mouth goes dry at the sharp ruby red eyes that cut across the entire room. The Sun God is all-powerful in his own realm, and his golden jewelry truly enhances his spiky blond hair and those eyes. A golden crown sits atop his head, spikes protruding out in every direction. Even from here, he can feel the heat radiating off him.
“Wow,” Eijirou whispers, causing the Sun God’s attention to snap to him instead of Midoriya. “You’re so bright. An Eclipse with you would be so spectacular! I swear, every mortal will be spellbound to look at you, Bakugou!”
At the mention of his name, Bakugou’s face contorts in rage. “You’re the fucking Moon King? I thought that silver-haired idiot was the Moon, not some cheap Sun knockoff. This is the best you guys have to offer for this meeting? How embarrassing, and you’re bold to use my fucking name like we’re friends.”
“Kacchan!” Midoriya snaps, looking genuinely pissed. “We’re literally here for the Eclipse meeting! You need a break and so does Kirishima!”
“Oh, that’s his name?” Bakugou says rudely, barely giving Eijirou a glance. “What a damn shame. So much wasted potential. This meeting’s going to be over before it even begins.”
Jirou and Ashido gasp, outraged at the turn of events, while Eijirou’s ears burn. He knows Tetsutetsu was probably the better pick for the Moon, but he was the one chosen, not his friend. He may not have met Bakugou before, but he can’t afford to get bossed around by some pissy Sun God. He’s got a lot to prove, apparently.
“My name is Kirishima Eijirou,” he says loudly, standing tall. His silver jewelry clinks as he makes two fists and slams them together. “Regardless of what you think, I’m the Moon King and that is my entire realm. We both need to do this for our health, Bakugou. I keep the Earth safe and alive, just as much as you do, and I know I’m just a simple reflection of your light, but I’m just as important as you.”
Bakugou blinks. Midoriya’s jaw drops, and Jirou and Ashido look on, proud as hell. “Stick it to him, Kiri!” Ashido cheers, and immediately hides behind Midoriya when Bakugou shoots her a look. “What? You’re both super strong deities, but even the Sun and Moon need breaks. C’mon Baku, you can’t do it all by yourself. Go bother Yaomomo in the library, she’s been wanting to chat with you for a while. Or maybe you can set the Sun to autopilot for a day and go hang out in the Moon Kingdom.”
“That was a true Moon King speech,” Midoriya adds, clapping his hands together while Jirou nods. “Although I may have to disagree about merely being a reflection of the Sun; you produce your own rays and you also have your stars to show off, which is quite an honor! I should ask Todoroki if the stars get to retire on the Moon when they eventually turn into a supernova—”
“Well,” Bakugou says, shutting them all up, “what a rousing fucking talk. You want a fucking Eclipse, Moon King? Then get your ass up here and fight me. It’s proof that you’re not chicken and that you’re not just a reflection of me. You want your break? Earn it.”
Eijirou really wants to retaliate that he’s spent a constant 239 years working, but holds his tongue and grins, taking off the diadem and handing it to Jirou. Bakugou takes off his crown and tosses it to Midoriya, who catches it with a yelp. “Are you guys seriously fighting?!”
“I need him to take me seriously,” Eijirou grins, sharp teeth on display. “And it’s been a long time since I’ve been able to fight! This sounds fun. My name is gonna taste like moonshine on your tongue, Bakugou!”
“We’ll see about that, Shitty King.” Bakugou bares his own teeth and lunges as their own advisors back up into each other, holding onto each other and Ashido, who’s already starting to cheer. “LET’S GO KIRI!” She shouts, shooting her fist into the air. “KICK HIS ASS!”
It’s quite a sight in the Sun’s domain. The two deities of the heavens, Sun and Moon, fighting like children in the foyer. Bakugou throws a right hook that Eijirou easily catches before flipping him over his shoulder, slamming him against the ground. Bakugou spits some curse words and leaps to his feet again, eyes narrowing as he looks for an opening. “C’mon Sun God,” Eijirou laughs, feeling the adrenaline course through his veins. “Let’s do this!”
“As you wish, bastard.” Bakugou gives him a grin in return. “I’m gonna wipe my floor with your dust!”
They grapple for several minutes; Eijirou’s hand finds a home on Bakugou’s legs to prevent him from kicking, and Bakugou tries to leglock Eijirou so he can stop moving. They break apart briefly to grapple again, and Eijirou sees his opening.
He lunges for it, determined to put Bakugou in a chokehold and pin his legs down, but he forgets one fatal error; his stupid Moon pants that drag on the floor. Sure enough, he trips, and promptly eats shit against the warm tile.
Fuck.
Everyone in the room groans, and Eijirou wheezes as an arm gets placed on his windpipe. “Fair enough,” he pants out, accepting his defeat with a graceful nod. “That’s manly as hell though, thank you for the fight! I’m not sure what else I can offer for the Eclipse—”
“Shut up,” Bakugou says wearily, getting off him. “If you hadn’t tripped, you would’ve had the upper hand on me. I would’ve lost that fight fair and square. Get up so we can discuss a good time for this shit. First off, where the fuck am I going if I get a so-called ‘break’ for a day?”
Eijirou stares up at the Sun God, jaw dropping. “...What?”
“You heard me,” Bakugou snaps. “You fucking proved yourself, so here we are. You offering your home as a resort while I get to chill out? Or am I lounging in my chambers when my sunlight is covered?”
“Yeah! You can absolutely come to the Moon Kingdom, oh my god.” Eijirou babbles. Midoriya and Jirou beam brightly in the background, high-fiving. “I’d love to show you around! And maybe on a New Moon I can come here to see what this domain has too?”
“Don’t push your luck, Kirishima.” Bakugou says, turning around gruffly. He hesitates before looking back at Eijirou and offering his hand, determination settling in his expression. “So we just…plan when we do it, and get our shit ready?”
“There’s a routine you can do,” Midoriya pipes up, holding a planner in the air. “Usually you set the celestial bodies to autopilot and the two of you meet at a kingdom to manually turn the dial and cover the Sun with the Moon, if you want a Solar Eclipse. Or if you want a Lunar Eclipse, you can use the Earth to cover the Moon! Whichever kingdom you go to will dictate which Eclipse you do.”
“Sounds lame,” Bakugou mutters, but sighs and runs a hand through his ruffled blond hair. “Fine. We can do a damn Solar Eclipse so we’ll go to the Moon Kingdom. Will that suffice, Moon King? You wanna use that rocky body to cover my sunshine?”
“It’ll make your rays just as beautiful as you,” Eijirou winks, and turns to talk about timing with Jirou. He doesn’t notice the vivid red blush rise in Bakugou’s cheeks and how his jaw clenches, looking away to quietly yell. In the far distance, the Sun lets off a solar flare.
The entire Eclipse meeting is merely for semantics. Once Midoriya and Jirou confirm their dates, and make sure that it’s under formal contract, Bakugou meets Eijirou on the Moon two weeks later, looking a bit out of place with his fiery appearance. Eijirou finds him looking around his castle.
“I thought it’d be more dull,” Bakugou admits, rubbing his arms as Eijirou practically drags him to the Moon’s control room. “But this place is full of silver and actual pretty shit. It’s…not the worst I’ve ever seen, so I guess you’re not a terrible ruler or whatever.”
Eijirou beams and Bakugou mutters, “Just as bright as the Sun.”
Both their advisors are in the room waiting for them. They gesture towards the controls and both deities step forward, staring down at the massive control panel that’ll let them create the Eclipse. Contrary to popular belief, there’s a mix of both science and magic that go into their respective domains. Solar and Lunar magic is found in most of the realms and their corresponding citizens, but the Eclipse must be done manually to ensure a proper partnership between the two.
With Bakugou’s pale hand over the Sun lever, keeping it in place, all Eijirou has to do is slowly turn the Moon to cover the Sun to create their bond. Above them, the sky grows darker as all celestial bodies line up with each other, and the Sun briefly vanishes. They wait a few seconds, both deities tense, and then the outline of the Sun’s rays practically glow from the darkened Moon.
Eijirou can feel the exact moment all the tension leaves his body; apparently, so does Bakugou, because he stumbles back with a hand to his chest, eyes wide. Jirou leans over to smack the autopilot button and their two advisors leave, knowing smiles on their faces.
“Is that what the Eclipse feels like?” Bakugou exhales, looking up at Eijirou. “Holy fuck. How long have I felt this drained for? I thought that was fucking normal!”
“You were burning out,” Eijirou shakes his head with a rueful smile. “But this is why we make our bond. We’re gonna keep each other stable and make sure we’re the absolute best. We represent something big, y’know? I can’t have my partner dying out on me!”
“We’re the fucking Sun and Moon, we’re always the best.” Bakugou grins. It’s a genuine smile, one that makes butterflies flutter in Eijirou’s stomach, and his body decides to move on its own. He hurries forward to press a kiss to Bakugou’s warm cheek, pulling back in time to see Bakugou’s eyes go huge and the gorgeous red blush make its appearance again.
“I think we can spend this break getting to know each other more,” Eijirou says, heart pounding. “And then we can maybe go on a date? I’m sure our advisors can hold down the fort for a day! Or if you want to do something else, then we can definitely do that—”
“Shut your damn mouth,” Bakugou threatens weakly, jabbing a finger at him. “No take backs. We’re going on that date and then I’m picking where we’re going for our second one. Capiche, Moon King Kirishima?”
Eijirou stares back at his second half, stars in his eyes, and replies, “Loud and clear, Sun God Bakugou.”
(If the solar flares escalate and the stars twinkle brighter during their first kiss, then that’s no one’s business other than their own.)
