Chapter Text
Cole gripped the ladder, panic flaring in his dark brown eyes. “I think I got it. I got—“
Before he could even think, he was falling, the dark fog quickly coming up to meet him.
“Cole!” He looked up to see Jay, falling after him, tears streaming down his face.
Cole managed to clear the distance between them, grabbing the smaller ninja and hugging him.
If they were going out, they’d go out together.
They broke through the fog, and Cole felt himself lose consciousness as he hit the building. . . .
((***))
Cole blinked open his eyes, his entire body aching. “What?”
He looked down and saw Jay, coughing and choking, unable to breathe in the fog, stone already creeping up his leg.
“No!” Cole scooped him up, holding him close, doing everything he could to block out the fog.
Wait—the fog. Why wasn’t it affecting him? He glanced up, thick black tentacles slowly slithered through the hole in the sunroof, inching closer and closer.
“We need to get out of here.” He stood up, still holding Jay close to his chest.
Cole ran as fast as he could down the stairs to the main level, stumbling a few times as tentacles tried to grab at his legs.
“Almost there.” He whispered to Jay, who was now fully asleep.
As he reached the door, that thought came back to him. *Why doesn’t the fog affect me?. . . .*
