Part II: Obi-Wan

Summary:

She fell.

One spilt second of horror, then Obi-Wan plunged into the Force.

It was thick, and grey, and suffocating, as it had been ever since that calamitous day on Mustaphar. He floundered for a moment, adrift and bewildered. Then the tiniest pinprick of light, and he dove after it.

Work Text:

It was like swimming through concrete. Every muscle and sinew of his body, every shred of his mind and heart strained after the light. He reached for it with everything he had, and he could draw no closer.

Let go.

He didn’t hear the words. He didn’t even feel them, he just knew them deep in his soul. For the briefest of moments he felt a breath of reassurance that he hadn’t felt since -

Obi-Wan let go, and the pinprick blossomed into a radiance that lit up his soul. Just for an instant the shadows were gone, and all was blazing, glorious Light.

The moment passed almost before it had begun, and he opened his eyes in time to see the exact moment when terror turned to shock in Leia’s face. Slowed by the power of the Force that flowed through him and from him, she drifted slowly towards the pavement and was gently laid on the ground.

The moment Leia touched the ground, the power of the Force left him and he was flat and hollow once again. But something had changed.

Because Obi-Wan knew with every fibre of his worn and weary being that he would do anything for this child.

He had found the anchor of his heart, and no matter what the future held he would never truly be adrift again.

Notes:

I hope my fellow Sobiwan shippers will forgive me for calling anyone other than Sabé the anchor of his heart, but Obi-Wan-Leia is just that good!
