he didn't mean to do no harm

Summary:

Both of them are waiting for something, maybe someone.

They talk in the meantime.

Notes:

He did it all to spare me from
The awful things in life that comes
And he cries and cries
I know he knows that he's killing me for mercy

Murder Song

I had this since last year when I got obsessed with Marble Hornets and the Slenderverse in general, and because I'm continuing watching Marble Hornets, well... I need to put this out there. This could be considered a sequel of the first work of this series, but you don't need to read it, just the Ghost!Jessica thing should be enough to get what's going on.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

She is waiting for Dean to come back.

She knows he is going to come back. As a ghost (we can be ghost buddies!) or as himself, she doesn't know the specifics, but Sam promised.

She has been hunting the place for months, crying from time to time remembering how she could do nothing to save Dean, how she couldn't even try, and now she was stuck there because the thing that was grounding her on earth was underground right with Dean.

She can't go anywhere.

(No that she would have a place to go anyway.)

She is testing the range to which she can walk around the... grave, so walking around the woods surrounding the little pile of dirt that is Dean's resting place it is. There is not much to see, and she could consider them creepy if she hasn't seen worse things in those years when she was following Dean and Sam around.

During those weeks, she has heard animal sounds and some cars passing by near the road that is on the other side of the woods, but someone crying is new. The first thing her body wants to do is run away from the sound, someone crying in the woods is never good, it just shouldn't happen, then she remembers how she can't get hurt anymore (unless someone has salt or iron) so, after taking a breath, she decides to investigate.

"Wish me luck," she says to the pile of dirt right next to her before beginning her walk.

It's when she is right between the leafy trees, that she hears footsteps getting closer. She stops, holding her breath, waiting for something, anything.

"-Alex!"

She can hear a girl screaming a name, but that doesn't make her relax not even a little. Still holding her breath, she continues her walk, following where she thinks the voice came from. There were no more sounds (of footsteps or of calling someone's name), only her, walking over the branches (even if she didn't weigh the same considering she was dead-) It was when she saw something.

There is someone sitting against one of the trees, by getting closer she can notice how the person has their head between their knees. She doesn't think twice before getting so much closer. She can hear the erratic breathing and the words of self-reassurance, something that makes her think of Dean, right after entering her apartment so long ago.

She doubts about getting their attention considering her status as a non-living being, but maybe hearing a voice in the middle of the woods is worse than feeling a cold breeze touch your skin, so she extends one of her hands to touch their knee, hoping that could distract them.

She did more than that when she could touch them.

oh

The person bolts at the touch, not really getting away too far when the tree was right behind her(?). She looks distressed, not that the sobs didn't give her that idea, her eyes are red, and her face is a mess with tears and dirt.

"Who-!"

She puts her hands up, trying to act like the most inoffensive person. "H-Hey, easy, I'm not gonna hurt you or something." She kick herself for sounding not secure about what she just said, at least the girl hasn't run away or screamed. But she does look at her suspiciously. "I'm Jess, I swear I'm a friend." She shows her a little smile, still making space between them, not touching her and waiting for any response.

She notices the girl trying to calm her breathing, still looking at her. "I'm... Amy." Her voice sounds rough like it's difficult for her to talk. She nods, and before thinking about what to say next, Amy continues. “D-Do you… Do you know where are we?”

"Oh," that wasn't the first question she thought Amy was gonna ask but wasn't the weirdest. "For what I know," that it wasn't much, she just thought she saw a sign with it, "Illinois."

"Illinois!? I'm so far from home." The last thing was something she knew she wasn't supposed to hear, but she did, and it broke her heart.

"Is there... something I can do to help?" she says, knowing that she can't do much, not when she is dead, but she knows now what it means to be far from home, or at least from the people that you cared about. She looks back at the place where she came from to look at the girl again, that isn't looking at her anymore. "Were you looking for someone?"

Amy nods and then stops to shake her head. "My... boyfriend. Alex, he-" sees her doubt, "he was right behind me but..." like she isn't sure that what she is saying is the thing that really happened.

"We can search for him, how does he look like?"

She hears a little giggle coming from Amy, still sounding sad but was better than nothing. "He just cut his hair, if you could call it that." She smiles at her. "He uses these big glasses, they look good on him."

She knows Amy wants to say more, she sees her open her mouth and closed it a couple of times, looking around like she is waiting for something to happen. The little smile that appeared thinking in this Alex guy turns into a grimace. "I don't think I can't go back home, does it?"

She thinks about what to answer at that, what Sam and Dean would say, but she does remember, and, telling her could be the best option. "Amy, you need to know something." The girl doesn't look at her though. "Maybe this could be... maybe you wouldn't believe me but-"

"I know I'm dead, Jess. I know..." Jess didn't say anything. "I-" She notices how Amy is stopping herself from crying, again. "I remember... We were running, Alex told me to run and he was right behind me. I know he was." Her body was trembling and she wanted to get closer and hug her, but she thinks that was something the girl didn't need right now. "We went to the woods right next to our apartment, he said he had a plan, but he-" Amy chokes on her tears, in the end, resting her back on the tree right behind her, she gets closer, extending her hand hoping Amy can take it, knowing that she is there for her. Amy does take her hand. "He had a gun." She holds her breath, trying to not move her eyes to Amy's hair, the part that is wet with some dark liquid. "I don't know at what moment he took it, but he had it with him."

"Amy-" but the girl was still talking, looking at the floor, holding her hand tightly.

"That thing, the one following us, Alex was running from it when he ended up at my school. He told me. He told me he thought he was safe but-" she sobs "He wasn't."

"What happened, Amy?" She gets an idea of what happened, but maybe Amy has to say it, maybe someone knowing what happened could mean Amy going to the light, finally resting. She is not gonna let her stay like she decided to do.

"He- oh god," she let her hand go to take both of her hands to her mouth. She was sobbing again. "The thing appeared. My head was killing me, he told me to run, I couldn't- He shot at it but it did nothing to it, then he look at me and, he... he didn't mean to." She feels a sour taste in her mouth and frowns because she can't believe her, not with this.

There was a gun implicated, and there was a decision taken, how that Alex person would know that this was better than whatever was hunting him?

Then she thinks of Sam, lovely Sam, that has demon blood on him. She was damned since the moment I say hello to her, that's what Sam believed, she knows this because she heard Sam saying it to Dean, screaming how I was the reason Jess is dead. He wasn't. Sam didn't order the demons to kill her. Sam didn't look at her and say "this girl should die because of me". Sam was innocent, he was a victim. Maybe this Alex person was too, but she can't believe that.

"Even if he didn't, he shouldn't have made that decision." Amy press her lips together, there are still tears falling from Amy's eyes but she isn't saying anything. "But I don't know anything else about him, so who am I to talk?" She walks toward her, making the girl tense and moves away from her, she ignores it to sit on the floor with her back against the tree with a perfect view of the pile of dirt with an improvised cross right over it. We just had back luck, she thinks, knowing how neither of them would rest as they should, not Amy, not Alex (wherever he is), not Sam (having something in his blood), not Dean (that right now he is in Hell-), not even her that decided to stay because- "I guess we just... had bad luck in who we fall in love with."

Notes:

I think Jess and Amy deserved more screen time, maybe that's why I like to write about them, huh.
(and I will ignore the MH comics for... reasons).

Thanks for reading!
