Chapter Text

August 22nd

Dear Mike,

California sucks without you. It's all just empty land with weird stumpy little trees that don't really do anything useful, and its nothing like Hawkins at all. It's really hot too, so all there really is to do is sit inside and watch TV, or unpack. Our neighborhood is really quiet, too--its weird.

I took a break from unpacking to write this, so you know what our new address is. Jonathan went out a little while ago to buy pizza, but El is in the house with me. Her room is right next to mine, which is nice. I think she's writing you a letter right now, too. She misses you a lot, I think.

I miss you, too, and everybody else too. Tell them "hi" for me, will you?

Sincerely,

Will

Will,

I got El's letter like two days after yours, ha. California sounds cool, was the pizza any good? I hear they put like pineapple or some shit on it there haha

September 5th

Dear Mike,

The pizza was really good, actually! Jonathan became friends with the delivery guy, too, so now we get free pizza sometimes. The do put pineapple on pizza here, you're right. I couldn't tell you if it's any good because I haven't tried it yet, but Jonathan's friend Argyle (the delivery guy) swears by it.

It's funny that you got El's letter right after mine, since I saw her put it to post and everything. School starts tomorrow, so I guess I've got that to look forward to. It won't be the same without you, though. Does school start tomorrow in Hawkins, too? I remember that it did last year, but I don't know if things will have changed already there. I really wish I was there with you guys instead of here, miles away...

At least we're still starting high school together, even if I'm not physically there with you like I want to be.

Sincerely,

Will

Will,

Cool about the pizza thing, free is always nice. School started and it sucks, you know the drill. By the way, I don't have enough money for two envelopes, so I put El's letter in the same one as yours, so make sure you give that to her

From Mike

September 16th

Dear Mike,

You're right, school sucks. I mean, it's kind of alright, but no one really talks to me here. It's better than the alternative, but it still gets kind of lonely sometimes. At least I have you, though, and the rest of the party. I sent Dustin and Lucas a letter each, but they haven't responded yet. I think they might just be busy, or the letters got lost in the mail or something. Would you tell them to keep an eye out, just in case?

High school really isn't like the movies, for me at least. How is it over in Hawkins? Your last letter wasn't very detailed, which is fine, y'know, I just wonder how you're doing. Maybe we can talk on the phone sometime? We finally unpacked it and set it up, but my mom is nearly always on it because of her new job. Still, I bet we can find a day when she doesn't really need it.

Sincerely,

Will
