He didn't remember the last time he celebrated his birthday it was back when he was still home, where the walls are cold yet the warmth of the candle still lingers.
Since he moved he never really bothered celebrating it himself. It would be strange, he thinks, to buy yourself a birthday cake.
He looks at the empty house and smiles, reassuring himself that this was what he wanted.
That is until he was invited over to OTV.
"Sykkuno!" The lights were already off, when it suddenly flickered open, he cannot see anything. By the time his eyes adjusted, his ears lagged behind and he realised, they were singing.
"Oh um... thanks guys!"
"Toast bought you a present!"
"Oh... he shouldn't have-"
But the present was already shoved in his face.
"Here..." Toast mutters without even looking at him and hides behind michael which is comical given michael is shorter than him.
Sykkuno looks at the present in surprise and smiles," can I open it?"
"Whatever..." Toast replies. Lily and Scarra teases Toast for being so shy.
Sykkuno tears open the present and looks at it with surprise. It's a shirt... it wasn't until he wore the shirt that he realised he had seen the shirt before... when they were shopping, he had been looking to buy one but didn't get it in the end because it was too expensive.
He hides his mouth behind the shirt, he was so sure that Toast wasn't really paying attention when they went out but it seems that not only in among us does nothing escapes his eye.
He didn't expect so much love from everyone, he decided that he should get gifts for everyone too. What he didn't expect however was his birthday next year to be even more special.
He had planned to celebrate it with his fans but a phone call at 12am led him to have other plans... and last minute ones.
He quickly changed into his outing clothes and rushed downstairs.
"Okay let's gooooo.... um," Sykkuno stood there awkwardly.
"Where is everyone?" He asks.
He expected everyone from otv to be there.
"It's just me you and yvonne, the rest couldn't make it so we'll have to make the best of it, now come on, we're late," Toast grumbles as Yvonne waves at them from in the distance.
Sykkuno chuckles sheepishly, well at least there won't be too much noise... well he may have spoke too soon when Yvonne and Toast start bickering and debating about the movie even after they went out for a midnight celebration at the nearest convenience store.
"Here..." Toast replies and looks away, shy, Yvonne grinning like an idiot as she also passes him her present.
"Ah... there's really no need to... but thanks..."
"Since we're gifting each other every year, it doesn't matter, so long as you're happy it's fine..." his words are sweet but tone slightly cold.
Yvonne pokes at him," can't you let some of your excitement seep through that tone of yours? I know you're happy for him you huge softie!"
Toast and Yvonne start bickering again while Sykkuno open the little present Toast gave him.
"Woah no way... that's a tiffany ring... is that a marriage proposal?" Yvonne wiggles her eyebrows, teasing him.
"Yeah and our honeymoon is going to Japan," Toast replies sarcastically.
"Actually... I think that's not a bad idea..."
Sykkuno glances at them, Yvonne was surprised while Toast was still processing.
"Haha... I'm kidding, but Japan sounds fun!"
Toast smiles, a soft look one rarely sees." I don't mind if you want us to go on a date to Japan, if we bring Yvonne she's going to buy only food."
"Hey! Japanese food is awesome alright?!"
Sykkuno chuckles and while this birthday wasn't he grandest, it was intimate, it was nicer than not celebrating at all. He was glad that he can count on his friends and thousands of fans to celebrate it with him.
For once he was not lonely.
"Sykkuno... we have been dating for 2 years now... will you marry me?"
Sykkuno eyes bulge and looks at Toast.
"What?!"
"I'm joking, happy birthday," Toast abruptly tosses him his birthday present.
"Oh um... thanks...?" Sykkuno chuckles, good ol toast, always joking around to cover his embarrassment and shyness, he hopes he never change... it never fails to be endearing.
Sykkuno opens his present to reveal something he never expect Toast to gift him... c-
"Do you like it?" Toast asks.
"Yes... "
It was a custom keyboard, that must have been so expensive. Sykkuno's eyes water a little and he looks at Toast.
"Don't look at me like that... you gave me a watch last time, so it's only fair I gave you something equal in return..."
That is true, they had always been balancing out. But there is something that never needed any return.
"Well I love it, shall we play some party games? Offline?"
"Offline?!" Lily calls from the couch.
Toast smiles," sure, anytime."
It was the time spent playing games together, Sykkuno's only wish for the past three years had always been to stay like this forever.
