Summary
He’s running out of air. His lungs are burning as he kicks his legs and claws at the water desperately, swimming deeper and deeper.
Is this how he dies? At the bottom of a lake, suspected of murder, disliked by most? He wouldn’t be surprised, he probably doesn’t deserve any better.
Why did he jump in after Robin in the first place? He’d leaped off the metaphorical bridge, so to speak, and dived in headfirst after his friends -
Except, they’re not really his friends, are they? They’re all just kind of... stuck together.
He’s about to give up, to turn and swim back up to the boat, because really - it’s the sensible thing to do. Maybe there’s still time to find a car and fucking book it to Mexico. He can start a new life with a new name, and (as a bonus) he’s heard the drug business is really good over there.
But there’s a niggling thought at the back of his mind that makes him keep going - the same voice that urged him to jump into the water in the first place.
