Work Text:

O. The stars or space

(Send me a character and a letter and I’ll write a short fic!)

“Do you think the stars have feelings?”

Logan had been quite content with the silence before Patton spoke, not that he wasn’t pleased to hear his voice. The words pulled him from the trance he had been fixed in with his eyes glued to the stars above. If he laid his head back just right, Logan could see how the sky molded into a dome, and how the trees pointed inwards to frame it.

“Of course not.” He replied casually. What an interesting thing to ask. Surely, Patton was bright enough to realize that inanimate objects did not have feelings, though Logan would make an exception to this logic for the stuffed animals Patton so dearly cared for.

Patton hummed, and Logan could hear the grin in his voice, “Well, I like to think they do,” Patton shifted to mirror Logan’s position, hands resting on his belly, “They’ve got stories about them, right?”

Logan nodded, “Myths, yes, as seen through the constellations.”

“Well, if they hold stories and all that, they’ve gotta have emotions.” Logan didn’t understand, so Patton continued, “See Andromeda?” He pointed to the constellation Logan had taught him so long ago, “She had stories made about her. She’s up there in the stars. The stars hold her story, and it’s full of emotion, so they must hold some, too.”

That’s what Logan liked about Patton. While he may not be the brightest or the most logical thinker, he always found a way to challenge Logan’s worldview with philosophical or silly questions that led to deeper understanding and debate.

Yes, logically Logan knew that the stars were burning balls of highly flammable gasses. However…

“I suppose if human beings can be made up of stardust, then then the stars could stand to be a little bit human, too.”

Patton’s grin shone like the sun.
