Summary: Daisuke enjoys spending all kinds of time with Ken. A tiny tale of fluff that begins a story that might never end.

Daisuke held the umbrella over Ken. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to, mostly because of something he hated to admit – he liked the view of Ken all soaking wet. He didn’t ever want to say that out loud to Ken, but seeing the other’s hair plastered against his head, and knowing they’d have to end up somewhere warm and dry together?

Oh, yeah, he lived for that! And he didn’t dare open his mouth on the subject near any of his friends, let alone Ken himself.

So for now, he just held the umbrella and the two of them trudged through the soaked streets on the way to the subway.

“I’m sorry,” Ken murmured. “I shouldn’t have asked you over when we both knew the weather was going to turn like this.” He squinted up at the gray clouds overhead, the chilly early spring rain falling in an endless sheaf. “Though I didn’t think it would be this bad.”

Daisuke shook his head. “Hey, I wanted to come over!” He liked spending time with Ken. It was a lot more fun than listening to Jun babble about whoever her latest crush was or whatever her partner was up to. He’d never thought Jun also ending up with a partner would be so boring.

Okay, he had to admit waiting to see what they blew up next was pretty fun. But he’d never tell her that.

For now, he focused on watching the rain as it rolled down Ken’s neck, and trying to keep his attention above that. He wasn’t doing a really good job of it, but he tried nevertheless.

Ken wasn't looking at him, so Daisuke guessed he hadn't noticed anything.  That was good.  Daisuke didn't get to experience this nearly as much as he wanted to.  Ken's attention seemed focused more on making sure he didn’t step into any puddles, and guiding Daisuke along so he didn’t either.

That was also fine by Daisuke. Any time he spent around Ken left him feeling as if his entire body hummed with joy and a kind of pleasure he’d never experienced with anyone else before.

Do I like him? Like like him? Daisuke hadn’t thought about that before. He’d considered people before – Hikari had been one of them, and for a couple of weeks he’d thought about Miyako and there were other girls and other guys. If Taichi hadn’t had Yamato, and the two been so clearly into each other, he would’ve probably thought more about his predecessor.

But Ken was always there, as he’d been since they’d first met all those years ago. Granted, that hadn’t been the best meeting, but Daisuke freely admitted it had been an impressive one! Then and now, Ken knew how to make an impression, and it was one that Daisuke hadn’t ever forgotten.

“Hey,” he said as they got close to the station. Ken turned towards him, those gentle violet eyes curious and thoughtful as always. “You wanna come home with me? We’ve got some of those cakes you like. Mom made them special.” He wasn’t lying. She’d even asked him to see if Ken would like them. Which she already knew he did. Sometimes he suspected his mom of being something of a matchmaker.

Ken’s eyes lit up at the mention of the cakes. “Are you sure I wouldn’t be a bother?”

“You don’t ever bother me!” Daisuke promised, meaning it with all of his heart. “Besides, I don’t want you to go back home all wet.”

He kept the umbrella over them, but that didn’t stop the rain from still sneaking in. It rolled a little down his own neck, and Ken’s as well. The umbrella just kept it from soaking the both of them to the point of misery.

Ken offered a tiny smile. “It’s not that bad.”

“Doesn’t matter.” Daisuke waved with his free hand. “Come on. Let’s go!”

He didn’t give Ken any more time to argue the matter, but headed right for the subway. Ken could have pulled away from him – he was still stronger and faster than Daisuke, even without the Spore’s effects – but he didn’t. He just settled next to Daisuke and ran one hand through his hair, trying to get rid of the water.

Daisuke still tried not to look and didn’t have much more luck at it. His heart just melted at the sight of Ken like that.

Yeah. I like like him. He wasn’t even sure if that was the right way to think about it but the other way – he didn’t know if he was ready for that. He wasn’t sure if he ever would be, but he savored the moment now with all of his heart.

Just like he savored the sight of rain rolling down Ken’s throat and the way his eyes lit up when they shared the cakes, and everything else he could think of in the time that they spent with one another. Whether it went anywhere or not, Daisuke knew Ken would always have his love.

The End

Notes: So, will Daisuke ever confess? Let’s find out by the end of the week!
