Chapter Text
Tobin, Kelley and Ashlyn walked down the main hallway of the CQ. Their first day had been 'interesting.' The new girl 'Christen' had already made quite an impact on the trio since her arrival yesterday. And so, they were back again for another day of school.
"The classic tragedy of my life." Ashlyn said while walking down the hallway. "No girl wants to go with me to the homecoming dance."
"The classic tragedy of your life? Don't you think you are exaggerating a bit?" Tobin asked her. "I mean, there is a dance every school year and it's only been 2 days."
"And there is still another one to go, and another, and another until the mathematical infinity!" Ashlyn said panicking.
"I'm sure, Ash." Tobin patted Ashlyn's back to calm her down. "But I'm not worried because of that. I already have a date. And what a date? The prettiest girl in school."
"Aw, Tobin." Alex appeared next to Tobin putting her hands on Tobin's shoulder. She started caressing Tobin's jawline bringing her closer. "I love it when you call me that way, babe."
Tobin put an awkward smile while grabbing Alex's hand and dragging it away from her.
"I think Tobin said 'the prettiest girl' not the most unbearable, untruthful, and brainless girl." Ashlyn remarked.
Alex just rolled her eyes and turned to Tobin. "Toby, it is a really bad image for someone as popular as yourself to be hanging out with this tadpole face."
"What is a tadpole Alex?" Ali asked appearing behind her cousin.
"Ali, obviously, I don't know. But it sounds terrible." Alex mentioned.
"Hey, I know." Kelley said enthusiastically. "Never mind, I forgot."
Kelley seemed to be deep in thought.
"It came back!" Kelley mentioned. "Wait, it left again. But it gave me a new thought. Ashlyn, why don't you go to the homecoming dance with Ali?"
Both Ashlyn and Ali looked at each other and began to slowly smile. Only to be interrupted by Alex blocking Ashlyn's view of Ali.
"I mean, welcome to the cruel reality. How dare you think that my cousin is going to go to the homecoming dance with that." Alex said with a disgusted face. "That is going to happen the day where chocolates start falling from the sky. Right Ali?"
"Right Alex." Ali responded with a sad face and tone.
"And you know what? We're leaving. Being here makes my cool reputation drop." Alex started walking passed the trio not before blowing a kiss Tobin's way. Alex stopped in mid walk. "I said we are leaving Ali."
Alex turned around and grabbed Ali by her wrist. Ali, being dragged away by Alex, turned her head to look at Ashlyn one last time and began to wave.
Ashlyn waved back with a sad face. She thought about what Alex had said and she didn't like it one bit. "That girl is heavier than the sum of all the atomic weights in the periodic table."
"The periodic table isn't the boyfriend of the newspaper?" Kelley asked.
Tobin and Ashlyn gave Kelley confused faces.
"Kelley, are you sure that you passed last school year?" Tobin asked her.
Lindsey and Christen arrived shortly after.
"What are you guys up to? Where you guys listening the dumb pair of cheerleaders say nonsense again?" Lindsey asked the trio.
"Wow! You are a mindreader Lindsey." Kelley looked amazed. "Let's see... what number am I thinking right now?"
"Number four." Lindsey responded easily.
"Wow! How do you do it?" Kelley asked.
"First, because it is what you get in all the exams. Second, because it is the number to which you can count." Lindsey then pointed towards Kelley's hand. "And third, because it's the fingers that you're counting!"
Kelley looked to her hand and noticed that indeed, she had four fingers out. She began to touch the top of her hair, like she did when she did something stupid.
"Oh, Kelley. You will never change." Christen said in a sweet voice. "But what were you guys talking about?"
Tobin was the first to respond with a laugh. "We were talking about who wants to be Ashlyn's date at the homecoming dance."
"Huh? Kelley, you already know who you are going to the dance with?" Asked Christen.
"Yes." Kelley said proudly. "I already have a date."
"No way. Who was the brave one?" Asked Tobin laughing thinking this was a joke.
"Me." Lindsey muttered raising her hand slowly.
"You?!" Tobin's shock couldn't have been bigger. Everyone was left in shock by Lindsey's answer, except for Kelley who simply smiled.
"Really?" Christen asked.
"It's because Kelley was very insistent." Lindsey answered.
"Yes, very insistent."
Flashback
Lindsey was sitting at a table in the cafeteria while playing some video games in her Nintendo. Kelley approached her and sat down with her.
"Hey, Lindsey. Want to be my partner for the homecoming dance?" Kelley asked simply with a smile.
"Um, no." Lindsey answered.
"Come on, pretty please? I beg you, I beg you, I beg you." Kelley pleaded with her hands like a prayer.
"I already told you no." Lindsey said.
"I beg you, I beg you, I beg you." Kelley began following Lindsey outside of the cafeteria and into the main hallway where Tyler was bullying a 6th grader trying to make him fit into a locker. Kelley said the same thing over and over again.
"I already said gave you my answer. No." Lindsey told as Kelley continued repeating the same thing over and over again.
"I beg you, I beg you, I beg you."
Lindsey was starting to get annoyed at this point. Once they were in class, Kelley still managed to find a way to tell her the same thing. She had drawn herself saying 'I beg you, I beg you, I beg you' in thought bubbles. Lindsey mouthed 'no' to Kelley next to her. It was really unfortunate that they sat next to each other.
Kelley then got a new idea, she took her phone out and started texting Lindsey the same thing. Lindsey opened her phone and rolled her eyes as she put her head on the desk. She looked up and shook her head. Lindsey though that once she had basketball practice, Kelley would leave her alone. Wrong. Before she even managed to open her changing room locker, Kelley appeared out of nowhere under disguise so Linsey wouldn't recognize her at first. She was wearing a man's wig and clothes.
"I beg you, I beg you-"
"Okay! Fine, I'll go to the stupid dance with you." Lindsey yelled putting her hands out to make Kelley stop talking. " Just please let me change in peace."
"Yes, don't worry. I promise not to embarrass you." Kelley said happy with herself. Lindsey took her uniform out of her locker and went to the bathroom.
"A man in the women's locker room!!!" Ali shouted when she spotted a man, who was actually just Kelley under disguise.
"Girls, get him!" Alex yelled pointing at Kelley. Alex's whole cheerleading team went all attack mode with their pompoms towards Kelley.
"Ahhh!" Kelley crouched down.
End of Flashback
"Tobin, did you know that being very insistent, could be very painful?" Kelley asked as she rubbed her head remembering what happened. The loudspeaker suddenly turned on.
"Dearest students. I welcome you and remind you that this school is a temple of knowledge. And in this temple of knowledge, I contemplate a knowledge that you have to do with what you have to know, to be able to continue in this temple of knowledge." The principal said though the loud speaker. "Meaning, all of you study!"
Everyone thought the principal was crazy.
"Ah, and before I forget." The principal sang. "Kelley O'Hara, please report yourself to the principal's office. Kelley O'Hara. I love doing that."
Everyone in the group looked to Kelley with confusion even Kelley.
"Kelley O'Hara? Who could that guy be?" Kelley asked.
"That guy is a kind of slow and stupid student who goes in our grade and her name is Kelley." Tobin said slowly as if to make Kelley take a hint.
"They call him the same as me." Kelley said excitedly. "I have a twin."
The group rolled their eyes.
"It's not your twin. It's namesake." Ashlyn responded.
"You don't even know them and you are already calling them names?" Kelley replied. They rolled their eyes again.
"Agh, it's you Kelley." Lindsey said pointing at Kelley. "That's your name. Honestly, you aren't dumber because you don't propose yourself."
"I knew that. I knew all along that the principal wanted to see me." Kelley said waving her off. Then she came to the realization and she started panicking with wide eyes. "Wait, the principal wants to see me? What did I do? What did I do? Wait, agh, I know. He found out what happened to his trophy."
Flashback
"Young Kelley O'Hara. I ask you to pay more attention on what you do." The principal said with his back turned. Kelley appeared with black powder all over her face. "That explosion in the chemistry lab could have caused a lot of damage to you and your classmates."
Kelley didn't seem to be paying attention as she was distracted looking at a certain trophy on the principal's desk. She went to grab it, only to separate itself into smaller pieces. She tried to fix it as the principal continued his speech.
"So, I ask you, for love of god, to be more careful." The principal stated oblivious to what was happening behind his back. "We agree?"
"Yes, sir." Kelley said as she finished piecing the pieces back together. However, in the wrong order.
"You can now leave, Ms. O'Hara."
End of Flashback
"Kelley, stop worrying. It doesn't need to be bad for you to get called down." Ashlyn said putting her hand on Kelley's shoulder. "I'm sure it's something good."
"You think?" Kelley asked.
"Of course. Look, if you think good things are going to happen, good things are going to happen." Ashlyn answered. "Or haven't you heard of motivational quantum metaphysics?"
"Yes. Good things. I am going to think that the principal never called me." Kelley declared as everyone gave unimpressed looks.
"Kelley O'Hara. I am waiting for you!" The principal said through the loudspeaker.
"He is gonna bury me alive." Kelley uttered. She took her backpack and gave it to Ashlyn. "Here. I leave you all my things under your name."
Kelley left whispering 'good things' as she walked towards the principal's office.
