Chapter Text
The CQ has never been normal. It's not your typical school, and things do get crazy sometimes. The hallways are roamed by students as two tomboys walk in through the front doors.
"I hate the first day of school." Lindsey Horan was wearing her typical turned around cap and baggy clothes as she and her sister walked in. She carried her backpack along with her skateboard and video game console. She obviously wasn't in a good mood. "It makes me even more depressed than when we have to visit Aunt Olivia during the holidays."
"Come on, Linds. Reduce two notches to your bitterness." Tobin was in her classic red and white Varsity jacket. Being the most popular person in the school and captain of the soccer team, she had to uphold her image. "It's not so bad. Didn't you miss the respect there is in this institution?"
"Hi, Tobin." Tyler walks in bullying a 6th grader and laughing sinisterly as the poor kid struggled to get free from his grasp. The school bully. Everyone has one. Tyler grew a reputation of people fearing him with his big black leather jacket and intimidating looks. Wearing his dark clothes and signature chained necklace. He takes the kid to the lockers nearby.
"See, that's what I'm talking about as the first day of school. We have returned to the abuses of Tyler mistreating the smaller and younger students for failing the school year 3 times in a row." Said Lindsey. She turned her head and sighted.
"You need to calm down, sis. Don't get so worked up about it." Tobin tried to calm her sister down as she didn't want to make a scene in the middle of the hallway.
"Sorry, some people just disgust me." Lindsey turned her head and saw two cheerleaders walk in through the front doors. "And speaking of the devil."
Alex Morgan, the daughter of the principal, is your typical snob girl who thinks she is better than everyone. Walking around like she owned the place. Perhaps, not surprisingly, she is most disliked girl at school. Along side her, Ali Krieger was carrying for what it looked as 5 bags. The girl couldn't walk straight with so much weight, but she still managed to smile and wave. She was the slave of Alex Morgan, and interestingly enough, she was also her cousin.
"Tobin!" Alex exclaimed. She came rushing to her side and tried to touch Tobin's face with her hand, but was stopped as Tobin pulled back and awkwardly smiled. "This is not a dream. It's really me. Alex Morgan."
"Hi, Alex. How are you?" Tobin didn't really want to know, much less have a conversation with Alex, but it felt like the polite thing to do.
"Oh, Tobin. Even the question is obvious." Alex gestured to herself as Ali Krieger put her stuff on the ground. "I'm beautiful, and I lost half a kilogram of weight over the break."
"And how did you do it? Did they stripped your brains out?" Lindsey faked a sweet voice and showed a fake smile to Alex.
Alex, clearly insulted, turned to Ali Krieger. "Ali, I think something stinks here, don't you think?"
Ali saw the glare Alex was giving her and nodded. "Yeah."
"Ali! Didn't I tell you already not to make fun of lower-class peasants." Alex faked an innocent tone. She snapped her fingers and held her palm out. Ali opened one of the bags and gave Alex her purse. Alex took Lindsey's cap and put coins in it one by one as if they were alms. "Here, good citizen. Buy yourself some clean clothes in the market."
Lindsey didn't seem bothered by it. "Okay. If this game entertains your child-like brain. I'm keeping them."
Lindsey returned to Tobin's side and began counting the quarters Alex had put in her cap. "Look Tobin, we have enough cash to play two rounds in the arcade after school."
"Alex, you gave her our lunch money." Ali protested as Alex walked back to Lindsey.
"Arcade Lindsey? Please, you are so feminine as a judo fighter." Alex said clearly trying to not look defeated.
"What's judo Alex?" Asked Ali.
"I don't know, but it sounds bad, that's why I said it." Whispered Alex not so quietly.
"Tobin, I cannot see how you can be friends with this. I truly believe that the last neuron in their brain already died." Lindsey said to her sister as she pointed at both Alex and Ali. Lindsey and Tobin laughed as Alex gave Lindsey a dirty look. Just then, the loud speaker of the school was turned on.
"The school CQ, welcomes back to the students for another year of learning and caring. Good evening, I'm your adored principal Michael Morgan. I hope that this year, is going to be a year full of achievements for everyone." The Principal clears his throat as his stomach grumbled. "Can the lunch lady also please hurry put with the sausages I ordered half an hour ago? My guts are starting to grumble."
Kelley O'Hara was walking in a different hallway with her Hawaiian shirt and grey shorts. She bumps into one of her best friends, Ashlyn Harris. She was wearing her typical nerdy glasses and sweater.
"Kelley!"
"Ashlyn!"
They embraced each other and squeezed each other tight until they let go.
"Oh my god, how are you? How was your trip to Hawaii over the summer?" Ashlyn asked.
"I'm good. Everything was perfect. I got this amazing tan, and the waves were amazing."
"Hey, we forgot to do our handshake." Ashley and Kelley fist-bumped and dabbed each other like they had done a thousand times. The speaker turned on again.
"An important message. To avoid another incident like last year's, we have installed smoke detectors all around the school."
Ashlyn turned towards her best friend recoiling last year's event.
"Hey! Who knew that a small Bengal light could burn an entire library? They should have put that in the box somewhere." Kelley said defending herself as she too remembered what happened.
Ashlyn looked unamused at Kelley's excuse.
"As you know, our school is a temple for higher learning and we make sure to teach students hard work and discipline. And now, our school anthem." The principal played it and started singing it way off tune.
Ashlyn and Kelley looked at each other with worried eyes and covered their ears as they began walking down the hallway. They soon caught up with Tobin and Lindsey who were still joined by Alex and Ali. Both Tobin and Lindsey were too covering their ears.
"God, the principal sings far worst than someone with nasal sickness." Tobin said still trying her hardest to cover her ears.
"Yes, we should demand him for fifth degree of noise pollution." Ashlyn stated.
Everyone looked at Ashlyn with confusion in their face.
"What?" Tobin asked, but Alex turned her face back to her.
"Look, Tobin. You can be a total hot-shot. But that doesn't mean you get to make fun of the principal's voice."
"Casually he's your dad" Ashlyn said, pointing at Alex and turning to Ali with a smile and a relaxed voice, "and your uncle."
Ali blushed and looked away. Ashlyn kept smiling.
"Sorry, girls. It was just a comment, it wasn't my intention to offend you." Tobin tried to persuade them flashing both of them one of her best smiles. "But if you don't believe what I said, ask anyone else."
Tobin pointed all around them showing that the students were trying their best to avoid hearing the principal's singing too.
"It's because none of you understand anything. It is actually modern to sing this way. Right Ali?" Alex tried to explain and she nudged Ali to back her up. Alex turned around to find her cousin and Ashlyn still smiling and giving small glances at each other. "Ali!"
Ali snapped out of it and turned her attention to Alex. "What? What happened? I'm sorry. Did you need anything Alex?"
Alex huffed as she turned her attention back to Tobin. "Actually in Europe, it is called 'Hummingbird singing in Spring.'"
Kelley chimed in and added, "But here in America it's called 'the howling cow giving birth to a lime.'" She then laughed at her own joke.
That was the last straw for Alex and she turned around signaling Ali to carry her bags. She didn't even wait for Ali as she headed towards the stairs. Ali gave one last wave and sheepishly smiled to Ashlyn and left them be. Lindsey headed out as well, as she didn't want to be late for class.
Just then, a beautiful black haired green-eyed girl passed by Tobin, Kelley and Ashlyn. She was wearing denim pants and a jacket with a white shirt underneath. She smiled at them. Their jaws dropped. For Tobin, it was like she was this new light and watched as the air-conditioner seemed to fan her hair as she passed by. Tobin’s eyes seemed to change into heart-eyes.
"Who is she?" Tobin sighted. The three of them still not taking her eyes off her.
"I don't know." Kelley responded.
"Must be new. We need to meet her." Ashley proposed to the group only to find out that Tobin and Kelley already left after the new girl. "Hey! Wait for me."
Behind the lockers appeared Alex and Ali. Alex had a murderous look on her face.
"Did you see that Ali?" Alex said with disgust.
"Yeah, she's really pretty." Danni said with a smile and it disappeared when she saw the look in Alex's face.
"Ali, focus. That girl wants to steal my Tobin."
"Oh, and what are you going to do?"
"We are going to make sure she wants nothing to do with Tobin. At all cost." Alex said devilishly as she followed them.
